  There is a lot of churning going on in those numbers. A family head is almost guaranteed four hours and four RV for study time. Also, it is not unheard of for pioneers to also study with the children within the congregation - even if the kid is counted as part of the family study.

  There is also the churning of magazine placements. I remember way back when that I was able to count a subscription placement when I renewed the subscription for my unbaptized children. Since the subscriptions are no longer in existence I am sure that family heads count as placements four magazines a month for each of their unbaptized children

  Ray Franz and 1975

  did ray franz believe that end would come in 1975...i am asking that because my jw friend said, that he listened to his talk few years before 1975 and that ray was very clear about 1975...my jw friend is blaming ray and those who were d/f in 1980 for 1975 fiasco and because they were d/f, he doesnt see any problem with 1975...thanx for your comments

  I remember a special talk give by Ray Franz in I don’t concur with the beginning of this thread that Ray was responsible for the “75” fiasco. As we all can attest, in our transition away from the org there is a period of time where we don’t believe, but our words are on auto pilot. I remember giving several public talks after I had come to the realization that I needed to get out of the org. Although I no longer believed, I stayed close to the outline.

  You did it again! Congratulations on another excellent commentary. I may have to attend the meeting this Sunday. I will have a printed copy of your commentary in my un-underlined “tower.” Like you, I have observed:

  The WTS once used as much as two paragraphs to support information. Then it was a footnote directing you to another WTS publication which discusses the point in more detail. Now it is just a flat statement challenging you to disagree with them the only channel between God and humans.

  The WT no longer even attempts to provide support for their statements. This is all a part of the “dumbing down” of the flock.

  What's The Silliest Rule That You've Seen In The Organization Or Cong.???

  one congregation in the 70's allowed only white shirts to be worn on the platform.

  if an out of town speaker didn't know the "rule", it was ok. the brothers kept a variety of white shirts in different sizes in case that happened.

  We had an elder that made the rule that you could not sit in the last three rows of the kh unless you had children under 3 y.o.

  To enforce this policy they would rope off the back rows and only allow families with small children to take a seat.

  They also had a rule that you could not sit in the library during the meeting. There was an old man who would only come to the meetings if he could sit in the library. He was told not to sit in the library...so he quit coming.

  within a few weeks i leased a condo on the banks of the willamette river just out side the city of portland.

  as she got into her car she looked at me funny again, laughed and just shook her head.. .

  i told him that if i said i was sorry, i knew that is what they wanted to hear but it was not the truth.

  The PO and CO visit me....new light!!??

  i am just going to have to start keeping my front door closed.

  today, i had it open, and there was no way to pretend i wasn't home when the two 'brothers' rang my door bell.

  actually, they had been by last saturday, too, but the door was closed that day, and i didn't answer it.

  The mid-to-late 80s was the start of when I began to realize the insanity of my beliefs. The wt & awake were proclaiming that the Soviet Union was the king of the north. While at the same time Reagan was giving speeches proclaiming the end of communism. I distinctly remember thinking when Reagan gave his famous "Tear Down these Walls" speech: "why is this man saying these things when we know that the Soviet Union is the all powerful king of the north."

  This time was very pivotal in my transition out of the organization because the events gave a very clear example of the society being absolutely wrong. So, for the CO to say that Jehovah put it in their minds to tear down the wall leads me to the question: Why wasn't this information communicated to the society?

  Doesn't this prove that Ronald Reagan was acting under divine inspiration when he gave his famous challenge to the Russian leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, at the Berlin Wall in 1987 to "Tear Down These Walls"?

  Dramas

  one of the funniest things i will ever remember as a jw are the "big dramas" at the assemblys.

  it was amazing how everyone would sit through the torture of the infinate talks and "skits" with an incredibly bored look on their faces, yet when the drama got closer, the apathetic faces piped up, became animated, excited.

  it was, as far as i could see the "best of the worst" piece of the programme, and by god, even though i spent almost the entire time at the assemblies outside feeding ducks, i was always in one of the front rows for the drama.

  I remember a few dramas from prior years to be somewhat entertaining. Recently however, they have been de-emphasizing the dramas. If I remember correctly, there was only one short drama last year. The drama last year was disjointed. I had a very difficult time trying to follow the drama and could not really figure out what point they were trying to make.

  Once you begin saying "NO" to potential victimizers, they actually (in many cases) will begin to respect you because you have begun to respect yourself. Then they will move on to an easier target.

  Excellent point Gopher! I met with an elder several weeks ago and he used numerous techniques to (1) get me to start going to meetings again, (2) study with him and (3) go on a bible study with him. Without a lot of explanation I responded, "NO. I have set my boundaries and will not extend my participation beyond what it is now." There is not much that he could say after my response. He left and I have not seen him since.
