Really stupid comment from an Elder..

so during the serve-us meeting last night an elder says something really dumb..as usual.

it was the km part about doing better in field serve-us.

they are discussing how to reach people, and how to be nice, blah, blah.. the eldub says, "we want to be kind to our neighbors, and talk to them and take an interest.

That is just creepy. And to think that I heard that message for 35 years before opening my eyes. Is it any wonder I have few friends.

Meeting Not Cancelled but Postponed

there's a big snowstorm on the east coast and i found out that the school and service meeting was not cancelled but postponed to tomorrow.

why do they think it's so important to have it so they ruin another evening after shoveling snow?

Had a strange moment last night.

in my line of work i have to deal with a lot of different people each day in a teaching capacity.

sometimes, with adults that i teach, we have some informal discussions not directly related to the subject being taught, but still important as far as developing a friendly relationship in the classroom.

anyway, yesterday i noticed that in one class the students had been given a little religious calendar in a diary form, quite a popular thing for people to do in the country i live in.

thedog, Interesting post and great comments. When I was "in" I was embarassed of my beliefs and did everything possible to avoid a conversation. Now that I am out, I am very open with my past. I am a professesor and more that once I talked openly about my past when pressed by students.

Great post humbled, I know the exact point when I had the same epiphany. My body violently rejected my past and I had the same reaction as if I was in withdraw from a powerful drug.

Qualifications for Elders & MS

we all know that elders and ministerials are appointed by holy spirit.

i was in the organization for about 25 years and was in 4 different congregations over the years.. in one congregration there was a sister in her mid-50's with an unbelieving husband.

he did not attend meetings.

I also can confirm the political nature of recommendations. Also, the recommendations were, in some cases racially motivated.

What art the qualifications for elder/M.S.

I think we have all forgotten the most important qualification. Those with internal sexual organs need not apply. You need your procreative powers to reside outside your body. In other words - no penis - no go as an elder or MS.

I say this from experience. I can remember sitting through painful elders' meetings and thinking that the ONLY reason some of these idiots were here is because they have a penis. I might add, this was not confirmed, atleast by me.

The last thing I want to be is "normal." I am more than happy to be beyond 3 standard deviations from normal. May be that is an over exaggeration - 2 SDI.

New congregation accounting system

i'm sure i read a thread here about the new congregation accounting procedures.

i ask because i handle the accounts in our cong and in our part of the world the new accounting system has just arrived whereby local congs do not have their own account any longer, but all funds outside of basic monthly costs is forwarded to an account controlled by the org.

this is causing huge confusion in our cong as we have to work out how much we need to keep back for monthly costs and the new idea is that you send all your extra cash to the org and if you need it back you can ask for it but we don't know how easy or hard it would be to do that.

I agree WOW. I would like to get confirmation of this. This means the wt is acting as a bank and controls the money. It will be interesting how hard they make it to get funds out of the account and back to the congregation. I was account servant for years, this sounds like a nightmare.

I have listed to a few interviews with Mia Farrow over the years; she is a very strange person. My impression of Mia is well within the framework of what Mr. Allen wrote in today's column.

So, going on the assumption that Woody is innocent, how does he prove this? And the answer is he cannot other that what he presented today.
