the february 2014 public wt has a cover series of articles dealing with world war i, and by inference 1914. the articles describe wwi as 'causing the world to be changed' and as "a turning point in history.".
setting the wt's defective 1914 chronology aside for a minute, how do these statements about wwi coincide with the view of the nt?.
certainly wwi was a big war.
There have been many wars where millions of people die. You may want to read Henry Kissinger's On China.
WW1 was significant, but in the total stream of human history, I am not sure it was the "most significant" event in history.
And to isolate 1914 as the turning point, kind of misses the point of WW1.

Everyone wants to have sex. It is as natural as any of our body functions. The problem is that the watchtower indoctrinate young men that the only acceptable place to ejaculate is in the vagina of your lawfully wedded wife.
So, the concept of dating has a very different meaning to a young jw. It is a process with a very specific end goal.
Once you are out, it is difficult to transend this concept into one where you are attempting to have fun and eventually find love. As I learned love and sex are very different concepts. I say that from the perspective of someone who never found love until later in life.
as i grew up in the religion, i was a 10. i wanted to be made a "servant" because that was instilled in me from infancy.
i diligently studied ever piece of watchtower literature and defended my religion intensely.. when i got into my 30's, i started to see little cracks in the watchtower's surface but decided to "wait on jehovah".
then i started to research a little more critically and realized i couldn't defend the prophecies, the treatment of people and the hypocrisy that was becoming more obvious, that especially an elder can see.. it was a gradual thing---from a 10 to a zero!.
There was a period of time - a transition - towards knowing TTATT. I went from a believer to a person that really wanted to believe. I convinced myself that if I really understood what I believed my conviction would be self evident. Thus, I studied and the result was that I learned TTATT.
It was a very scary experience. I was physically ill from what I learned. But from that process I grew into a very different person. I hope a better person.
I was hoping to see that your hair grew back... Other than that you are a fine looking gentleman that looks way too relaxed. Isn't it an eye opener to find how great life is and how wonderful it is to enjoy its greatness?
i was not much more than 16 when i became interested in the jws.
i was an idealistic, unrealistic (read, romantic) kid, concerned at the suffering of so many people as a result of ww2 and its aftermath.. i guess that made me an ideal target for the kingdom message.
but strangely the person who told me about the witnesses wasn't one.. where i worked, we often had quite deep discussions during morning tea breaks, and a non-witness kept bringing up the ideas of the witnesses.

i've seen an interview with a crying old man, saying that he fears that he will not be able to recognize his sister or that he will not have any feelings for her, because of the many years and the indoctrination by the north korean regime.. all of this reminded me of the watchtower society.

I don't have FB friends like that. I basically use FB as a repository for family pictures. This is easy for others to see what is going on in my life. If they are not interested, they simply don't have to look.
