Met, I think they know the preaching is a worthless activity - but it serves a function totally unrelated to bringing in converts.

Circuit Overseer cutbacks?
by Saltheart Foamfollower init was announced at our meeting tonight that our co (who is actually a pretty good sort) and his wife have been reassigned as regular pioneers.
they are both relatively young (50s) and have been used extensively by the society recently.
as far as i know there are no personal issues.

It sounds like he got fired. One can suspect the reason based upon your first comment: "who is actually a pretty good sort"
That kind of attitude will get you no where in this organization. Moving to pioneer essentially means he will have a brief transition before he become a heavy poster on JWN. I look forward to his comments.

It has long since died as a means of obtaining recruits or even collecting donations. However, the field service concept allows the society to control the r&f. It is a source of coercive control and keeps the minions busy.

According to the Watchtower (actually any religion) the answer is NO. God id kind of like Santa Clause - he know when you are naughtty and when you are nice. This also includes thoughts.
I grew up believing this and had all kinds of guilt when my imagination wondered into the dark side.

I just loved "Moley" life in the new system thread but I have more to add.
by booker-t inmoley i just loved your thread on life in the new system but i was also wondering what will happen if old testament patriachs such as noah, abel, moses and others decide they do not want to be jws in the new system will they be destroyed by jehovah and jesus after all of their faithful service?
i have always wondered about this because they are not guranteed everlasting life until they past the final test after the 1000 year reign of jesus.
what happens if moses is angry with jehovah after he is reserrected and cannot believe it took so long 4000 years for the great tribulation will he be wiped out instantly.

Good questions, but the whole concept is kind of creepy. Here is a dilemma that I struggled with:
When a Baptist (or any other religion) is resurrected, will this person then conclude that their religious faith is what saved them? How will they then react when a post Armageddon JW knocks on their door and tells them that the only reason they are in paradise is that they were lucky enough to die before the Great Tribulation - and if they don't change their ways they will be destroyed.

by Daniel1555 intoday i was at the meeting (i go there about once a month now).
in the service meeting they had a part where they interviewed the secretary of the congregation.. so one question was: "why are the service reports so important?".
our secretary explained that the reports are important, because the elders can see, who is spiritually weak.

Guilt is such a wonderful concept. It is highly effective. Or, at least it gets a response. The problem with using a coercive tool like guilt is that you will get activity, just probably not the activity that you want.
