i have an unspoken rule that if someone ever invites me to a church - that i haven't been to before - i will go.
even though i'm an atheist i'm still interested in the experiance.
just like i'm not into basketball but i would like to go to a game sometime to feel the energy of the crowd.. growing up as a jw i've never set foot in another church.
I have gone to a few religious weddings, but other than that I have never gone to a church service. I have been causally invited, but declining the invitation is usually considered a relief to all parties considered.
I really have no interest in the concept of religion. Spending a morning at a church is a complete waste of time - at least for me.

Remember that you have the rest of your life. The sooner you get over this hump the better. These elders mean nothing - they deserve no explaination. Just figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life - I can assure you your life can be wonderful.

I am sure it is all about liability. If someone is hurt in a "congregation picnic" then the congregation is liable.
It is also about not wanting people to have fun. Guilt drives this organization, anything that reduces guilt (like fun) has to be forbidden.

i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.
i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".
All will be rectified in the new order, so it does not matter what we weigh prior to the great tribualation. Perhaps the excess fat will be a blessing when we are in a concentration camp with no food.
so, maybe this is god's way of preparing us for the trouble just ahead.
