i'm not picking on elders, because i know some elders i really like.
this is aimed at the hypocrisy of the performance-based atmosphere at the kingdom hall.. here are some things you do not have to really possess to become an elder:.

Conservative v Liberal power struggle in JWs
by dozy infrom my reading of ray franz's books , it would seem that there was an underlying conflict in the late 70's , with some members of the gb and associated committees pursuing a more liberal , mainstream agenda.
for example , ray published his 1976 wt article defining "sacred service" as including "good works" such as looking after family members and charitable activities and ed dunlap published the excellent "commentary to the letter of james" (never quoted nowadays by the wts) stressing traditional christian qualities.
both were purged in the late 70's.. is it likely that a similar movement will gain ascendancy or do we assume that the present leadership will continue on the "high control" agenda?

You make what money you can with it and let it go
This is the "cash cow" approach to marketing. You have a product that does not have long-term growth potential but currently makes money. The generally accepted strategy is not to change the product or make substantial investments in its growth. Just hang on as long as it generates cash but be prepared to let it go.

I went out in service with Carry Barber when he was a CO. It was a hot Florida Sunday afternoon after a long meeting. We went to a few doors, made a few RVs and after about 50 minutes he said: "I am tired let's all go home."

I remember when I was initially questioning my beliefs. I would many times post what appeared to be a pro-jw comment. In reality my goal was to articulate what I was taught my whole life so that hopefully an intelligent person could explain the faults in my reasoning. Some times the results were positive. However, many times I received very negative responses from very angry posters. The process was very frustrating and quite discouraging.
From person experience the moral of the story is: A poster may know what they write is faulty. However, the goal of the discussion is not to argue. Rather, the poster may genuinely want explained why the reasoning is faulty.

"No fear" t shirts, forbidden???
by free2beme inin the 1990's there were a lot of things that had the saying "no fear" on it and one of the local elders figured out that this meant we live life and do things without fear.
so that basically we could try things and take chances, without the normal fear we associate with things in life.
well in a special needs talk they decided that "no fear" t shirts should not be worn by good witnesses and they asked that we not wear them to witness gatherings, or even in life.

I'm so bad I'm good...
by RichieRich ini have been in the same circuit since i was 2. that means that most of the 1000 or so in the circuit know me to some extent.. in my "later" days as a witness i kept a very limited close circle of friends.
but i'm still fairly well known.
not "popular" but recognizable.. my mother has recieved a lot of gifts recently (candles, a blanket, cards, candy) and tons of phone calls.
