  if an atheist does something good...

  if an atheist leads good life with high moral standards, because he choice to do so and thinks for logic it is a good thing, does it not mean much more then when a theist does the same, because his gods tells him to do it?

  what's your thoughs on this?

  I was always taught from the wt that atheists do not value life because they do not believe in god.

  But this does not make any sense. An atheist believes that this life is all there is and will thus cherish their life. Compare that to your typical jw. This individual will put up with crap their whole life because they would rather wait for what they call "the real life." My sister in-law once told me that she will never be happy in this life because she is waiting for something better. She made that statement to re-enforce her spirituality. I just thought it was very sad.

  ok, i am now guilty of feeding into the "big announcement" frenzy on the board!

  another poster made an interesting suggestion that the "hypothetical" big announcement may be the elimination of the d.c.. i think this is a real possibility.

  its been cut down to 3 days from an original 8 days over the years.

  Blondie, Was the 1/2 day sessions that you mention the day that the session started late so that we could all go out in service.

  Districts conventions have gone from eight days, with sessions starting in the morining and ending late at night, to the current 3 day version. Circiut Assemblies have gone from 3 days every six months (Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday) to the current cycle of 2 days alternating with a one day "Special Assembly Day."

  It is reasonable to expect this trend to continue. Nobody wants to sit through all those sessions. I am sure as a percentage bases they are not getting the attendence they used to. Added to this is the battles the society fights with sites over food concession. If they lose that battle my gues is that you will never see another assembly in a public arena.

  My guess is that the next step in the procession is to go to 2-day district assemblies.

  if memory serves, isn't this the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the name "jehovah's witnesses"?

  has the society made much of this?

  seems like it would have been a great pr opportunity..

  Look for internet bashing at district assemblies.

  i have no doubt in my mind that the society will bash the internet with a part at the district assemblies.

  the reason i say this is because if you look at the worldwide reports there has been a decline in publishers in the more industrialized countries who have access to the internet.. some of the brothers and sisters are finding out the contradictions that we hold in regards to some of our teachings and the constant change of views on issues of voting, blood, donations, new light ect.... for example do any of you know that in bulgaria you will not be disfellowshipped if you take a blood transfusion.

  yes that's right, you will not be disfellowshipped because the society signed a document with the european commission promising not to take sanctions against any of it's members if they choose to take blood, in exchange for legal status in that country.

  they would criticize him for "independent thinking" and eventually disfellowship him for apostasy for not going along with their religious system and doctrines, don't you think?.

  oh wait...that's kind of like what the sanhedrin did to him 2,000 years ago..

  CO Meeting w/Elders ("Lazy elders", Tattoos, Auto accidents)

  meeting w/elders & ms. the theme was "take a personal interest in others"...phil 2:4,5. shepherding work.

  Some elders are taking this privilege lightly, not showing up for talks and leaving the congregation in the lurch.

  I always liiked when the speaker did not show up. There were more than a few times that they would just cancel the talk and we could go home early. But even if the talk was not cancelled the change in schedule with the Wt first was refreshing.

  last time in field service

  another poster had the topic about your last meeting, but what really stands out for me is my last time in service.

  it was a nice day and i was trying to keep up appearances.

  i offered the rags a one door and the householder took them (i didn't bother with the donation spiel.

  Next to last time I went out in service was the morning of the funeral for Princess Diana. No one wanted to talk about anything except the tragedy. I remember it was a beautiful day.

  Last time occurred several months later. An elder called and invited me out. I agreed to join him. At the end of the month I did not turn in my time. He got mad and that was the end of that.

  My revenge against the WTS

  hi folks, .

  after 7 months out of the cult and my 20e birthday approaching (next week) i sorted out what i would do with my life.

  after i exited the borg i thought about various plans like touring the world or infiltering the congregation and fight the borg or becoming a professional musician (music is a hobbie for me).
