In practical terms, what does it mean for the UN to ban religion?
It is a meaningless statement.
the un is on the verge of banning religion.. why is this rumor constantly being brought up by the jws?.
the un does not have the power to ban religion, such an act would go against its very charter and its declaration of human rights.. many of the member nations are islamic and would never vote to ban religion as it would undermine their own very existence.. so the idea that the un would or could ban or even consider banning religion is unrealistic.
never going to happen.. but the jws have been whispering that "the un is going to ban religion" for decades....why?
In practical terms, what does it mean for the UN to ban religion?

it seems that there are a lot of witlesses that opt to home school their children.
i had a family in my former congregation that did that, because the kids did not want to be around worldly people (sounds familiar?).
it also seems that they are speeding things up, so the children can get out there and pioneer that much sooner.
This has been a health discussion of home school. I consider home schooling a viable option that should be considered. If parents are willing to put in the effort the benefits can be significant
My observations of witness kids in home schooling is a different story all together.
The primary motivation for home schooling for many jw parents is to avoid the embarassment of an embarassing religion. I have seen kids staying at home and just watching tv all day. I have also seen a family thay while they taught the necessary skills the kids were totally issolated from the real world and turned out really strange. I have also seen kids out in service all the time instead of learning.
even though the bible does not condemn hunting watch them push their personal opinion and trun it into watchtower law.. watchtower dec 1 2007 p.31 "how should christians view hunting?
} "the bible does not condemn hunting or fishing.." {great leave it there..no need to push personal thoughts on brothers, right?
} ".....the apostles who were fisherman were likely gratified by a good catch.
It is all about time and control. For every hour a witness is hunting is an hour they are not out in service, at meetings, or family study.
And besides, some people actually enjoy hunting. A good witness cant be doing anything that qualifies as entertainment.
....and black little number tomorrow - with matching "smalls" i don't usually dress up for that day but since i'm feeling good about myself, feeling a little naughty i'm going to be putting on the clingy-ish number.
why not.
i'm even going to be dishing out heart candy to everyone in the office.. a superficial topic sure but if you're feeling good why not tell the world..
Do you travel to other offices? I have some mistletoe. Oh wait, wrong holiday. But come anyways.
.. the watchtowers original teaching on blood was that their are no uses for blood other than described in the bible.. .
animal blood outside the body was to be given back to the earth or covered with dust which precluded its use for any other purposes.
leviticus 17:13. .
A JW can work in a med lab and handle blood samples all day long
I worked as a lab tech for a few years and knew several other witnesses who had similar jobs.
can you tell me why in your nwt of the bible john 20:28 says, "in answer tomas said to him, "my lord and my god!
"" (captial g) to the resurrected jesus, however in john 1:1 it says, "in the begining the word was, and the word was with god, and teh word was a god.
" (lower case g) and then since jws have said that he (jesus) is a creation (the first creation, archangel) in your very own nwt it says in john 1:3 "all things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence.. it would seem to me that if all things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence, then he must be god and not archangel.
They explain it away. similar to when a person says "Oh My God, I cant believe I ate the whole thing!"
Now the person who says this is not saying they ate god. In like manner, Thomas is not saying Jesus is god, only that he was surprised to see him.
makes perfect sense to me.
the cong i grew up in during the 70s had an exceptional elder who was born for showbizz.
our service meeting parts were sooo fantastic they would not be believed by todays automatoms.
we had mini dramas to show how to use the truuth book, dressed up as scrooge from charles dickens novel and with "ghosts" of christmas past and present to represent old religion and new.
"There will be no fun in the kingdom Hall."
That is a direct quote from the bible, I forget where it is at, but the society takes this admonition very seriously. The meetings are to grind you down, not build you up.
if you'd like, head on over to http://skepticsannotatedwatchtower.org to check out my new website chronicling the logical flaws in watchtower literature.
i plan to do this with multiple books.
as always, comments and critique are welcome!
You have set yourself up for a big assignment. Looks very interesting and I think it will appeal to a very specific audience.
Keep up posted on your progress I am interested in reading more of your comments. It is especially interesting for someone like myself who has been deprogramed and can now objectively go back and see all the illogical statements.
a person is disfellowshipped, works hard to get reinstated and once they finally are, they go straight to inactivity and you almost never see them in the kingdom hall again.
when i was an active jw i couldn't understand why a person would go through the process of reinstatement only to become inactive.
i understand why now .
I have seen this numerous times in my life as a faithful dub. I rarely saw the reinstated go back to an active member.
witnesses try to make it sound as though they are very very conscientious people.
they care about you, your spiritual welfare, your everlasting welfare....but nothing could be further from the truth!
if they truly cared, they would see to it that they reached people to give them the lifesaving truth.
I like it better when you ask silly little questions. This is too much reading.
