Does anyone think Jehovah is protecting the org. despite all the talk about THE ARC ?
by tor1500 ini've been thinking this for a while.
even before the arc scandal.
it seems no matter what, the org.

So instead of god using his super powers to makes sure children are NOT raped by elders and ministerial servants, he uses his universe creating power to make sure the authorities cannot take action against sex criminals so they can stay safe in the loving arms of the org?
That is pretty convoluted thinking. -

Rejecting something due to unscriptural or pagan origins.....?
by stuckinarut2 inso witnesses reject many practices or holidays due to their "unscriptural or pagan" origins.. for example, birthday celebrations, mothers or father's day, christmas etc..... most people in the world will say "but the origin doesn't matter anymore, we follow this custom now because it's a joyful occasion that creates happy times and brings the family together".
it is still firmly rejected.. so, if the wrong origin is so important, and should result in rejecting something, why isn't the same principle applied to the actual jehovah's witness faith itself!?.
after all, the very foundation of the organisation was based on wrong understandings of the bible, far fetched teachings and doctrines, links to false religious backgrounds, pyramidology, false predictions, inaccurate beliefs etc...... using their reasoning, it doesn't matter how good something is now, if the origin was faulty to begin with?

There could be nothing more natural than a parent wanting to acknowledge the anniversary of their child's birth.
Unlike some other celebrations, birthdays are a no brainer!!! It is stupid to use the 2 events in the bible that had bad things happen at a birthday to be a guide. It does not hold up.

Overlapping Generation
by pandorasbox1914 inthe september 2015 broadcast had david splane explain matthew 24:34 “truly, i say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place”.
his explanation of this scripture was by means of a chart to indicate an overlapping generation.. .
no scripture was used to show the overlapping generation concept, and as a result it makes no sense.. to illustrate how crazy this concept is, look at the lyrics of the song my generation.. my generation.

I think one of the funny parts of his chart is that it shows the time from today to the Great Tribulation about equal to all the time where you see the "anointed" in the pink strips. Then they wondered why people would think the End wasn't coming next Tuesday. -

When is a theory 'just a theory'?
by HB inthe titles of cofty's excellent recent posts are all preceeded by the words "evolution is a fact...".
richard dawkins is encouraging people to use the term 'fact' in relation to evolution, especially when debating with creationists as the word 'theory' is confusing to many, and the latter often takes the discussion off on an often unproductive tangent.
the following may be of interest, it's from the bbc website - part of a regular series of articles called 'the vocabularist', discussing the origin and meaning of words: .

Faith can be put in the same category. Belief in a superior being takes just as much faith as believing in evolution.
I disagree with the above completely. Belief in a god takes way more faith. Evolution isn't just a bunch of words in a book that you have to take at face value. Evolution has literally hundreds of millions of pieces of evidence. It stand the test of the Scientific Method. It is undeniable by examination of DNA which even 10 years ago was not possible.
Whereas, belive in some kind of a god - had NO proof nor any evidence. People believe in a good because in the end it makes you feel good, and you don't have to learn anything - just believe.
There is the same amount of evidence for Jehovah as there is for Allah or Shiva. NONE.
That by the way is the definition of Faith. Belief with NO evidence.

Do not Disassociate, Anull your baptism
by jwfacts ini am now a jedi, so trust me on this.. .
why dis-associate, you are just playing by the wts rules?
how can you dis-associate anyway, you never thought you were baptised as a watchtower society member, you thought your dedication was to god, so why formally disassociate from something you did not formally join?

If all the world were JWs....
by Tornintwo inin my former indoctrinated state, i used to yearn for a time when all the world would be jws.
but hang on minute, let's just think about what the world would be like if everyone was a jw,.
first of all, no higher education, so no medical advances, no scientific research, no modern day medicine, infectious disease rife, no doctors, no engineers, so no modern day comforts.
-

If all the world were JWs - we would be using leaves to wipe or butts, riding horses instead of cars, building rafts to get across rivers, mashing papyrus to make paper.
By the way - not 1 invention by any Jew or Christian in the bible.

Your Favorite Poetry
by compound complex inthank you, dear friends, for expressing your thoughts today on the importance of the arts in your lives.
many years ago, a number of threads were devoted to poetry, literature, even english grammar.
rather than resurrect an old thread -- usually with zero results -- i would like to introduce a new post, asking you to add some of your favorite verse.

My Favorite:
There Will Come Soft Rain - Poem by Sara Teasdale
There will come soft rain and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
And frogs in the pools singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;
Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone.
