I have a family member at a bethel overseas, and to date they do not have any cases of COVID-19. They have been on lockdown the whole time.

Remember the Revelation book?
by wozza ini recall when it was released ,that's when i was a drone, how excited i felt at the prospect of reading it and formulating ways to sell it at the homes in my area.. i thought, finally a book to explain the last book in the bible and indeed one that the churches seemed to want to leave alone!.
i sold quite a few probably because of my enthusiasm and can still remember clearly the first day when i went knocking on doors with it ,and it's been decades since.. but over time it lost it's shine and my mind started to question the explanations in it due to the scene of other things being changed in the jw beliefs.. do you remember they flogged that book so many times in the book studies even when it was found to have "newer light " eclipsing it!.
who else remembers the printed pages with the official corrections to insert into the book ,so many that the book collapsed to be of no relevance anymore really.....what an embarrassment!.

Interesting, I never made the connection. There are some really intriguing theories about the Wizard of Oz book being allegorical. Not everyone agrees with it, but the theory is that it is a thinly veiled commentary on the US political scene in the 1890's. There are a lot of parallels, but one in particular is the abandonment of the gold standard being a big issue at the time, and Oz being the abbreviation of 'ounce'. -

New scrolls
by The Searcher inin 1985 a new phrase was added to our vocabulary, "new scrolls", complete with an explanation as to how they will benefit those who inhabit the new world.
the following five references are the only quotations of this new 'teaching', but incredibly, these two words have been indelibly stamped on most people's minds by repetition from platform speakers, and in general conversation.. w85 6/15 p. 18 par.
21 "during this thousand-year judgment period, jehovah evidently will give additional instructions, unknown to us at present, as new "scrolls" are opened.

144000 who’s idea first
by Tim207 inhello this is my first post although i’ve lingered on this site before.
i’m curious about a comment i read saying that rutherfords idea of only 144000 going to heaven was taken from the founder of the church friends of man.
i tried looking up this church but could not find information on when they started this belief.

The 144,000 number being literal predates Rutherford. It was taught by Russell in the Studies in the Scriptures. Where he got it I don’t know, but I’m sure he wasn’t the source either.

Curious to know the Zoom attendance figures for for the memorial
by joe134cd ini’m just curious to know the local attendance figures for the memorial.
my father told me they had an attendance of 140. not flattering for a cong of 100 pubs.
i was sort of surprised at this considering the quarantine measures and everyone being forced to stay at home.

At my home, my spouse was on the zoom and they had her enter somewhere on the screen how many were there listening, so I think she entered 2 (I was around enough to count I guess). She said they later announced the count at something like 190 where they usually have 210-220 or so.

Interpretation of Revelation has always been a thorn in the side of the WT. The trouble started with 'The Finished Mystery' (the supposed Volume 7 of Studies in the Scriptures) in 1917 that was attributed to Pastor Russell, but was really written by Clayton Woodworth and George Fisher. The book in '69 'Then is Finished the Mystery of God' was definitely a throwback to the 1917 book.
The 1980's Revelation book was one of the most preposterous books they have ever published. I still believe that the only reason they studied it in the bookstudy multiple times was to use of the inventory that they had published in advance, and found they could not place them door to door.

Dead Sea Scrolls FORGERIES at Bible museum (scandal)
by Terry inhttps://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/2020/03/museum-of-the-bible-dead-sea-scrolls-forgeries/ independent researchers funded by the museum of the bible announced that all 16 of the museum’s dead sea scroll fragments are modern forgeries.
the museum ceo exclaimed, “we’re victims—we’re victims of misrepresentation, we’re victims of fraud.” the pieces are probably made of ancient leather, they were inked in modern times and modified to resemble real dead sea scrolls; all with the intention of deceiving for profit.
the researcher's report’s findings raise grave questions about the “post-2002” dead sea scroll fragments, a group of some 70 snippets of biblical text that entered the antiquities market in the 2000's.

I read it to say that there were no ‘originals’ that were switched, but that the museum purchased the fabricated scrolls on the open market of unprovenanced artifacts. It is a story going back to about 2012.
