To me the most significant thing about this story is that there is still stuff out there to discover. Astounding. It's been 60 years since the last scrolls or fragments were found and something else was found, and there may be more. Keep looters away and search and professionally excavate any remaining caves.

Another article from March 16
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/dead-sea-scrolls-discoveries-are-first-ancient-bible-texts-be-n1261182
The article quotes someone who states that the wording of one of the texts in Nahum "differ slightly from other Bible versions, shedding a rare light on how biblical text changed over time from its earliest form."
Always curious about such things, here is a quick comparison:
Nahum 1:5–6 from the newly discovered text: "The mountains quake because of Him, And the hills melt. The earth heaves before Him, The world and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before His wrath? Who can resist His fury? His anger pours out like fire, and rocks are shattered because of Him."
American Standard Version: "The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt; and the earth is upheaved at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him."
I'm struggling a bit to see what the guy is talking about. Maybe a word-by-word comparison with the Greek LXX would be more informative.

Congregation Letter - 2021 Magazines Delayed???
by JWTom inwe had a letter read in our cong.
last week that said the public wt and awake would be delayed during the beginning of 2021. meaning we would just use the 2020 version into 2021 and there would be no new ones at the beginning of 2021 until an undetermined time sometime during the 1st half of 2021. at least that is the gist that i remember.
it was in what atlantis provided but there was no further detail....very brief.. any more intel or speculation on this?

This is a little off topic, but I am a little surprised they are not trotting out the 'there will be pestilences in one place after another' prophecy. They used to say that the 1918 flu was fulfillment of that, and surely by the same reasoning they could say that the COVID 19 is. A little curious to me.

Why did Paul call Jesus, “the firstborn from the dead”?
by Doug Mason in"jesus christ was resurrected on nisan 16, 33 c.e., the day when the jewish high priest offered up the firstfruits of the barley harvest.
this fits in accurately with jesus' being the "firstfruits" in the resurrection of the human dead.

I always understood it in the sense that Paul was developing an argument that Temple sacrifices were no longer needed and were 'replaced' by the sacrifice of Jesus. In the Jewish temple (and non-Jewish religions too), they presented sacrifices of their agricultural produce (either animal or grain, etc), which in practical terms was their way of propagating the priestly class. But with Paul's vision of the Jewish sect which became Christianity, the sacrifice of Jesus was a permanent replacement of the physical sacrifices.

His injuries sounded serious to me, and I would be surprised if he can regain enough to return to top competition.

Watchtower Change On Origins from 42,000 Years to the "Day Age" Theory
by Sea Breeze indoes anyone know when and how the change took place?
is the "day age" theory still the current position of watchtower?.

My personal recollection is that the 7000 year creative day period (and 42,000 years for the first 6 creative days) was in the old Paradise Book from the '60's. I later found out that Russell had taught the same thing, and the 42000 years was in the Photo Drama of Creation slides. I don't know when it was, but they did abandon this belief, I would guess in the 80's, as others have pointed out and given references. However, I believe they still adhere to the creation of man about 6000 years ago, based on the Bible chronology (so-and-so begat so-and-so, etc).

Research help needed: knowledge of Knights Templar and Masonic history vital
by Fay Dehr ini am in conversation with a uk historian regarding some knights templar locations, where jws have built buildings.
*** this is serious research - not a joke *** .
i am not - and do not wish to be - a conspiracy theorist, but something has come to light in the uk and i lack the knowledge of knights templar + masons.

People looking for a conspiracy can usually find one, then the next step is to project ulterior motives onto others based on the assumed conspiracy. It seems to be a common failing of human nature.
Curiously, it is a historical fact that many of the American revolutionaries, and several of the early Presidents, were members of the Masonic Lodge. There was even a political party formed in the 1820's called the Anti-Masonic party, largely formed by people who were suspicious of the Masons and their prominence in business and politics. It was the same sort of conspiracy theorist thinking that is happening nowadays.

Ban on Independent Meetings
by lssjr insource - march 2021 announcements - - https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5085868283920384/2021-march-147-english-german-announcements-reminders.
this is a sobering reminder of what happened some 40 years ago when raymond franz and others were literally kicked out from the jehovah's witnesses for having pre-arranged private spiritual discussions.lesson: paragraph 7 is another example of the i and t in dr. steven hassan's bite model of the 21st century cult - information and thought control at its best!!!!
"my gosh, there must be a lot of independent meetings these days.

When I was growing up it was common, and thought well of, for some to gather together to talk about scriptural things they were interested in. My dad often cited such a group meeting for bringing him in. I think they went through parts of one of the old prophecy books from the '60's, honestly I forget the name of it, but he found it fascinating, I guess.
I've not heard of people doing that for a long time.

Interesting bit of JW World War II Trivia.
by Athanasius induring world war ii when the nazis occupied a large section of the western part of the ussr, heinrich himmler considered various methods to help control the indigenous population.
alexander dallin reports in his book german rule in russia 1941-1945—a study of occupation policies, page 616:.
“himmler conceded that the easterners needed some general system of values, but it was madness to spread nazism among them, and to revive the orthodox or to promote the catholic church in the east was dangerous.

I’ve always wondered why they were still using the ‘Bible Student’ name in the 40’s. The name JW was adopted in 1931, at least in the US. Is it because of the legal name IBSA, or is there another reason?
