With some occupations you just about have to be a union member to have the job, so the WT has allowed membership. But they have frowned down on taking a leadership position like being a shop steward.

There was an attempt about 10 years ago to sell the assembly hall here (midwest US) that was built in the '70s. No one would buy it. The problem that made it virtually unsaleable is that it is way out in a field about 5 miles off the interstate. Back in the '70s they didn't think there would ever be a need to sell it, so they didn't care where it was, as long as the land was donated or very cheap. Now they wanted to sell it and build a better one in a more accessible place and they can't. LOL.

Where are the JWs on cross dressers?
by mickbobcat inso if a man lets say is heterosexual, married and happy but likes to in the privacy of his own home wear women's cloths and his wife is ok with it.
i know a person could just shut their mouth and who would know but i am talking about jw who is very concerned about telling the truth to the dubbers.
my guess is it would not be a dfing matter but they would not be a ms or elder.

"new orleans jazz has a primitive tom-tom rhythm that does a single woman's peace of mind no good, is one of the insane claims from the tower about the harmful jazz music.. the fact is - if you check up the writings of the tower - the only safe music is the "kingdom songs" - and those do kill your brain if you love music:-)) .

The bottom line is that anything which people find interesting, fun, or exciting that takes them away from the treadmill of mind-numbing WT activities or outside of the WT circle of cult-friends, will receive negative comments in the literature.

by David.L.Henson ina direct confirmation that judge joseph rutherford, 2nd president of the watchtower organization, had a weak spot for good whisky, can be found in the following hilarious watch tower article.. the u.s. congress had passed the spirit prohibition law, and the judge was absolutely furious that these "servants of satan" tried to take his booze away.. the watch tower, which according to fred franz had jehovah as editor during these days, directly stated that christians could not "participate in" such a prohibition.
in other words, they had to smuggle and drink booze to be loyal to god.
the jws are unfortunately a much more boring sect these days.. the watchtower, november 1, 1924prohibition.

I despise Rutherford, but he wasn’t alone at the time in opposing Prohibition. It did little except foster crime and proved unworkable.

HELP NEEDED: In publications, reference to suffering due to DF/DS
by EdenOne inhello everyone.. i need your help again.. please point me to instances in the publications of the watchtower (video links also valuable) where there is evidence of the watchtower's awareness that shunning inflicts suffering / damage to the excommunicated and to family members, friends, fellow witnesses, friends .... .... or that shunning is designed to cause distress and suffering to the excommunicated (with the purpose to hammer him/her back into submission).. .... or that shunning treatment is objectively and purposely a differentiated treatment vis a vis to what treatment is given to unbelievers in general.. i need to be able to locate those publications in the wol, and then find the portuguese version of it, to then print.. thank you in advance for your help.

This may encourage him to come back to his spiritual family."
The outrageous thing about the WT arguments supporting shunning is that they always present it as someone with 'bad behavior' or 'bad conduct'. Sure, there are examples of people who go off the rails and find themselves in trouble, but the vast majority in my experience are people who don't find the religion satisfying or believable and just want to move on in their lives. This is especially true of young ones who were baptized at an early age when they hadn't thought through the consequences. Later as they reach adult age they start thinking for themselves and decide differently. They do something which breaks some minor WT rule and get disfellowshipped. The shunning policy is a grave injustice.

My mother studied the Let God Be True book and was baptized around '63. It was the brown version of that book that she used. She was a voracious reader, and I recall the sister who studied with her would bring bound volumes of previous years, and mom would go through the whole thing.

Can a person order a free bible through the JWs?
by jwundubbed ini was researching the easiest bible to read (which the jw bible is not) and the best way to buy one online at low cost and it got me thinking.

My wife is writing letters, in which they often include one of the super-thin tracts they make now. I think they will occasionally mail out a WT or Awake on request, but I'm pretty sure anything bigger than that (like a Bible) they would not mail.

I've done my best to forget it. I truly detested the field service.
I was told, 'Try pioneering for a year, you'll never regret it". Well I did it, and it was awful. I do regret it.
