I did not realize that Ray's books are available free in PDF format at Raymond Faraz Archives
I also was not aware of this. I do hope that any copyright issues are contemplated with these pdfs being available.
the death of ray franz hit me harder than i would have thought.. i had to reflect for awhile....alone......and quietly.. .
after all, fine people die every day and some of them are indispensable, yet, we go on....don't we?.
but, ray franz was something that can only be described in the phrase sui generis (one of a kind).. my task was to ask myself what it was that made ray so singular, potent and admirable without a trace of scandal or ill will attached to his memory.. .

....is the best, in your opinion?.
out of the numerous translations i've had/used, i can honestly state that the 2001 translation is head & shoulders above all the others i've ever consulted, imo.
the publishers even invite suggestions/corrections to be submitted.
Galatians 2:20. They have used 'pole' rather than cross or stake
going on 2+ years of no public ministry.
can't imagine anyone is really enjoying letter writing still or that it's remotely effective.
i'm a little shocked that we haven't resumed yet but i guess that's what happens when the org is run by a bunch of old people (ie high risk for covid) and a bunch of other sheltered germaphobes.
In our area quite a few were buying stamps (US) online for super low prices, 30-40% lower than the current prices. Turned out they were counterfeit.
LOL
I could have told them the the post office doesn't sell stamps for a discount like that.

Ephesians 6:4 in the aforementioned translation
Surely the intended word is counsel, not council. Maybe the translators should get themselves a dictionary.

Is the Heb/Greek Interlinear (w/Concordance) a W/T publication
The WT produced and still has (on their app) a Greek Interlinear, but they have never produced a Hebrew Interlinear. They also printed the Emphatic Diaglott for years, but I doubt they still do so.
There are both Hebrew and Greek Interlinear Bible available from other sources. I have a one-volume Interlinear (Jay Green) which contains both OT and NT that I find useful.

Hmm JWs would like John 1:1. The Word was 'a powerful one'
blondie, it's so nice to hear from you after a two year break.
i didn't notice your return 10 days ago.
i'm so excited to read all your new posts.. i hope life has treated you well over the last two years.. i think about you every now and then and others do as well.
Thanks for the information about Ray Franz. I had no idea he had fallen on ice. Last I had known he was living in the south where getting ice is a rare occurrence. People living where they don't get much ice often are surprised for that reason. It's so rare they don't expect it and are not used to it.
apparently 4 new gb helpers as per reddit.
1) paul gillies.
2) johnathan smith.
I'm amazed there are seven names of people on the writing committee. They write so little nowadays there doesn't seem to be much point to it. Maybe they're more like playwrights now, working on movie scripts.
i don't know what i am talking about... read this post at your peril.
back in the 1960s there was, seemingly, a brief period of relaxation in authoritarianism among jehovah's witnesses.
those who have read raymond franz's 'crisis of conscience' will have heard the story about dan sydlik's remark about the need to 'open some windows to let some air in here'.
This thread is an interesting phenomenon, as it has spanned over 17 years (and counting) and the subject keeps taking on new dimensions.
DJW, I was a young man in the '80s too. It's hard to explain to people now, but the fear of nuclear war and the Cold War conflict was at the forefront of everyone's mind. The rhetoric and constant news bombardment may have had some role in attracting people to an apocalyptic group like the JWs. Reagan claimed later that his buildup of the US military was an intentional arms race intended to bankrupt the Soviet Union. I really don't know how true that was, but I do believe that the Reagan and Gorbachev combination of leadership resulted in defusing a world threatening crisis. This is one reason the Ukraine war is so alarming to me.
Back to the thread:
Several of my family members are still in, one a Bethelite, so I get some exposure to what the JWs are talking about. I've never heard anyone say anything about 2034, and the 'generation' is not mentioned at all anymore. Most JWs don't talk much about scriptural things. Its more of a social club now. They talk about getting hours, etc, but there is no substance to it.
how could the "two witnesses" mentioned in revelation chapter 11 possibly be j.f.
rutherford and his companions who got jailed and then released in 1919?.
w14 11/15 p. 30 - so in the fulfillment of revelation chapter 11, the anointed brothers who took the lead at the time of the establishment of god’s kingdom in heaven in 1914 preached “in sackcloth” for three and a half years.. watchtower november 15, 2014, p. 30 - revelation 11:7 says that it is "the wild beast that ascends out of the abyss" which kills the 'two witnesses'.. since the wild beast of rev.
A little off topic, but I think the original teaching from the Russell days was that the two witnesses were the Old Testament and the New Testament. One of many teachings that Rutherford changed post 1919.
