Who can doubt the millenium is here? Based on Britisher’s choice of clothing. That’s a good one!

More Watchtower Quotes
by Sea Breeze inthe secret of the greater intelligence and aptitude of the caucasian undoubtedly in great measure is to be attributed to the commingling of blood amongst its various branches; and this was evidently forced in large measure by circumstances under divine control.“ — charles taze russell zion's watch tower (july 15, 1902), pp.

I have always held that the negotiations and leadership which defused the cold war was one of the greatest accomplishments of the 20th century. Kudos to Reagan and Gorbachev. I'd put Lech Welesa in that group too

Where it all went wrong for the WT - JF Rutherford
by LoveUniHateExams ini was thinking a bit about this the other day.
ct russell, from what i remember about him, kinda seemed like a genuine, nice(ish) guy, although he had a few eccentric but harmless ideas.. during the russell era jws (actually bible students) could still celebrate christmas, worship in other churches if there was no kingdom hall available, and accept blood transfusions.. then after russell died, along came rutherford - a major league a-hole, for sure.. rutherford had plenty of eccentric ideas but at least some of them weren't/aren't harmless.
some have been long forgotten about - jesus depicted without a beard, the plan to rename the names of the week because names such as thursday (thor's day) is pagan, the articles about the 'dangers' of aluminium, etc.. one key contribution of rutherford which does a lot of harm is no blood transfusions, even in life-threatening situations.. another is shunning, something which never occurred under russell, or at least was much milder.. rutherford has a lot to answer for, i reckon ....

Chime in with sbf, I think the traditional idea was that it was code for Rome. I don’t have my Barnes notes anymore, but I seem to remember that was his stand (1800’s thinking). -

Conditions of Watchtower Baptism
by Vanderhoven7 ini understand that there are 80 to 100 questions that would-be witnesses must answer correctly before they can be considered eligible for "christian baptism".
however i have noticed that none of the questions relate to the 607destruction, the 1914 invisible presence and enthronement, or even the 1919 appointment of the faithful slave.. now some may feel my question is ridiculous, but bear with me.. will jehovah's witnesses baptize someone who answers all 100 questions satisfactorily, but rejects 607, 1914 and 1919 and the events the watchtower associates with these dates if they agree not to express their rejection to others?.
your thoughts....

I would argue that if the candidate disbelieves the 1914 chronology and the 1919 dates, then he or she would not agree with questions 72 and 73. So the candidate would not qualify for baptism under the JW definition.

Eie, I likewise always thought it in poor taste to make money off the brotherhood. Greedy and manipulative if you ask me. Likewise with the organized Bethel tour groups. But in all honesty, other religions are plagued with the same profit mongers, sellers-in-the-temple. I walked into such a place which targeted Catholics recently. I was just little taken aback at the plethora of goods they were selling.

I remember this thread, one thing that struck me was learning that Rutherford admired and campaigned for William Jennings Bryan. Tells you something about Rutherfords penchant for long bombastic speeches, setting up the conventions akin to political party conventions with ‘delegates’, use of sandwich signs, loudspeakers, political maneuvering to get to argue before the Supreme Court, etc.

A handy CHRONOLOGY of the life and times of Charles and Maria Russell
by Terry in1852 charles taze russell was born in(february 16) in pittsburgh, pennsylvania.
he was raised in a strict presbyterian home.. 1868 (age 16) in an encounter with a non-believer he became disillusioned over the subject of whether god as a heavenly father would burn his children in hell.

I haven't read all of the posts, but the OP's date of 1881 for the acquisition of the Beecher home at 124 Columbia Heights is, I think, wrong. I think they were still using the Bible House in Allegheny until 1906 or 1907, then bought the Beecher home and moved to Brooklyn. I'm going from memory, so if I am wrong, let someone correct me
