I had the 'Two Babylon' book also, and even quoted it in a high school essay I wrote for history class. My recollection is that the Society distributed it but did not actually print it. There were a number of books like that which were available at the congregation literature counter, but the only two I remember were The Tow Babylons and Strong's Concordance. You had to pay for them of course. When they went to donations these types of things were no longer distributed at the counter.

When Did Dr. Alexander Hislops Become A Pariah to the Watchtower Society?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia ini am going to be speaking to the 45-55 years old plus generation here.
i bought my first copy around 1980, it was the thing to do because it proved most of christendom's believes came from nimrod, and by the end of the 1980s the book and the name faded away into oblivion.. .
the watchtower use to print that book or distribute it, am i correct or has my memory gotten bad?

Tech49 on HOURS, TIME, and REPORTS
by Tech49 ini thought i would share some of my observations on counting field service time, reports, etc.
and how those reports are viewed, to those that are still so fixated on numbers.. i served as secretary on the service committee for many years, and have seen it all!.
i was really disheartened when wt changed the requirement for aux pioneering to allow for 30 hrs, instead of the 50 it has been for so long.

Around these parts (rural Midwest US) they have what the call the 'pioneer crawl'. Drive 30 minutes, knock at a return visit who is not home, drive another 30 minutes, coffee break, drive again.... wait, go back for the rest room, call again at a not at home... look mom, I'm a pioneer!

I am thinking there is an opportunity here:
Watchtower Society 'encourages' Bible reading .. see this weeks study article.
Watchtower Society has historically supplied and recommended using the NWT only
Watchtower Society cannot print enough New World Translations in English ... out of print in US the last I heard... reasons for this inability are still unknown
Maybe it is time for the JWs to go to their local Bible store and begin to discover some of the modern English translations which put the NWT to shame. If I had a bible student who wanted to read the Bible for the first time, the LAST thing I would do would be to direct them to the NWT, it is virtually unreadable for continuous Bible reading... a real joke of a translation

Honestly, this thread is a non-event. It is not unusual at all for an afternoon session to have 600 fewer in attendance. Many times it is due to adverse weather reports, people being hungry and tired of packing their own food, boredom at the inane talks, multitude of other reasons, but not due to the JWs disagreeing with any of the talks.

So all of the talk about a revision of the NWT in English is untrue? I'm not surprised, but that still leaves the question; why then is the NWT out of stock in the US? hmm. maybe they will change their name from the Watchtower BIBLE and Tract Society to the Watchtower TRACT Society.
Now that we know that the summer conventions do not have a NWT release, the only reason that is coming to mind for me for the NWT to be out of stock for a long period is a cash shortage.

One of the brothers appeared on the news last summer when they were digging in an empty lot looking for Amanda. Pedro said on camera "It is a waste of money!" It is a very brief segment, but is really suggestive

OK, spill the beans, which one of us wrote into Biblical Archaeology Review this month about the pronunciation of YHWH?
by dropoffyourkeylee inhere's the subject:.
the "q&c" questions and comments section of the journal 'biblical archaeology review' (one of my favorite magazines), jan/feb 2013 , p. 68, someone from illinois wrote the following question:.
quote: "we've often heard that 'jehovah' is an amalgamation of the unpronounced tetragrammaton (yhwh) and, when spoken, is pronounced "lord" (adonai).

Leolaia, I agree completely. The WT society maintains that the occasional use of the archaic YHWH (if I could produce the Hebrew letters here I would but it would be: 'pipi' ) in the LXX does NOT mean that the Greek speaking readers would have spoken the name Yahweh. It means that they held the word sacred and were afraid/unable to change it to a Greek equivalent. So the appearance of 'YHWH' in the Greek LXX is evidence AGAINST the WT position. Incredibly they have twisted it around and claim that it supports their view and the typical JW is clueless

First of all , Kudos to Raphael Aron, who is a courageous hero in my opinion!
Second, Vincent Toole, if quoted accurately, is lying. He has to know that his statement is grossly false, misleading, and contrary to JW practice.

This man died for standing up for God and Christ, and I admire him and others like him.
I do wish that writers of articles like this would make the distinction that the religion was not called 'Jehovah's Witnesses' until 1931. For instance the referenced article states:
Kusserow had actually been born Lutheran, but his parents became Jehovah’s Witnesses after World War I and raised their eleven children in the faith.
This is of course not accurate, as they would have become Bible Students at that time.
