Aude, I stand corrected. The term was ‘congregation servant’ , not ‘ overseer’, prior to the ‘70s change’. I think at one time ‘40’s or before, it was ‘company servant’.

Elder Arrangement
by vienne inhi everyone, (including the person who down votes all of my posts).
as some of you know, i'm working toward my master's degree.
comments from those associated when the elder arrangement was introduced would help me with a research paper.. what was the reaction among adherents?

I remember it being announced, or at least described, in a convention talk. One brother was taking notes and was really enthused, almost fist pumping, while hearing about it. I think that the prominence hungry types really welcomed it. Our congregation overseer was rather old at the time, and I think he was kind of relieved.

Geographical inaccuracies you cant shake
by GabeAthouse inwhere your mental image of a place does not match up with where you intellectually know it actually is?
1. great britain: i always picture it to the west of france.
if i'm reading about the norman invasion or d-day i always see it in my head as crossing the channel east-west / west-east.

Because of the size distortion of putting a spherical image on a flat surface, I find it hard to visualize the actual size of places like Greenland, Siberia, and northern Canada

Assembly Dramas:They were so bad.... but.... you waited for them to break away from the monotony!
by RULES & REGULATIONS in.
you do remember the four day assemblies... sitting outdoors being fried in the sweltering heat, getting heat stroke in the middle of july in an outdoor baseball stadium.sitting outdoors from 9:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. was so much fun while you wore a suit, long sleeve shirt and a tie while your brain fried.
mom's who had children to take care of,lug strollers, feed all the kids, take them for bathroom breaks and try to not faint from the heat.. the sound and audio was always breaking and barely audible from the wind, airplanes flying over and (if you attended the cicero, illinois circuit )you would smell horse manure from the horse stables next door.. you know that you are a jehovah's witness.... when the only excitement waiting for the drama... where brothers and sisters dress up in ancient cloths, fake beards, fake rocks and fake soldier uniforms and wave their hands incessantly to pretend that they are acting out a drama.the excitement was unbearable!.

Some of the old timers told me that Jephthah’s Daughter was the first-ever drama. I don’t know the exact year, but I think it was late ‘50s or early ‘60s

Is burying someone on a golf course tacky?
by GabeAthouse intrump's first wife and mother of his children died recently.
they had her buried on his golf course.
do you think this is tacky or a savvy business move since it'll now get them some tax breaks as a cemetery?.

I just read an article about it. He had it designated several years ago as a rivate cemetery, so it is a legal burial anyway. It sure looks like a tax dodge though.
Let’s hope they don’t have any Caddyshack gophers there.

There are usually regulations against that, though maybe with enough money there are ways around it. Seems like a particularly poor choice of location.

3. on the other hand, some brothers and sisters—younger and in good health—have more favorable circumstances that may allow them to attend christian meetings regularly at the kingdom hall.

Ok, I’ll go out on a limb and make a prediction. They will eventually accept that a certain percentage of people will be on zoom, freeing up seats at the KH. Then the number of JWs assigned to a congregation can exceed the number of seats. Result: more KH sales and money for the WT.

This years (Viewed it today) drama is a rehash of previous dramas with commentary by a string of helpers to various gb committees. As far as I could see, absolutely no new drama material was presented this year. They seemed to be parading future gb members so people will get used to their names and faces

Sanderson’s “Young People” convention talk
by FFGhost inso did anyone else have the misfortune of listening to sanderson’s talk corresponding to the saturday morning convention program?.
full title is “young people - choose a path that leads to peace!”.
the basic idea is, hey you teenagers, you ought to be pioneers, wt construction workers, and/or bethelites.. i tried to put myself back in time an embarrassing number of decades…if i were in this talk’s target audience, how would i respond?.

With their current and ongoing financial difficulties, you would think they would encourage people to work and earn money to donate. After all, the work is financed by the wage earners in developed countries. Without these ‘silent supporters’ there would be no WT.
