  I put off posting this hoping someone else would address it. Didn't happen.

  This responds to an earlier post by SeaBr. He/she posted an image of a tablet, claiming that it called Jesus God. He/She claimed it dated to 230 CE. He/She also wrote: “This is 100 years before Christianity became the state religion and was supposedly corrupted by Constantine according to Watchtower.”

  In point of fact, the date is in dispute. That’s true of most finds from this era, and I’m not competent enough to add to that debate. However, the tablet does not call Jesus God. The tablet lists women honored by the church. The only reference to Jesus is in the lower right corner. There we find the Greek word “ichthys” (fish). It’s an acronym for Iesous Christos. Theou Yios Soter; Ιησουζ Χρισιοζ Θεου Υιοζ Σωτηρ. Translated, that’s “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior”

  In that light, the tablet does not call Jesus God. It names him as the son of God. Despite Trinitarian twisting of scripture, it limits Jesus’ station to that of son. Paul reminds us that the Father is Jesus' God, “the God and father of our lord Jesus.”

  The Watchtower does not point to Constantine was the corrupter of Christianity in the sense that he was responsible for the Great Apostasy. They date its origin to late in the Apostolic Era, citing 2 Thess. 2:7. Mainline Protestants sometime date the Catholic Apostasy to Constantine’s day. What the Watchtower has claimed is that by an organizing council he founded “Christendom.”

  so david schafer a member of the teaching commitee and a helper to the governing body has come out yesterday with a new video that goes through the king of the north, the hailstones message and other things in the wake of the possibility of a ww3 and especially now that tensions are escalating with russia so he is making quite a few end time arguments and i will be expanding on those one by one but today let's see what he has about the hailstones message of the end(video) so this is the paragraph in question, paragraph 14 from article 20 of the watchtower 2020 study edition: "sometime after the start of the great tribulation, “the kings of the entire inhabited earth” will form a coalition of nations.

  Historian and former JW Jim Penton dies

  i don’t know a lot about james penton but i think he deserves a better thread than the one currently on offer.

  james penton, who died recently, grew up in a jw family in canada and served as an elder.

  unusually for a jw, he studied liberal arts at university and became a history professor.

  Mom and Dr. Penton corresponded off and on. He said nice things about the Separate Identity series, including, "they've done things no one else had done." He seemed a very nice man, though upsetting to Witnesses. He will be missed.

  even some groups, such as the christadelphians, who share belief in a future paradise earth, don’t share the view that some christians are destined for life in heaven.

  yet there is surprisingly quite a lot of evidence in the bible for the existence of two distinct groups of believers.

  I did not write the book or contribute to it in anyway. I was a child when mom and Dr. Schulz were writing it. You are grasping as straws. Theologically and psychologically. The claims of Masonic background are ... well, ... groundless. For you they're a tool to express your anger at being disfellowshipped. Fine. You continue to shout it out. But few if any will believe you. When you cannot refute something said here, you attack. I had a dog like that when I was a child. She was a very mean bitch. We had her put down.

  More to the point, Russell was not a mason. The memorial pyramid was designed and built after his death to reflect Watchtower belief that the cap stone of the great pyramid represented Jesus. You believe a myth because it brings you comfort and helps you escape your personality disorders.
