The other that ALWAYS was in my mind about the slave is that the way it's written makes me think that it was BOTH good and evil.

1919 What???
by NikL ini had seen it before but never actually looked.. sure enough in july 15 2013 wt .... 17 in the past, we have stated in our publications that these last four references apply to jesus’ arriving, or coming, in 1918. as an example, take jesus’ statement about “the faithful and discreet slave.” (read matthew 24:45-47.

Has 1919 been abandoned? Is the sky falling?
by FatFreek 2005 ini copied the following two items from jw dot orgs site entitled “dates of prophetic significance” at site below:.

In a recent book study we considered in the "Gods Kingdom Rules" book...
7 Shortly after he was installed as King, Jesus took steps to prepare his followers for the vast work to be done. As we saw in Chapter 2, he did an inspection and a cleansing work from 1914 to early 1919. (Mal. 3:1-4) Then, in 1919, he appointed the faithful slave to take the lead among his followers. (Matt. 24:45) Especially from that time onward, that slave began dispensing spiritual food—by means of convention discourses and printed publications—that repeatedly emphasized the responsibility of all Christians to have a personal share in preaching.
So is it dead or not?

@steve2
Apparently, the most recent "light" states the evil slave is not a literal class - so all current references to this Scripture scrupulously avoid using that old Rutherfordian nomenclature "The evil slave class".
Something that seems to escape them too...if the evil slave is not a literal class...it stands to reason the faithful slave is not either.
@ compound complex
I think they call it keeping up with Jehovah's chariot.

I had seen it before but never actually looked.
Sure enough in July 15 2013 WT ...
17 In the past, we have stated in our publications that these last four references apply to Jesus’ arriving, or coming, in 1918. As an example, take Jesus’ statement about “the faithful and discreet slave.” (Read Matthew 24:45-47.) We understood that the “arriving” mentioned in verse 46 was linked to the time when Jesus came to inspect the spiritual condition of the anointed in 1918 and that the appointment of the slave over all the Master’s belongings occurred in 1919. (Mal. 3:1) However, a further consideration of Jesus’ prophecy indicates that an adjustment in our understanding of the timing of certain aspects of Jesus’ prophecy is needed. Why so?
18. A consideration of Jesus’ prophecy in its entirety leads us to what conclusion about Jesus’ coming?
18 In the verses that lead up to Matthew 24:46, the word “coming” refers consistently to the time when Jesus comes to pronounce and execute judgment during the great tribulation. (Matt. 24:30, 42, 44) Also, as we considered in paragraph 12, Jesus’ ‘arriving’ mentioned at Matthew 25:31 refers to that same future time of judgment. So it is reasonable to conclude that Jesus’ arrival to appoint the faithful slave over all his belongings, mentioned at Matthew 24:46, 47, also applies to his future coming, during the great tribulation.* Indeed, a consideration of Jesus’ prophecy in its entirety makes it clear that each of these eight references to his coming applies to the future time of judgment during the great tribulation.
19. What adjustments in understanding did we consider, and what questions will be answered in the following articles?
19 In review, what have we learned? In the beginning of this article, we raised three “when” questions. We first considered that the great tribulation did not begin in 1914 but will start when the United Nations attacks Babylon the Great. Then, we reviewed why Jesus’ judgment of the sheep and the goats did not begin in 1914 but will occur during the great tribulation. Finally, we examined why Jesus’ arrival to appoint the faithful slave over all his belongings did not occur in 1919 but will take place during the great tribulation. So, then, all three “whens” apply to the same future time period—the great tribulation.
In a recent book study we considered in the "Gods Kingdom Rules" book...

Wow.
So the slave was appointed in 1919...then it wasn't...then it was.
Seems more like a strobe light than a light getting brighter.

Sorry darkspilver.
The transcript looked a lot like what I heard last night.
I am CERTAIN this congregation didn't go rogue. LOL
In honesty I wasn't paying real close attention to the part because i kept wondering if the society was sending financial aid to these poor folks in Russia.

What's preventing YOU from stopping meeting attendance?
by nicolaou inwe all 'exit' in our own way and at our own pace but i'm curious, why carry on stuffing yourself into that stiff suit and tie or meeting dress years after you realised the truth about 'the truth'?.
they kept you a prisoner, what's stopping you from leaving now that you have the key to your own cell?.
loved ones?

I go for my wife.
I hold her hand during prayers massage her sore neck during boring talks and am just there by her side listening to men who read the watchtower at what appears a third grade level.
I would never go again if she didn't want to go.

On the NPR website they had a big write up about it back in May of last year...
So it appears that the JWs are an extremist group!
Of course the banter at the hall is how ridiculous that is etc.
But look at how the Russians have defines extremist...
The Russian Constitution guarantees basic human rights, including freedom of speech, expression, and association. At the same time, it prohibits public associations that are aimed at forcibly changing the fundamental principles of the constitutional system and violating the integrity of the Russian Federation; undermining its security; setting up armed units; and instigating social, racial, national, and religious strife.[1] Also, propaganda promoting social, racial, national, or religious enmity or the instigation of such enmity, as well as propaganda promoting social, racial, national, religious or linguistic supremacy,[2] are prohibited.
https://www.loc.gov/law/help/fighting-extremism/russia.php
So by Russian standards the JWs are indeed a "extremist group"
As was quoted in the NPR story...
"In their literature, there are some very harsh statements and very insulting statements about other faiths," says Alexander Dvorkin, a former Russian Orthodox priest who now teaches the history of religion and cult studies at St. Tikhon University in Moscow. "Of course, every religion has the right to criticize other faiths, but that should be done in a non-insulting manner, especially if you are talking about the faith of the majority."
Pretty hard to deny that!
At the end of the day I think it really comes down to money.
If they don't have official recognition in Russia no property, no Kingdom Halls etc. I believe they could still practice their faith but that's not good enough.
The thing I haven't figured out is why only one community of Jehovah's witnesses seem to be involved.
Banned Materials and Organizations
Materials added to the list are usually categorized as the following: racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic materials; materials of Jehovah’s Witnesses; materials of North Caucasus separatists and other radical Islamists; materials of the Church of Scientology; and materials of different Muslim groups, generally not related to officially recognized Islamic organizations.[57] In addition, thirty-four organizations appear on the list as banned or liquidated for extremist activities.[58] Most of the banned organizations are Russian patriotic and religious organizations propagating racist and xenophobic ideas, seven Muslim groups, and one religious community of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Saw the news story on JW.org this morning about all the help they are sending to Congo after flooding there. Yay for them! Oh wait!
Matt 6:1-4 says...
Take care not to practice your righteousness in front of men to be noticed by them;+ otherwise you will have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens. 2 So when you make gifts of mercy,* do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 3 But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your gifts of mercy may be in secret. Then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you.+Shhhh.
