If you had to cherry pick a scripture that would support cherry picking scriptures, what would it be? I'm sure the JWs have one for that also.

cherrypicking individual verses out of context from scripture to fit our own theorums.. i randomly used 3 scriptures and stitched them together watchtower(r) style for a joke and to prove a point.. nb.
this is under the jokes section so don't take it seriously .
matthew 23:23 then jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:2 the teachers of the law and the pharisees sit in moses seat.. evidently this is a very old seat and probably needs a new cushion by now.

almighty god must have had a lot of time for thinking, so he must have sat there, at least once and thought along the lines of:.
"i wonder if i am actually almighty god, or is there something or someone greater than me ?".
"how can i know i have always existed?".
Stumbled on this youtube users video about this subject. Probably shared on here in the past, deserves another.
Got to watch it all the way till the end for the grand finale. Sensitive users please note, use of "Potty Mouth" language within but don't let that prevent you from getting the point of the video. It would be like not getting the point of Schindlers List due to some brief frontal nudity.

When my wife watched the video she had an "aha" moment. She kept repeating "pretending to know things you don't know" and that is what it really is isn't it?
It's a crutch to get a person past a "mental crevice" or gap in evidence, as it were.(lol) Having Faith allows the person to create a "bridge" in their thinking.
To me it's a mental "work around" that a person needs to use when confronted with this gap in evidence. It's the easier of 2 choices to reduce the "cognitive dissonance" they may be experiencing. You can either face the facts as to the lack of evidence, or insert the Faith. Inserting Faith is the easier of the tow to do.
It's something that people should REALLY be ashamed of having, using, encouraging other people to increase their "FAITH"

In my opinion, the Dr has a grasp on what faith is, and how it differs from hope.
Cant seem to get the insert video working here,..
Possibly the link works.

with internet access to material published by the watchtower and it being offered free door to door and at the congregation literature counter it should not be surprising that the wtb&ts doesn't make the same profit as before when literature had to be paid for.. so the nonprofit corporation must turn to other sources of income, like playing bank with the congregation's money, as well as selling property of which they have a sizable fortune.
beg for more money from the mostly poor rank and file, suggest willing leaving valueble property to the corporation, mandatory tithing, and etc.... part of this sellable property are kingdumb halls owned by incorporated congregations which thier by-laws give the wt complete control.
as times get worse for this corporations i would expect them to be tapping this source of revenue more frequently.. they are selling all their brooklyn buildings, and closing down branches and selling the property, and they are selling kingdom halls(who gets the money?)..
I think that when the jws do a remodel of a KH where the money is processed through the WTBTS it should be rely be classified as a leasehold improvement.

women gained some ground this week when the nypd said they will no longer arrest women who choose to go topless (like the guys) in public.. http://www.policy.com/articles/42359/topless-women-in-public-not-breaking-the-law-says-nypd.
san francisco and fremont california have had the annual naked bike ride and solstice festivals for a few years now..
Hey are there any potholes on that bike route?

i know about johnathan edwards and william miller being some of the forerunners of the wtbts.
how about much earlier in time?
was there a group during the middle ages or even earlier that preached something similar to the wt doctrine?
Here is a video that shows the history of how the IBSA and then the JWs came to be.
i have 5 children ages 14,11,9,7,2 any way i dont think theres much hope for my wife but which book of his do you recommend most?.
Teaching your children HOW to think vs WHAT to think is a good way to get started.
There is a great book from Richard Dawkins "The Magic of Reality" that might appeal to the older ones. I think the suggested age is around 1-10 plus.
There is an APP for Ipads in lieu of the book if you have one of those and makes it a little bit more exciting to read as there is some interaction within the app itself. Also check out some youtube video on the book.
