Hi and Happy Birthday!!! I have been studying astrology for several years now and the amazing similarities of people born under the same sign are just too much for there not to be credability to astrology. Linda Goodman was an outstanding astrologer and the first to interest me in astrolgy.Jonathan Cainer is also very good. I also am a gemini..

astrology (?) / happy b-day to me
by SpiderMonkey ini'm spending the week more or less lounging around my place on vacation, & today's my birthday, so i thought i'd ask all you hopeless apostate types <eg>, what's your take on astrology?
for years i thought this was a ridiculous practice, even after leaving the dubs.
but after reading a book that breaks down which planet was where on which day, and how each "affects" me, i don't feel i can blow it all off as coincidence or as one-size-fits-all doubletalk.

JWs at My Door today!
by Amazing inwell, well , well ... guess what ... jws were at my door.
we talked for over an hour.
it has been about two years since i talked with a live jws as they did their door-to-door work ... yes, nbc dateline came up near the end of the conversation ... i could not let them get away without injecting that topic ... and when they gave the opening, i rammed it in .... first, has something happened to jws these day?

None of them ever come to my house, I have been out since 1997 and have never got that yearly call to help bring me back into the fold..I guess they don't want me back. I did have an interesting discussion with two Methodist preachers, after I told them that I felt all organized religion was full of a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites trying to fleece the flock, they agreed with me that it would probably be awhile before I was ready to try attending a different church.....a long while.
Just reading over the thoughtless memorized service "presentations" makes me so glad I am not there anymore. :)

The JWs seem to adjust the grandparent thing to their convenience, I know my ex inlaws who are jws won't have anything to do woth my kids when they are busy with their own stuff...my children are now considered worldly. But every so often they threaten with going to court for grandparents visitation just to rile me up. Supposedly they are moving to Florida to retire....I can only hope :)

My JW mom's response to Dateline
by buffy ini actually decided to call my mom and ask her if she saw dateline and what she though of it.
she said she even taped it.
she said, "that abuse must be a problem or jehovah wouldn't have let it be brought out like that.

I was speaking with my ex about this on Saturday and it is amazing to me how he will still completely support the org. We used to attend the same cong that Bill Bowen is in so the dateline episode hit close to home. I asked him if he saw dateline, he said yes and he thought "pediophile paradise"was quite an exaggeration, I told him that there were many cases being brought to light and he said he would believe that it went on but not to the degree Bill is claiming. I asked him , don't you think its very wrong that it is going on at all and doesn't it scare you that our children were sometimes left at everyone of the elder's houses in Draffenville what if it would have happened to them. And unbelievably he said, well I don't have anything against any of them there and I don't want to know anymore about it because it doesn't concern me. Mind you...he is disfellowshipped and working towards getting reinstated, most of the time anyway.

I may be wrong but I think her letter takes a lot of guts, its easy for us on the outside to criticize the org---we should all remember how hard it is to do it on the inside. As far as the blood issue, all witnesses are fed the same crap about the sanctity of blood and many of us went along with it thinking we were right. I can't understand the criticism about the exclamation points...what difference does it make.

State Benefits how does it affect the brothers
by MARTINLEYSHON infirstly may i thank all those who took the time and effort to respond to my post on the subject of circuit overseers and corruption?.
the majority of your replies were very well balanced, and i do take the point that not all c/os were or are indeed corrupt, and that there are sincere and genuine brothers out there.
with regard to my new topic, i encountered some very strange thinking from bethel, than what was actually contained within the printed pages of the awake magazine.

Actually afdc or ktap...the state check has a 60 month limit but other

I know that here in KY we went through a time period of everyone applying for disability and state aid. I am a caseworker in the welfare office here and I see witnesses coming in daily for state aid, the funny part about it is they usually stop by when they are in service, they will bring their book bags and all with them, undoubtedly if they don't recognize me as an ex-witness they will try to say something about the paradise earth...I cut them off quick so they cant count time with me .I agree, that if they can spend all those hours pioneering they could hold down at least a part-time job so our tax dollars aren't used supporting their ministry, if you ask me they are just lazy and claiming sickness/disability just gives them another reason to stay home from meetings. Oh my gosh, I sound so bitter...oh well maybe its because I have to get up and go to work everyday :)

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses lie to recruits?
by jerome infirst let me say this.. i have constantly been hearing of the legendary honesty/intergity of the jehovah's witness for some time now.
i have also been informed that they are the happiest people on the entire earth.. my problem is this:.
when a jehovah's witness comes to your door and you actually decide to give them a few moments of your time they never give the whole story as to what you would be getting involved with when you join the watchtower.. case in point.

I think one of the biggest recruiting tactics is when your study conductor would totally sidestep a question and say that as your faith grew stronger you would understand. Kind of made you feel like a no-faith moron for asking questions. I thought they were messed up when I started studying, should have trusted my intuition :)

Dreaded Ministry School Speakers!
by TR ini'm sure every hall has or had a "student" or speaker that they just dreaded to listen to.
wether it was poor reading and pronunciation, or repetitive words, there are those grueling speakers that are murder to listen to.
and they never got better.. in one hall i went to, this bro, actually a friend of mine, had the speach mannerism "you know".

I always felt so sorry for the new and the young people who had a hard time giving a talk, we had some in our hall who would get physically sick and have to leave the stage. My middle son who is now 12 wouldn't even answer, he would try and turn red and just couldn't even speak, funny thing though as soon as we left the cult ,he started playing baseball and now does stand-up comedy at his school talent shows, he even sang last year...talk about a self esteem boost.
