If someone spending $1000 dollars on booze and at the same time being responsible for videos asking little kids to give their ice cream money to the "org" isn't hypocrisy then I do not know what is.

I remember years ago hearing lots of talks about how the angels keep God true organization clean, so everybody could relax because God was looking after everything.
It would appear that either these angels were unbelievably incompetent, or the talks like so much else were total drivel.

Is attendance down in your location too?
by StarryNight9 ini was commenting on another thread about how local kh attendance is down.
memorial attendance was also way down and the circuit assembly had hundreds less people than what is typical.
my jw family has even mentioned it.

Could it be that when we see a Kingdom Hall with lots of empty parking spaces we are missing something. Possibly 30 vacant parking spaces are actually only 15 "overlapping" empty spaces. Therefore by extension, contrary to our imperfect human reasoning, and common sense the hall is actually overflowing with people. Who can say.

"We're involved in a life saving work"?
by eyeuse2badub inas my wife left for fs this morning (aka gossip and coffee time with her friends) she mentioned to me that one of the parts in the clam meeting this week was:.
to remind the 'faithful' that, "we are involved in a life saving work!".
so i just calmly mentioned to her that if he really wanted to, jehoober could save thousands of lives every day just by controlling the weather or providing just clean water or just a just a few loaves and fishes!.

They have preached a "life saving" message for years. Many of the people they peached to in the past have now died and according to JW doctrine they will all be resurrected anyway, so it seems totally pointless. Still it keeps them off the streets

The 'IN' families
by punkofnice inone thing i don't miss about being a jobo, is those families that ruled the congregations.. i've seen how the elders protected their own using our old friend, nepotism.. eg.
the son of an elder that stole a car and was prosecuted but 'let off' because it was kept secret and all his relatives were elders in the same congregation.
it certainly went on when i was an elder but i wasn't one of the 'in' crowd.

Happens even with little things. A few elders in our congregation always asked their own families and best friends to answer at the meetings time and time again. I used to see people putting their hands down if one of the elders relatives or best buddies had their hands up because they knew they had no chance of getting asked, nepotism ruled. And you know what they say " Nepotistic in little things, nepotistic in big things" Think that may be a mangled quote from the Bible.

What is the most troubling or disturbing biblical passage you ever had to rationalise when a Jw?
by stuckinarut2 innow that we have stepped away from the jw faith, how do you feel about the bible itself?.
what about those awkward sections of scripture?
how did you rationalise or justify those sections?.

I used to worry about all these passages in the Bible, trying to fit them in with a God of love. Then someone explained to me that the bible we have today is not complete. The original text had some words that are missing in our versions. The most important are found at the very start, they translates to "Once upon a time"

The book burning has started
by pale.emperor indon't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

Matthew 1:1 lists 14 people Starting with Abraham and ending with David, a list of fathers and their sons. Fourteen people are listed, Abraham, his son, his grandson, and so on, then verse 17 says " All the generations then from Abraham until David were fourteen generations". The father one generation his son another generation his grandson another.
Seems quite simple. (No overlapping generations nonsense there)

Has the Governing Body EVER apologized for anything?
by Wild_Thing ingeoffrey jackson testified to the arc that the governing body has apologized for things in the past, so an apology to sexual abuse victims is "perceivable".
what has the governing body ever apologized for?.
22 q. just on that point, mr jackson, has the governing body23 considered apologising to survivors of child sexual abuse24 at the hands of elders within the organisation?25 a. i haven't been in any discussions with regard to that.26 27 q. is that something that you foresee might happen â in 28 other words, that an apology at least be considered?29 a. the governing body has apologised on other matters, so30 for me to say â i can't speak collectively for everybody, 31 but we have apologised on things in the past, in other32 areas, so it is perceivable.. .

Often the phrase "this publication once stated" is used when referring to major errors in the past, as if the magazine or books came up with the erroneous ideas by themselves!
