and if so proven, I'm going to decide whether I like him or not
I completely agree.

hey all i was a witness most of my life in the lansing area of michigan.
i've glanced at online communities like this before but mostly shyed away from them because after leaving the organization i became an atheist.
i'm not ashamed of it by any means, but these forums and websites seem to be mostly filled with folks who are still religious but just don't agree with the governing body's methods.

I feel that being a dub if you are able to free yourself you will eventually free yourself of the whole god concept. |
I think that this is usually the case. Jesus freed me...
To answer the OP: It seems to me that in this group the majority are non-christian.
jehovah's witnesses?
with their self-appointed "governing body", and endless "suggestions" regarding "christ-like" conduct and grooming?.
funamentalists?.
Jesus is alive today and he has spent some time with me and a lot of other folks that I know... quite a diverse group really.
recently barbara posted the update on the unthank case and mentioned that more would be revealed soon on the real identity of the faithful slave.. has it been revealed yet?
have i missed it?.
been looking, hoping!.
From the WBT$ Australian Court Case |
the society has been cracking down hard on parents having contact with children who have left.
for a long time, it was kind of a "wink-wink" thing with the "necessary family business" loophole, and a lot of families found some relief with that.. but in the latest magazines and assembly parts, they're making it crystal-clear that pretty much nothing except a death in the family counts as "necessary family business".
and even then, you probably wouldn't be invited to the funeral.. the key is, they don't actually define what "necessary family business" is in the article.
my absolutely malicious, vicious, destructive Jehovah's Witness parents |
Yes, I do wonder if my life would improve upon being DFd.
I know of an elder who was removed because of eating breakfast with his DFd son who worked for the family business... so I guess not all of them get away with it.
stomach problems?.
okay i know it sounds cheezy.
but hopefully those of you who suffer these digestive problems won't just rely on your doctor's advice.
Can you post this elsewhere, with slightly different wording perhaps? I would love to share this with a JW relative who really suffers from heartburn/reflux. I have candida and ulcerative colitis, so it wouldn't be unusual for me to run across it elsewhere. TIA
1) yes it is moral and rational.
2) yes it is moral.
3) yes it is rational.
4)
If you know very well where the presents are coming from (you, or the kid's parents, not Santa) and you have no evidence that anyone receives anything from Santa, then it is not rational or moral to teach that Santa is real.
Love in Christ, SOG
lately i've been finding it more and more difficult to keep up a front.. .
before i learned the tatt i was the mover and shaker of our family.
i would study with the kids.
I am in no way a JW at this point, but if I disassociate I know several family members that would suffer, so I am taking things very slowly with the family.
I told my parents that I will not be discussing my return to meetings because going to meetings worsens my depression, causing fear and anxiety about the Great Tribulation and causing me to stop praying due to unworthy feelings. These feelings are better when I don't attend meetings and worse when I do... so I will not discuss it.
I know one person, a man, who continues to go to meetings with his wife and child, but the child is much younger and this man is a Christian, so the circumstances are different. I do not know how I would be able to stand it.
I would read Combatting Cult Mind Control and see if you can use the techniques on your husband. I haven't read Releasing the Bonds yet. I am hoping there are good things in there, but I would not have your husband read it with you if he is so 110% opposed to what you have to say.
Sending positive thoughts, strength and prayers your way.
Sisterly love,
SOG

me - oh.. zac - are you happy with me dad for remembering jehovah.
oh, zoiks, I hope our 4 yr old doesn't tell MIL that we burned our Bible Story and Great Teacher books!

We make sure that the grandparents only see the children while we are within ear shot. We are also teaching our 9 year old scriptures to combat what the JWs believe, especially the belief that we need to fear the Great Tribulation or Armageddon.
Keeping in mind that you are unlikely to teach your children scriptures, I do like the idea of teaching your children various things about God so that what the MIL says is not the only view they get.
Sisterly Love,
SOG
