after sitting back and watching, i'll say this: regardless of all the intentions and 'promo', or whatever...i don't trust or 100% respect the AAWA as a group PURELY because peoples identities were outed on their watch.
i remember when, as an elder, i was making covert moves with my wife to get out of that bullshit cult with some sort of dignity...the feeling that i had done it on my own terms, you know? so that i could say, 'at least i had control in THAT...'. i was so careful. tracks covered, stories polished. it was a breathless time, full of anxiety and pain...and fear. fear which i eventually overcame, true enough. but fear it was...and back then, i slept with it.
if at this time, while drowning among the rising ruins of my once 'simple' life, ANYONE had outed me...even inadvertantly, it would've destroyed so much of what i was delicately balancing. if the person responsible for doing this was also IN THE VERY SAME SITUATION as i was, it would've made the whole affair very bitter.
and if there was no full, no-strings-attached apology afterwards...well, i have no idea what I would've done. the feeling of betrayal wouldve been a far second to the feeling of panic at my newly exposed situation.
SO, i dont care WHO runs the AAWA...i don't care if the board consisted of Gandhi, MLK, Mother Theresa, and Ben Kenobi. if just ONE PERSONS secrets were compromised, if just one person had to frantically deal with the dry-mouthed panic that i KNOW would've slapped me in the face...well, based on that alone, the AAWA can really go take a walk. even if there are good intentions all around, 'friendly fire' is still fire.
why the hell do human beings need SO badly to work in GROUPS?

having been a lurker here for years before i ever posted, ive watched LL's posts and words. she seems like a nice lady. i admire anyone with the guts to question everything and come to terms with the fact that your entire life may be 'wrong'. that takes a special type of 'realist'. i dig it.
that said, grand 'departure' posts on forum boards have always been more telling to me as an action, regardless of what is actually said in the 'goodbye'. one of the true and fine things my JW old-man did teach me was this: people will tell you exactly what they want if you listen with your eyes. posting long and 'righteous' goodbyes...i dont know...definitely hints at a passive-aggressive intention. you know....can't deal with the reality of a situation due to impatience, percieved injustice, intolerance, etc? just leave. PM's are made for PM'ing. tell your friends goodbye and move on.
otherwise, a complex goodbye post may leave a bad taste in the mouths of the ones you leave behind. you know, 'this place isn't healthy for me, now...i can't justify remaining here because of the less than proper things going on. but by all means, YOU ALL FEEL FREE TO STAY...'i don't know. just my opinion...which has often been wrong...and is worth whatever you'd like to pay me for it.

by Unlearn inso, i dont know if this has been posted/addressed here...but watching this whole jackson family thing play out in the public eye is surreal.. the press assume that the only reason mj's brothers and janet are contesting his will and want control of the kids, is money.. seriously...mj's bros and sisters dont need his money: his bros get paid everytime you hear a jackson 5 song.
they're all millionaires.. janet is loaded.
but, the media doesnt know what we know...so they assume that the only reason they'd want mj's kids is for the $$$$ that come along with them as part of the deal.. we know better.. i believe a big amount of respect is due to janet and jermaine and the rest of the gang...theyre trying to rescue those kids from a jw brainwashing fate.. i'd bet money on it.. they say janet was trying to convince paris to willingly leave her grandmothers home and come with them.. im telling you...they're trying to save those kids.. and as any of you who have close family still in the cult can attest to, we apostates are some of the most loving, long-suffering people on the planet...as many of us publicly hold our tongues repeatedly when it comes to that cult, because we dont want to hurt mom, or dad, or kids, or siblings.

decsions by judges regarding the welfare of minors are made all the time, taking into account the spiritual beliefs of the guardian(s) as a 'lifestyle', and determining whether such is damaging to the childs development...without ever ONCE mentioning the specific name of the religious belief system involved.
saw it over and over again when i was an elder in the org, during custody disputes between believers/non-believers.
depends on the people involved, as well as the judge hearing the case, as well as social workers involved.
because you're not hearing 'JEHOVAHS WITNESSES' on the news means nothing.
