This is my first real Easter. 2 years ago my husband's family was doing an Easter egg hunt in the yard and the eggs were filled with confetti and everyone would smack the egg on someone's head and get confetti in their hair. I was still brainwashed at the time but they wanted me to join in so I did and it was fun but I felt hella guilty afterwards. This year we're not really doing anything non-religious since the nieces and nephews won't be around but my MIL and I are going to my church to see Handel's Messiah with a full orchestra and choir, and a sermon and possibly modern worship music as well. We did the Stations Of The Cross today. (My MIL is Catholic, I'm Protestant as well as my husband but the whole family is a mix so nobody fights about it.) I have a pastel-colored wreath on my door and we did get an Easter basket as a gift from my SIL. Lots of candy, yummy!!

Not sure about cancelled but up in the Rhode Island area in 2010 there was a lot of flooding and a lot of people simply weren't able to make it. I wonder if they were made to feel bad because of it.

My father's side of the family are pretty much all alcoholics. I mean totally. My grandfather (former elder) would get so drunk he'd walk around naked (pretty scary to accidently see as a 9 year old girl!) and my dad would have empty wine bottles and glasses on his bedside table and a half-empty bottle of rum next to the closet. Everytime I'd go to his house as an adult he'd fix me a drink, even if I didn't ask for one. We spent Christmas in Myrtle Beach two years ago with his side of the family and one woman who's not actually family but my aunt's best friend was pretty shocked at how much everyone drank. I mean my grandmother, dad, aunt, everyone all got totally drunk and then posted the photos all over Facebook for everyone to see, even their non-JW friends were shocked at the pics. My sister (when she still talked to me) was always talking about needing a drink.
I too, as a JW, and even sometimes now struggle with desperately wanting to drink and get a buzz on but now I feel the need much less than I did then. Back then it was one of the few things that made life worth living.

What's Your Status? Are You Technically Still A JW?...
by minimus inare you disfellowshipped, disassociated, active, inactive???
?.

Inactive. I get visits sporadically, sometimes a few close together with lots of nagging from this one lady and her husband (the only JWs who bother me now that I changed my phone number) and other times nothing for months. I got a memorial invite (I haven't answered the door in months, I let my "worldly" husband answer it) and promptly threw it and a magazine about "true Christianity" in the trash. Maybe they finally noticed the big cross on my door and the new Easter wreath...

Approval of child baptism
by JWB inapproval of child baptism.

My sister was nine. I'm two years older and didn't get baptized til I was 18, partially out of the intense pressure I went through every day of my life because of my younger sister being so "spiritual." "Why aren't you baptized yet?" "And your sister was only 9? What about you?" "What's holding you back, is it a lack of faith?" etc. It totally sucked. I did become a publisher (and gave talks) starting at age six. To be honest I didn't really know what I was doing, my mom wrote all my talks and told me what to say at the doors.

They've been teaching it at least since the mid-90s, it's in the Revelation Climax book, I remember studying it several times as a kid and then a young adult. This is nothing new.
