00Dad, I agree 100% I know all too well the grief and sadness shunning causes and have the utmost sympathy for any and all who have/are experiencing it ESPECIALLY from the ones they love MOST- family. I didn't mean to sound callous. I only meant that when under the mind control of a cult it unfortunately often takes something SHOCKING and PERSONAL to wake up out of the fog.

Pre-emptive shunning - a growing reality
by cedars ini'm scanning through some of the results from the 2012 jw survey as they're coming in.. the most populous of the six voting categories with 76 voters so far is my own category, for those who are inactive, or "faded/fading" (not disfellowshipped or da'd, but no longer reporting time on the ministry).. one statistic already leaping out at me surrounds the question "do you experience 'pre-emptive shunning' from active witnesses, who view you as 'bad association'?
" of the 74 who voted on this so far, 76% have answered "yes" to this question.. it's early days, and obviously i will have a clearer picture of the extent of the problem once the survey closes at the end of the year.
however, the results already in suggest that pre-emptive shunning is widespread among inactive ones, despite this not being an "official" policy of the society.. i was interested in your opinions as to why this may be?

My hubby and I experienced "premptive shunning" by some JWs in our former cong and by most of our realatives. Our family shuns for different reasons than the the former "friends". Our family live out of our circuit and even our district yet managed to find out we are inactive. They shunned us because we asked them to pay back money they owe to my very elderly, widowed, faithful JW mother. They didn't want to and they were EMBARASSED that we knew about the large gifts and loans that mom gave nearly all of her realatives (siblings, nieces, nephews) throught all their lives. Now that SHE is in need they refuse even a nickel. These are pious-sneers, and elders and their wives. They shun us because we remind them of their hypocracy.
The local dubs who shun us do so for the usual reasons already stated by others. The shunning for NO valid reason whatsoever got us to start waking up. Frankly, as I see it , those hypocrits are HELPING the dubs they shun. By showing "no natural affection" they cause doubts, distress, and anger. All the emotions to make a dub BRAVE enough to look more closely at his beliefs and the organization as a whole. Only after "pre-emtive shunning" was I willing to come to this site. Once here......
The rest is history.

Awake openly mocked on website...
by Tuesday inhttp://blogs.sfweekly.com/exhibitionist/2012/02/5_hilarious_social_media_image.php.
this is actually not a former witness or anything, this is a cracked style article.
i think it's pretty funny, i think it's evidence that the wt is not going to be around forever.

Wanna, My hubbys 1st wife would have said he must have had some secret sin for Jehovah not to protect him.
My condolances to his wife and loved ones. Chances are she'll be shipped home to fend for herself unless the WT$ thinks she is useful to the branch.

Do You Think JWs Are Realizing That They Have Been Duped?
by minimus ini think that many of them begrudgingly admit that they are going to die.
they are not going to live in a paradise with all the animals, blah, blah, blah.. i think that even if they won't speak out about it, it has to do more than just cross their minds.. nobody likes to be duped..

Most are clueless and prefer the comfort of their beliefs. Who doesn't want to feel "special".

I still feel the same, now with uncertainty
by I Want to Believe inso i bought a "first bible" for my 2 year old.
it has about a dozen hard pages so they can't be torn, has colorful illustrations and touches on the basic stories of noah, david, jesus, etc.
but without the wtb&ts spin (or graphic depictions of the wicked drowning, etc.).

So sorry you are feeling this way. I am newly awakened myself. Sometimes it feels very lonely-especially when you have to watch everything you say and do in public. Remember though, that when we were still "in" we had to do the same anyway, plus all the meetings , service, parts, assems, etc. Many of us were lonely even at the meetings because we were ignored.
As born ins we are so accostomed to having our whole life planned out for us that freedom seems weird at first. Like letting a scared animal out of a cage. Sometimes it just feels safer inside like it's being somehow protected. The outside world has been deamonized by the WT$ all our lives so it naturally takes time and experience to reprogram our thinking.
Never forget this is a cult. We have been captives of the powerful influence and control that is used. Have you read either of Steve Hassons books yet? These are very useful in understanding the techniques used on us and how to become free from the mindset. Be patient. It is a process. People are here to help!

Hi Palmtree, I hope the vodka and duct tape give you relief. Amazing how such a small thing can be such a big pain!
