Yes Terry, this callous disregard for the elderly hit home to hubby and me and was one of the reasons we left the Borg. I intend to start a thread detailing the treatment my faithful, widowed, born in, 93yr old mother recieved when I wrote the WT$ on her behalf and asked them to repay her last $20,000.00 loan to them.

The "invisible" Elephant in the room: ELDERLY JW's nobody provides for
by Terry inquestion: how does the leadership of jehovah's witnesses instruct its members to prepare for the eventual elder care of its members?.
answer: it pretends it will never happen!.
is this responsible leadership or some kind of cognitive dissonant malfeasance?.

You would return to Jehovah's Witnesses if...
by Shawn10538 insomeone else suggested this so i just figured, ok let's do it.. 1. all present jws died and i became the sole leader of the entire religion.
2. then i would dissolve the religion and burn every last memory of it ever existing.
3. all books would be burned, all buildings destroyed.

It's official!
by lilbluekitty intonight i just got my certificate: i'm officially a member of my church and a baptist.
(i think of myself as just a general christian, but i like the laid-backishness of the baptists.
i definitely don't think one denomination is better than anyone else though, and my church is multi-cultural, so i'm not a hater of other races like some southern baptists).

Congrats! Just curious, what made you pick the Baptists as opposed to any other Christian faith?

How did you visualize Jehovah when you were young?
by Matsimus ini was born as a third generation (perhaps even fourth gen. but my great great grandfather never got baptized) jw.
i remember that when i was young, perhaps about five years old, i would think about jehovah as this big black ghost with yellow eyes.
to me he was quite frightening, and i was constantly catious not to piss him off.

Being a child of the fifties, and having a harsh father, and being told that Jehovah is my heavenly father, I was terrified of making him angry. According to what I was told, pretty much everything enjoyable makes him angry. I spent my whole life trying to help him see something good in me.

Fakeness of the Elders When CO Visits Video

The kindest CO I've ever had was forced to quit after only about 2 years in the circuit work. His wife (also very sweet) came down with cancer and he had a nervous breakdown. He was about 40, raised as a JW and full of empathy. Of course, his nerves couldn't stand dealing with the particularly horrid elders in our circuit. We were his first and last. I'd love to hear someday that they left the Borg.
It figures. There are 2 kinds of people: The ones who GET ulcers and the ones who GIVE them.

Should you ever tell tour aging parents the truth about the truth
by Star tiger insince finding out the truth about the truth myself and having successfully extricated myself and my parents about the jw's, i find myself with a new dilema that being they still believe the bible as a literal book for their salvation as i has read all of thomas paines works and how the bible is not very good for the human family, as they are of advancing years would it be inappropriate to shatter their illusions of some kind of paradise and let them flounder in a moral precipice and wonder what their lives have been about.
on the flip side once their time has come how would i feel for not telling them their false views.
at the moment i am in the deist point of view, with a tendency of the agnostic, it is quite a dilema!.

Totally agree with the others . What is the point when a parent has only a few years or less. My 93 year old mother was not expected to live out the month at this time last year. Instead, she continually got better and now attends all the meetings. Thankfully, I don't have to take her-she lives in another town. She actually looks foreward to those meetings. They make her think she is insuring her eternal salvation as well as giving her the social interaction she craves. If I told her TTATT she not only wouldn't believe me but she would die broken-hearted that I was going to be eternally destroyed. How does that help anyone???

I don't like "taking the lead"
by I Want to Believe insome men probably got off on the power/ego trip being a male jw gets you, but i never cared for it.
i'm an introvert, and was an especially awkward one at that haveing been reaised in social isolation, so it was about the strangest feeling in the world when as a newly-baptized teenager (back in the day) i started to pioneer.
i was about as green as you could get in every way but i was told i had to take the lead in the service meetings and the car group.
