Have you grown detached from caring about JW family and old friends?

after being out of the borg for a year and a half, weve dealt with a lot of nonsense from local elders stopping by unannounced, well-meaning do-gooders trying to encourage us.

somehow weve managed to get through this without getting dfd/dad.

for me the worst part of it all has been that much of my family has shunned me, and stopped talking to me, as soon as they heard through the grapevine that i wasnt going to meetings.

Hubby and my situation is similar to yours except we didn't wake up untill we were close to 60 yo. We have no siblings but every living relative is a JW. We faded several years ago and have been shunned by our aunts, uncles, and cousins. None live in our town. NOT ONE has called or written a word of encouragement. We have received a couple of nasty phone messages I can't discuss for now. They know we have suffered a number of trajic situations yet, we are dead to them. I too, have finally stopped crying over the loss now that I realize they never had real love for us. Do we intend to have it out with any of them? NO! They have revealed their authentic and cult personalities to be selfish at best hateful at worst. Why waste my emotional energy on them. They know how to reach us. If they ever change I will welcome them with open arms but as they are now, they are TOXIC.

does anyone remember what year the word "servant" was replaced with "overseer" as in circuit servant overseer, district servant overseer ... and up the hierarchal lineage of the jws?.

The nu lite was introduced/announced at the conventions of the summer of 1971. The arrangement went into effect early 1972.

Planting Seeds--Plants Do Not Grow Overnight

i see some post here that want family and friends to see ttatt immediately.. i'm a gardener, a serious one.

we make sure we put in an area that gets sun, check the soil each year, put in compost and other amendments, make sure we plant seeds compatible with the ones next to them, plant far enough apart, proper amount of water.

everything can be perfect but when i go out the day after planting...nothing has broken through yet.

So true Bondie, I am a gardener as well. Where I live TIMING is crucial because our summers are very hot (over 100F) yet winter brings freezing temps. Picking the right time and place to plant means success or utter failure. I am finding it very hard to restrain myself from spewing TMI all at once to jws when I am already in a bad mood. Thank you for the reminder.

Terry, as I recall, the authors of Watchtower have changed their "understanding" about who is and who is not an "ordained minister. I can remember hearing baptism talks where the speaker stated "Today you are an ordained minister." Hahah 10 and 12 year old girls included. Do you (or anyone else) know what years they believed what on this subject?

I must admit that for many years I took most deaths for granted as many JWs do UNTIL a family member I was especially close to suddenly died in his 40's. It was a devistating loss not only to our family but to the hundreds who loved him. I didn't recieve one card and just a couple of phone calls. From then on, like you, I made it a point to let others know my sympathy in writing. Cards mean more than we think. They are often kept forever. Later, when my own son died, I soon learned how shallow the love is at the KH. If i missed a meeting because I couldn't handle the music, crowd or stupid comments , I was gossiped about. We were treated so badly I basically stopped attending.

Watchtower and Women's Rights

we are in the year 2014, women make up the majority of the jw population, yet are not given certain '''''''privileges''''''' simply because they don't have a penis.

no talks, no leadership roles or the hope of them...ever, no matter how educated, zealous, or well spoken you are.. with the world moving towards upholiding women's rights do you see this becoming an issue that the watchtower will have to 'adjust it's thinking' on soon?.

Why should anyone be surprised that women are considered second class in the WTS when so many of the origional leadership were in one way or another sexually repressed/deviant. Those nasty ole wimmens are "a hank of hair and a bag of bones".- J D Rutherford.

like always, his answer brought a smile to my face.

he said, "to have a great time .. to have fun and have friends ... and be happy.

Yesterday I met up with SIAM for the second time. He is delightful! I can't wait to meet his family. I'm really looking forward to when we can attend the Tahoe shindig on July 4th. Till then PM me if you are in Northern Ca and want to get together.
