  I, as a lowly girl/woman, could never aspire to such a lofty position such as mic handling, or ringing the bell for the school overseer. Elder? fagetaboutit! My father and both husbands were "used" as overseers. Throuout my nearly 60 yrs in the borg I saw countless cringeworthy appointments so like Blondie, I wasn't that impressed. Nepotism reigns supreme which is why totally ADD couldn't KEEP from being appointed and neverendingjourney was passed over. That, and the fact that if a Bro. seems like he will be better at the job than the ones doing the appointing, no one wants to hire their replacement or one who makes them look bad. (No disrespect totally ADD, I'm sure you were simply "walking the walk") Oh, and jealous of pioneer? Are you kidding me? It's the worst job there is!

  So I'm going through a really difficult time right now.

  i was publicly reproved last year and the elders have taken their sweet time in reinstating my "privileges".

  it's been six months and i can't answer at the meetings or participate in the theocratic ministry school.

  in all honesty- i don't care about the privileges.

  I like DOC's story about the elder who put the other pervy elder in his place. When I was 18 my husband and I had moved far away from our parents in order to help my newly widowed mom manage some apartments she had inherited. It would have been the perfect time to fade but instead, we threw ourselves deeper into the cult. One month most all the married sisters signed up to "temperary pioneer" as it was called then. I desperately wanted to fit in so I signed up too. I was crushed when the overseer took me in the infamous back room to tell me I wouldn't be allowed to unless I wore longer skirts. This was a joke because I was skinny girl whose skirts touched the middle of my knee! We soon moved away from that congregation and found out later that the married with children, 40 something yo dude that counciled me had been DF'd for having an affair with a 23yo pioneer sister in our same hall!!! There's usually something fishy about older dudes who council young sisters about their dress. Especially when they dont't talk to the husband/father/mother first.

  Hi Scared, Welcome!! I understand your frustration. My parents were very hard line JW's. The only way to please them was to do well in the "truth". My dad died early in my last year of HS which left me alone in the house with my mother. Although I was never put on restrictions. I could have if I had been found out. I made the mistake of marrying at 17 to escape the stranglehold of my mother and the overseers at the KH. I ignored my studies and wasted my last year at school. Please be smarter than I. Apply yourself at school and brainstorm with your councilor on ways to attend college like scholorships etc. See if partime work is available. It might take your mind off things and show your mom you have inititiave. Like others have said make a real plan to save enough money to move out. If possible, pick a time when you and your mom are having a pleasant convo to confide how much more meaningful the meetings would be for you without the restrictions but don't ask for them back anymore. Let the elders look like jerks for being so unmerciful! Don't express your doubts anywhere but here- it will make things worse. Hope this helps.

  Sorry I can't make paragraphs so here is another account. A close friend of mine was a little born in JW boy during those same war years. He recently related to me what he personally witnessed. One Sunday while the witnesses were having their meeting in a rented building in Klamouth Falls Ore. a flashmob showed up. The entrance to the building had one of those long wooden crossbars. When the brothers heard the angry shouts outside they quickly latched it and started to DISMANTLE the wooden benches they had been sitting on in order to make CLUBS for EACH of the brothers. My friend was terrified as he saw the door repetedly buckle as the mob used part of a telephone pole for a battering ram. Somehow they didn't break the door and eventually left. Of course, the cong thought Jehovah had saved them. The point though, is JW's were ready and willing to arm themselves with WHATEVER was available. There was no debate, no hesitation. It wasn't until realatively recently that self defense was even questioned.

  Just to lend support to the fact that the WTBT$ not only left self defense issues up to the individual concience, but prepared themselves for confrontation. I have two firsthand accounts. As most of us know, in the WWII years J Rutherford had purposely incited hatred for JW's by his articles, speeches and prohibition of ANY service in the military. Not to mention the lambasting of any and all religion- especially RC. He then could use persecution as being evidence of being "true Christians". During those turbulant years my father was a "Company Servant" and special Pioneer who drove a "Sound Car" blasting the Judges bombastic sermons in residential neighborhoods. Nils Jansma's father related to him that my dad was given a baseball bat to cary with him in the car to be used should trouble arise. Dad asked the brother in charge "HOW HARD SHOULD I HIT SOMEONE? Do I hit to KILL or just wound? The answer? "Use YOUR best judgement". Sure enough a man attacked my dad. I'll bet he was surprised when he got wholloped with the bat. The man took off after the beating. Nills said I guess **** decided not to kill him! LOL

  i for one was so disappointed at the smallness of it.

  i guess i bought the hype that when they said "big", they meant it.. .
