I was thinking along the lines of Outlaw when I read this post. My definition of fighting against the WBT$ might be different than someone elses. Simply helping a JW to think by asking a single well thought out question is more effective than a hundred protesters at a convention. Using confrontational language to a dub is counterproductive and plays into their notion of apostates being dangerous.

WHY are Watchtower leaders OBSCURANTIST and how can we fight them effectively?
by Terry into read and understand this topic you will need to know two things.. following my telling you these two things you'll need to sit and think about them before you react and respond.. ************.
1. understand what obscurantists are and what they do and why .. 2. decide if want to be effective in refraiming your identity (the label given to you) as an ex-jehovah's witness in fighting them.
watchtower society obscurantist leaders.

Let's Say 1914 Was The Establishment of God's Kingdom....what is the significance?
by minimus inas hillary clinton might say, what difference does it make???.
even if god's kingdom was established in 1914, why is that such a big deal?
other than unprovable actions in heaven, what can jws say is the significance of it all...with a straight face?.

A question for my friends in the USA about cowboys.
by punkofnice inas a kid growing up in the uk we used to play 'cowboys and indians' and watch high chaparal and bonanza along with other cowboy films.
later, in the 70's kung fu would be shown with caine going through the 'old west'.
we even had a chocolate bar that was marketed with a 'cowboy' theme...milky bar.. as far as i know the 'wild west' as shown on tvdidn't actually exist.. are there people that believe it did?.

I get a kick out of the fact that my grandma (who died before I was born) was a Russellite cowgirl. In the 1910's the family had a car but there weren't many roads so she did the "Witness work" all decked out with her middy dress, duster and big black hat on horseback. No gun-totin' for grandma, she strapped on her bookbag instead. The sisters' "car group" was a line-up of decked out gals on horses! LOL The pic are in storage. Some day I will try to post them.

I never shared my California heritage with JW's so I can tell you about it now. My paternal grandmother was the great grandaughter of William B Ide who was an Eastern college educated well-to-do attorney who with his wife came to Cali in the early 1840's shortly before the gold rush. They had everything going for them. Why leave their lifestyle to come out West? Hubby quips, "Probably to get away from their relatives." Who knows? That's as good a reason as any. Ide was elected the 1st and only president of the "Bear Flag Republic".They fought "Indians", Mexicans, Spaniards. His is quite a story. He and his offspring were cattle ranchers in Northern Cali. and so my dad, the firstborn son, was a "born in" cowboy. Grandma became an IBSA and exposed her children to the beliefs. My dad HATED being a cowboy and left home in the 1920's for college and never did ranchwork again. He loved to watch TV Westerns and point out where they were incorrect. He liked the show "Rawhide" staring a young Clint Eastwood.

Four Levels of Shunning
by Londo111 inremember: the word shun means to avoid, especially persistently.. level 1. official watchtower policy makes extreme shunning mandatory for those disfellowshipped or disassociated.
there are, of course, two loopholes:.
(1) one is not shunned if living in the same household...but this works as long as one is not kicked out of their own home (like raypublisher was) or if the jw decide to leave as a consequence.. (2) one may do necessary family business..but this is open to interpretation and obviously relations are very uncomfortable and strained.. but for those two loopholes, a jw may not speak to the person shunned, not even to say hello.

Lets not forget "Public Reproof" where an announcement is read from the platform: "The matter concerning So and So has been handled and he/she has shown repentance." How mortifying is that for a person? Usually the "friends" don't socialize with that one for a while. That's why in the old days they called it "Probation" and those poor souls were given a VERY wide berth.

Terribly sad story. I agree with Hoser 100%. I know a similar situation where the parents all but forced their sensitive son into Beth-Hell in the mid 1960's. He couldn't take it and came home. The mother was surly and rude, the sister was a stuck-up snot, and the father was a prominate overseer who made his son feel like a failure. His girlfriend became a close friend of mine. The family didn't want him to marry his true love because she came from a "weak" family. It was all too much for beautiful Loren Council. He took a gun, put it in his mouth and ended it all.

Something else, if you both were JW's when you married, the wedding talk will have emphasised the 3fold cord. That your marriage itself must "have Jehovah in it" to succeed. Of course, having Jehovah in your marriage to her means you are "taking the lead" in all the activities JW. She is bombarded with these ideas. These ideas destroy families.
