How good a boxer was Muhammad Ali?

he was a great athlete, with a one-of-a-kind style who made a stand for his beliefs.. now that i'm older, i admire athletes that are quieter and get on with the job in hand - joe frazier, for example.. i'd like to put american racial politics and ali's tragic current condition to one side and focus on the following:.

My dad like to watch boxing on TV and I have some decent memories of the two of us watching Cassius Clay whoop his opponants at the 1960 Olimpics. Muhammad Ali was such a provocitive and colorful person OUT of the ring it made me want to see if he could live up to all his bravado IN it. I became a fan because he put his personality into his fights. I was used to seeing heavyweight fighters slug it out flatfooted and as a little girl I found it boring and brutal. Along comes MA dancing, doging, rop-a-doping, and wow, I couldn't take my eyes off him.

Welcome WideAwake7, Congratulations on getting yourself and your family out! Balaamsass is my husband. We have found in social situations that the witnesses who you liked and liked you will be warm and friendly. The ones that are self-rightous or annoying tend to be the ones who want to hear how miserable you are since you left the "troof" These are the ones you want to ask embarassing questions about them or their family. Example: Hows Susie? Is she still living with that guy? How's your wife? Is she still suffering from depression? How's the So and Sos (a JW couple involved in a scandal) are they still married? I heard she took off with that pioneer guy. etc etc. Make THEM uncomfortable and YOU have a great time!

Not only does every congregation have these classes, there are sub-classes for some as well. I was born into #1 BUT my mother was an introvert who kept to herself and often worked alone in FS. She knew nothing about what was really going on in the cong. and didn't care. I was a good kid because I had to be or else the physical and verbal abuse would rear it's ugly head.I readily admit there were HUGE perks being #1 and #2. (hey thats funny!) Socially it is wonderful and definately the best part of being a dub. If you have money it's even better! My parents wined and dined CO's DO's and top brass at bethel. I have also been #5 and #7. Those ## suck.

children 1941page 281 "no children were taken onto noah's ark...it is proper to wait until after armagedon to have children...its only afew more years till armagedon..." the book concluded.
"(john and his girlfriend talk) ...armagedon is surely near our hope is within afew years our marriage will be consumated and we will have sweet children...we will defer marriage and pioneer ...we will not see each other for a time.." thats why i dont have kids it all started with this fools book!.

Dagney, (waves back), I remember all those talks and articles from the 70's and later discouraging childbearing. Thankfully, most of the dubs ignored the councel and are now enjoying their grandchildren. Others though, are now facing old age childless, alone and bitter about being "faithful in what is least" to men who hate women and children and now it is too late.

new assembly experience... what do you reckon to this one?
by purrpurr inok so aparently there was this young girl who wanted to study with the jw's because she loved the bible so much.
she asked her fathers permission but he refused, after much nagging though he said she could have a study if she was prepared to have one of her fingers chopped off.
he thought the is would stop her but she was willing so he got a knife and cut off one of her fingers... a little while later she wanted to attend the meetings and he said no and again when nagged said she could attend meetings if she had another finger chopped off so she agreed and he chopped off a second finger.

The last regular meeting i attended the CO rambled on about a 13 year old girl whose parents and village were opposed to her studying with the JW's. He enthusiastically described in detail how her family and neighbors took turns torturing her. At first I squirmed in my seat, then I started to cry, after I could stand no more I stood up in the middle of his sentence, noisily grabbed my belongings and walked out the door. A couple of brothers saw me crying but didn't ask why so I hissed, "I don't find child abuse encouraging!" I have not set foot in a KH since and never will. What kind of sicko wants to hear these stories???? (true or not)

Dagney, . "Appearently" what was in Rutherfraud's mind when forbiding/discouraging having children was how much more helpful to the Borg Bible students/JW's could be pioneering instead of having children. Example, my parents. They sinned and had one child, but during the 9 years of pioneering w/o a child they converted more than a dozen individuals. Do the math. That's how a few grew to be many at first. Then when the base was big enough (late 70's) then children were welcome. (sort of)

Witness007, Not only was every kid under 18 given a free book, they were asked to get out of their seats and come up to the stage and get their copy while everyone else watched. Why? To start the indoctrination young enough to hook them for life. Rutherfraud and his cronies wanted the younger generation of dubs to do the heavy lifting by pioneering which involved spending at least 100 hrs in the minestry. Having children makes old fashioned pioneering next to impossible, therefore, it was discouraged at best, forbidden at worst.
