All of you whose children refuse to speak to them: ((((((hugs))))))) This is an indescribable pain like no other. I have some irony for you though: When I was a true believer, my teenage kids chose to live with their DFed father who wanted nothing to do with JWs. They lived 10 hr drive from me. I called, wrote, begged, for visits.... Nothing. They were having too much fun to want anything to do with me and my JW lifestyle. I was completely devistated. Heartbroken. I saw them only 3 times in 4 years. Then they left their fathers home, went to college, and decided to (wait for it) become JWs!!! I was extactic. Then Son had a tragic accident, died before baptism, daughter gets baptized, father dies, daughter leaves borg. Mom and elder hubby #2 wake up, daughter and mom united FOREVER.
Moral: Nothing with children is permanant. They are works in progress. Also, anyone can change under the right circumstances. If I can after 60 yrs ANYONE can. The future is uncertain, enjoy what you have today!

Divine Flan of the Ages - Recipes for Disaster [with thanks to Punk of Nice!]
by ziddina incrap..... now i can't think of anything... .
uh, wait a sec..... take one young upstart greenhorn clothing store magnate who reads the bible and has tons of arrogance and self-righteousness.. marinate him in a "doomsday" atmosphere, such as a "second-day adventist" environment, until he's thoroughly loopy.... carefully extract him from that stew and place him carefully in a special echo-box surrounded by yes-men,.
throw in a few "end-times" dates, and let the whole mix simmer, occasionally adding a few suckers - er, followers, until the end time runs out - er, the timer runs out..... let him stew in his own juices, exposing him to a hot kitchen warmer as the embarrassment of his false predictions puts heat on him.... then bake in an oven of heated public opinion, due to his scandalous behavior towards an underage girl and his very public divorce.. serve with half-truths and contradictions.... next up - baked rutherford steeped in whiskey - gin - wine - beer - and whatever else you've got, that's alcoholic!!.

LOL Rebel8 I believe every word of your story. Been there, done that, too, except for the napkin headcovering. Our hall kept a hidious looking ladies hat in the back room but a greasy napkin would have been more attractive.

Reading COC took my out of focus doubts and clarified things into a sharp picture. Reading that book changed my life and that of my husband. I don't know how any honest hearted JW could read that book and still belive the WTS is Gods organization.

Absolutely! I will have my 1st birthday in about 3 weeks. No one except my husband and daughter will acknowledge the 60 years I've spent on the earth. I will never get those years back but at least I've found a group who understands the sadness and regret I feel.

Rutherford era, view of marriage not sacred cuz Superior Authorities said so
by FatFreek 2005 inseveral days ago a poster cited the fact that rutherford had several women (though not at the same time) living with him at beth sarim.
that it was well known and winked at during those years.
that his view -- and the view of bible students of that time -- of marriage was negative because the superior authorities were in charge.

My parents were married in the mid 40's. They were both reg pioneers. ON their wedding day they put on their service clothes, went to the justice of the peace, got married without any friends or family present, had lunch, made some "back calls" and showed up for a study they had with an elderly lady. The lady sent them home when she found out it was their wedding day!
Like BOTR' parents there were no rings exchanged. After a number of incidents with men "hitting" on my mother my dad bought her a wedding band. After Knorr married, mom received a diamond ring.
After 9 yr of contunious pioneering and special pioneering, mom wanted a child. When the "friends" learned she was expecting, she got many snide comments. For quite some time I was the only young child in our cong. I was the only Witness in the various schools I attended until 7th grade.

The fear for me is pain and isolation that often is associated with death and the sadness that life is so short.

FatFreek, I'm so sorry for your pain. There is no pain like what your beloved child can inflict.

Why are JW's so boring?
by howdidtihappen ini hung out with a group of jw's the other night for the first time outside going to kingdom hall, and the conversation was seriously limited.
do jw's just not want to talk about anything that regular people with a clue about something in the world get together to talk about, or are they really that boring due to the brainwashing?
it was astonishing.
