when i was a kid....i used to look at the wt illustrations of paradise conditions and would day dream about life in the new system....i later used this same technique (shame on me) to brain wash bible students.
however...as i grew up lol (apparently!
) the illustrations changed....and became more modern.
The black brother in the last picture is clearly safety conscious with his hard hat and NECKTIE????? Suit pants too. Great choice to wear at a construction site. Really???
perhaps we could post the pictures the wt have presented in their literature that depict their version of paradise here for comment/discussion:.
from: spirits of the dead—can they help you or harm you?
do they really exist?.
Apparently, in 1958 men at an outdoor gathering could wear T shirts and shorts or go around shirtless with a towel around their waist.
Decades later they wear nothing but button down shirts and chinos like they are visiting Bethel, even the little boys! Who, prey tell, does all that washing and ironing??
the last assembly i attended was over 10 years ago.
the monotone speakers, boring talks, uncomfortable seats, long prayers and nodding off after the lunch break did me in.
i survived the morning sessions, but the afternoon sessions were brutal.
My parents and I were also at the 1963 Pasadena Convention. It was also Huge
I have to agree with the poster who asked why they needed 8 days to get their points across. I'm beginning to think WTC got some kind of kickback from the hotels/motels per day. The longer the "friends" had to stay, the more $$$ came back to WTBT$.

Oh Dagney! Are you cute or what? Somewhere I have a picture of my mother and 6yo me at the same "Devine Will" International convention. It was the ONLY one held that year in the entire US.
My father was the Assistant Cafeteria Servant to Nickolas Kovalak at the Polo Grounds which held the slightly smaller group than Yankee Stadium. (over 250,000 total) No wonder I remember being terrified of becoming separated from my mother and smothered by the enormous crowds.
My parents and I had to arrive 2 weeks early so Dad and Kovalak could direct the set up preparations to feed hundreds of thousands of people! Dad had to arrive Each day before they served breakfast and stay very late into each night-8 days. He was in the cafeteria area the whole time, never sat with us and never heard a word of the program. So over a 6,000 mile drive and a 3 week stay to work 15+hrs a day for free.
He bought clip on backs for the bleachers and a couple of umbrellas but No cooler or water. And don't get me started about the line to the ladies room with the size of that crowd. I still remember almost wetting my pants.
this morning i was in our front yard sitting down pulling weeds when i saw 3 people slowly walking on the sidewalk in my direction.
2 of them were young, handsome, clean shaven, wearing nice crisp white shirts and perfectly tailored black slacks.
they could have been mormons except.... there was a 60ish portly woman wearing a frumpy dress and ugly sandals.
Something else I want to clear up:
This sister was clean, wore tasteful makeup, and a decent hairstyle. She was no slob. Her dress was clean and neat but it was an unflattering style with an elasticised waist. The large floral print was dated and made her look older than I think she is. That's why I called it frumpy.
There was no reason for her to receive counsel from the elders. All she needs is a Makeover from ME. LOLOL

NotFormer, I agree that "you never know"what might hit with a JW.
I also think it is important to "read" the JW. If they seem smug or happy leave them alone.

Beth: I absolutely agree. There are no shortcuts- no one can do the work for anyone else. The info is everywhere yet most dubs are too lazy or too afraid to look at the evidence. (The systematic conditioning from the cult you spoke of)
Still, sometimes a question can be posed that can cause a "Honest Hearted" JW to google. If they already have a doubt or something just doesn't sit right, they might look it up -even if it's just to try to prove it wrong. That's what happened to me so I figure it could happen again.

Beth: It's true JWs are programmed not to wake up. Yet, This board and all the other exJW sites are FULL of people who DID wake up. After all, we did.
However, it takes something or someone to spark enough anger or curiosity to honestly examine their own religion.
Life changes. Circumstances change, People change, and most of all the Borg is constantly changing their minds. So never say never.
