  I sent postcards to some JWs at my old KH today.

  you know the typicial big postcards that we floridians like to send to folks up north in the winter- palm trees, beaches, girls in bikinis--.

  i haven't talked to these two brothers since when i left the kh (in 1988).

  i just wanted them to know i turned out better than fine, with a nice retirement and a new family.

  nice to meet you all.

  long time lurker, but now i can get my twopenneth in.. a brief history.. born into the religion, but it never really took hold - thankful for an easily bored mind and strong, worldly grandparents.. never very interested - dragged from meeting to field service.

  in the teenage years i wanted university and my parents want a pioneer.

  Love this thread!

  In 2008 Michigan past their medical marijuana law, and in 2013 are now considering recreational use as ok just like WA and CO. I grew up thinking that mj was so bad that I would not even entertain the idea of using it; and I still have some bias and sterotypes in my head about it put there by our political system. However as my youngest son started college in 2010 my views started to change and reluctently I got legal to use introduced it to my son. Having your youngest go to college on the far side of the state is difficult for a mom like me, but I never regret introducing MJ to my son. On his college campus alone 2 have died from alcohol poisening, two from using fake MJ, one from oxy overdose, and I can't even begin to count the number of MIPs, DUIs. No one has ever died from MJ. Also MJ users do not start fights or do stupid things like alcohol users. I worked 10 years in a metro Detroit ER and NEVER did I see anyone come in for an issue related to MJ except for once. A young mother was at her sister's playing cards and smoking MJ. She put her 8 month old baby in a playpin and somehow the baby got his coat over his mouth and smothered to death. Very sad. Had the mother not be using, perhaps she would have been more attentive to her child. With that said, it should be a truism to never use anything, alcohol, drugs, natural or otherwise, when responsible for the care of anyone else.

  I know exactly what I would have done differently. Instead of Da myself, I would have torched the KH first..... smile.

  CRAZINESS!!! I'M BEING 'MARKED' FOR GOING TO COLLEGE!!!

  ohmygosh!!!

  one of my friends who is a ms told me today that the elders have 'marked' me because i'm a reg.pioneer and i've decided to go to college next semester???!

  he said he can't tell me anymore but to be careful---what the hell does 'mark' mean?

  They "Marked" me when I was a pre-teen because I took ice skating lessons. Never missed a meeting, FS every Saturday morning. Oh ice skating was OK until I got good at it....like winning competitions good. Never mind I never did drugs, did not smoke, had no time for boys (coach would not allow it). I skated before and after school M-F. When I was 17 I qualified for nationals and I stood a very good chance of the top 6 spots. Just before the competition, I got called in the back room. They said they would have to disfellowship me if I participated in nationals because I was setting a wrong message to other JW children.

  sorry i've not posted for a while.

  i find that from time to time life catches up with me, and i get distracted - temporarily losing all interest in things jw-related.

  i suppose that in itself is a healthy thing?!

  "The Live Forever" book vintage?????? Gosh do I ever feel old now! Vintage to me is that "Paridise Lost, Paridise Regained" book. It was larger and sort of a melon color. It had the most grosses pictures, and no child should ever have to view them much less studing it. Any one else remember that horrifing book? The picture of the little girl and her tricycle falling in the gape of a earthquake is STILL in my head. As a grandmother now, I would never permit my grandchildren to view a book such as that!

  How did it feel to be loved by True Christians at the Kingdom Hall?

  the love practiced by those in the kingdom hall, how can we describe it?

  there are so many (yeah, there are quite a few who have intense hatred and not love.

  ) witnesses who hate each other, families who call down evil on each other, they wish their mother, father, brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, grandkids, nephews, nieces were dead.

  "Once Beauitful religion"?

  I was raised in that crazy cult, left when I was 24, now 52. There is NOTHING beauitful about it. Worshiping proper never occurs in a KH, it is all study, study, study, nod, smile, nod, smile and nod again. And if you happen to just take a pen to whatever it is they are studing, and blindly underline ANYTHING..your a "good" JW. They are soooo sooo empty of what Christ gave; a sence of connectedness with him. Sorry magizines and books don't do it. After I stated to attend a proper church, and there are many out there, I knew what it meant to have the Holy Spirit touch you. It is an experience that can never happen in a KH when everyones' nose is stuck in a book.

  so i had my second random jw visit since i left.

  the last time i was sick and couldn't really talk back but i was pleasant enough.

  i took the magazines, but they never returned.. attempt #2: a father with his poor miserable looking son.

  Oh my do you people bring back memories..and I've been out since 1986! I used to insist on going door to door alone because I would pretend to ring the doorbell, stick something in the door and call it a not at home.
