Slimboyfat - I've heard that before about ending the group study because of high fuel prices, is there a quote on that? Just curious.

"We needed to use the library"... and other wacky Watchtower excuses.
by cedars ini'm sure we're all familiar with the crazy excuse that the watch tower society leadership came up with to justify their nine year period as a un ngo (non governmental organization).
amazingly, this seems to make perfect sense with watch tower apologists, who don't stop for a moment to ponder the following:.
you don't need to be a un ngo to use the un libraryif it was so innocent for them to hold un ngo status just to use the library, why did they withdraw their status when the issue received media attention?that aside, we are now witnessing the unravelling of fresh scandals to hit the society, most notably:.

Foolproof Dating Tip for Men
by MeanMrMustard ini am prompted to impart this piece of priceless information upon all men, due to the number of dating topics posted lately.. some women like to size you up by the animals you like.
if given the choice among animals, choose the cutest one.
it doesn't matter that you hate them.

Any actual Witnesses here?
by trthskr ini found this site hoping to read topics submitted by jw's so i could learn more, but it just seems to be everyone else here except them.
just about every topic and member is just bashing jw's and their teachings.
this site should be renamed "jwbashertrolls.net".

' The 1975 thing was just a rumor started by a congregant and not even sanctioned by the GB.'
That's the best one yet.
And, if like you said that you only read their printed material, that you are in fact not a witness, can you tell us where exactly you read that quote about 1975 please? Page/title/publication date will be just fine. Thanks in advance.

Well, the pdf of the March 2012 WT is hot off the press!
by serenitynow! inand it does not disappoint.
the first century brothers are on the cover, going door to door with what look like leather messenger bags.. the first article is entitled, are all "christians" christian.
and you can tell by the picture that anyone with a beard or goatee is definitely not a real christian.. the next article, remain in my word has this quote that condemns catholics but seems eerily close to what jws believe:.

FOUR DAYS LEFT to have your say in the 2011 survey!!
by cedars insorry to be an absolute pain with this, but i'm sure you realise that there are many lurkers on this forum who will be unaware of the global survey, which slams shut at midnight on new year's eve.. so, if you're visiting this forum for the first time, and haven't yet voiced your opinion on the jw global survey, please click here!.
some stats for those who are interested:.
so far over 1,038 have participated.. 49% of voters are either active or inactive jehovah's witnesses.. the most contentious teaching of the governing body remains their reasoning surrounding higher education, with 95% objecting to this.. the society's shunning policy still holds second place with 91% of votes.. .

I cannot believe my father called me to ask this!
by serenitynow! inso my father, a jw bum who abandoned us when we were children to be with his pioneer whore, called me tonight and left a message.
this is surprising because i have not seen or spoken to him for a couple of years, other than to leave a message a couple of weeks ago to tell him that i had to hospitalize my sister for being suicidal.. i found out about a week ago that one of his very good friends, a brother whose family used to go to the hall with us and used to be close to when we were children is dying in the hospital after having a couple of strokes and a heart attack.
they've been talking about taking him off of the ventilator for a few days.

Its so sad, I can't imagine ANY situation that would stop me being there for my daughter.
I think you did the right thing, don't feel bad, just live your life.
My JW (at the time, she had an affair with someone at work) mother was gone when I was growing up, and even though I live about a 3 or 4 minute drive from her, I never see her and couldn't care less.
My wonderful father all the same, that's different, he phoned me last night and asked me down for Christmas dinner today, wonderful man whose kids come first in his life, always have and always will. This will more or less be the first family Christmas for me in 25 years, I'm nervous.
I count myself lucky to have a Dad like that, my birth mother might well be a selfish auld cow but I'm lucky my Dad isn't.

The Watchtower is NOT a false prophet
by The Quiet One inregarding what some have said here about the wt being a false prophet.. i would like to make my point regarding the wt not being a false prophet... so please, if you can be patient enough to read this, at least try to understand what i am getting at.. a false prophet is one who, according to deuteronomy, makes a false prediction of the future and claims that the prediction came from god, or in other words claiming that 'god has said he will do a certain thing at a certain time' etc.. for example, hypothetically speaking, if someone had claimed: "god will bring about the end of the world in 2010", they would have been proven to be a false prophet, obviously.
but, as an example, imagine a man who claimed the position of a prophet of god, (as moses did, because although he was not the type of prophet that predicted the future.. he was still a prophet or spokesman for god) and that he had publicised worldwide, according to his interpretation of a (for example) prophecy found in the book of isaiah, that the world would end in 2010.. and he had also stated that he was not saying that god will end the world in that year.. but only that there was biblical evidence that god might do so.
that would clearly have been a mistake.

The quiet one - 'i won't be wasting any more time on this' that's such a shame because it's a life and death matter according to JWs, I'd say it's anything but a waste of time talking about it.
I can understand why you are putting a side, not so much your own personal view, but the GBs view over, simply because what you have been taught, the fact of the matter is you don't have confidence in that teaching, even though you are arguing a case, it's a case you are not firmly convinced with.
Unbelieveably, as I was typing this, the JWs came to my door, only the 2nd time in nearly 6 years.

I'd be interested in knowing how many people are still alive today who were born in 1899 (going on the being old enough, 15, to understand the sign)
They'd be 112, going on 113.
Quiet One - do you wholeheartedly believe in the new, over lapping generation understanding? Just a yes or a no would be lovely.
