A witness charity benefit?
by NoRegrets inanyone here ever try to host a small benefit-type gathering for a witness in need?
my wife's aunt and uncle fell on hard times and someone decided to have a gathering where everyone brought a little food and then could give them a little money if wanted.
it was all pretty informal and unofficial but for some reason their son contacted the co to make sure it was okay to do something a little unconventional.

" Have in mind, too, that sometimes what may do the most good is something other than money. Jesus told his followers to “go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’ . . . You received free, give free.” (Matthew 10:7, 8) Similarly today, Christians realize that the time, energy, and money spent in supporting Kingdom witnessing—which improves lives and gives hope—is charitable giving of the best kind" 6/8/93 Awake

Is there some specific counsel about this? How outrageous! Is the reasoning that the WT wants every spare nickel kicked back to them and only them?

Lark Vhoories (spelling?) aka Lisa on Saved By the Bell. She was a soap star later in her career and I think quit her show or wouldn't do certain types of scenes (lovin') due to religious reasons.

Born ins..Were You Forced to Be a JW Growing Up?

I went to view the PDF of this entire article and am still amazed at the circular logic the WT uses. On page 19 they state that it is a myth that JW kids are forced to be members but by page 21 they say this:
"The book Questions Young People Ask—Answers
That Work, Volume 1, states: “As long
as your adolescent lives under your roof, you
have the right to require compliance with a
spiritual routine."All I can say is WOW!!!
BTW I was completely forced to be a JW as a child and even as an adult was blackmailed to stay in or lose all family and friends that I grew up with! Eventually I had to make the sacrifice and leave completely, but it wasn't remotely the simple and easy choice the WT makes it seem. The choice is basically stay or we'll kill you! (Figuratively kill you, but not an exaggeration as your entire history is basically erased with a wave of their hand....)

Lack of Elders in your hall?
by stuckinamovement inthere is an upcoming study article trying to encourage men to reach out.
in my cong there are more former elders and servants than current ones.
i was looking around the other day during a meeting and could only spot one young guy who is reaching out to be an ms. the 5 elders are now running mics.

There was real irony in the hall we were last affiliated with. Our hall housed 3 congregations; 2 English and 1 Spanish congregation. Despite all of the supposed tremendous growth in the Spanish speaking territories, our English congregation was in greater need. So, we had two MS's that were actually transferred IN from the Spanish congo! They didn't even speak very fluent English! We were deep into fading and I immediately took note at what a bad indicator that was for the entire org! They were immediately put to work in several departments and doing more menial duties!

I remember seeing this broadcast. I simply love Bill Maher! He gets it right most of the time and even when he doesn't I think he's very funny!
