There Are Many New Ones Here. Has JWN Helped You?
by minimus ini think simon green's site has helped more people than he ever would have imagined!
do you agree??
?.

I agree that it has helped and provided me with some cathartic moments. I sometimes fear that I will be hung up on being an ex-witness for life and don't want it to define me. However, I know that I am an ex-witness for life and NO ONE can really understand and empathize for what we've been through like a group of ex-witnesses. I viewed this board for several years before actually creating an account and starting to post not quite a year ago. I posted a lot early on to vent and unload to very kind and listening people. Now, I rarely post but visit this site daily and use it as a great resource to find out what my family who remain JWs are going through. I do appreciate the opportunity and think this site is the best place to get news and a little friendly discussion! NR

Have you met anyone on the Governing Body?
by Christ Alone ini posted on another thread about a couple of my experiences of meeting the governing body while i was in brooklyn.
i wanted to see if anyone else had any experiences along these same lines.
i met most of the ones that were current during the 2001-2003 years.

Lyman Swingle came to our small town rural circuit assembly in the late 90's. My brother was charged with escorting him around the site by the assembly coordinator (chairman). They wandered around and basically my brother was to help him around and keep him out of trouble in his old age. When my brother started to follow him into the bathroom he said "I can go poop by myself"!

Mr. Coffee
by RayPublisher indoes anybody remember the old apostate guy they called mr. coffee?
back in the late 80s when i was at brooklyn he would dress in a suit, have a book bag, and come and stand in front of the 124 bldg or sometimes over by the towers hotel.
he'd easily put in auxillary pioneer hours.

I think our family visited Bethel in about 1991. I had an uncle that served there that was our tour guide. I was pretty young but I remember Mr. Coffee pretty distinctly. He had a fake newspaper article printed up and heralded: "Extra, Extra, Michael Jackson's family owns the Watchtower". Funny how I remember that but hardly a moment of the actual Bethel tours. I also remember spotting a window washer on a faraway tall building which annoyed my parents since I didn't really give a fig about MEPS or whatever their latest claim to fame was.

Marvelous handling of the situation! Keeping calm and being relaxed confuses them enough that you can get your message through their barriers! You just might have planted some successful seeds of doubt in the wife that could blossom!
We just moved into a new house and are eager to have a first visit at our doorstep. I hope I can conduct myself even half as well as you did!

Add your favorite JW prayer cliche'
by King Solomon inyou know what i'm talking about: the trite, often-repeated phrases that convey the person offering the prayer has drawn a mental blank, and utters these words while their brain desperately searches for the next cliche', so they can conclude the ritual with the required tag, "in jesus' name we pray".... (is that like the postage stamp?).
ok, i'll kick this one off, and take the most obvious:.
"forgive us where we fall short....".

My poor brother who is still stuck in used to always open his prayers with I started to dub "his prayer preamble". I started to mouth along with it and pointed it out to others for a laugh because it was word for word for a long time! It went:
"Our heavenly father, Jehovah in the heavens, we deem it a grand privilege to approach your throne of undeserved kindness in Jesus' Christ's name....etc." It's a wonder he didn't pass out from that long-winded intro!

Economic rationality, or how ideology has broken our economy.
by JonathanH inso i won't name where i work (some may already know) but since i decided to go to college i started working in at a retail chain so i could get flexible hours.
the pay is poor, and it is a pretty silly job, but it puts at least some money in my pocket while i work towards something better.
anyway, they recently made every one attend a big meeting where they rolled out the new "restructure" of the work force.

My wife and I both belong to unions and I feel lucky every day that we do! Aside from many other benefits (literal benefits and legal ones), we both lived in an area where unions were scarce. We moved to a larger metropolitan area where we could be in unions doing the SAME work. We make about 4 times more than we did being non-union! You can argue politics for and against unions all day long but that's the bottom line! The stagnant and/or falling wages of the American middle class are parallel to the decline of union membership!
You can also make the argument that unions cost American's jobs because they price us out of the market. I can attest that to be untrue! Perfectly profitable, union factories have been shuttered simply to squeeze a little more profit by moving things overseas.Greed is NOT good! The problem with that is then you have a poorer consumer class that can't afford your product!
Another thing that most unions due is literally help to create work for their members. I belong to a construction trade union and I know first-hand that the Local hits the brick hard with developers, sets up meetings, and does whatever it can to encourage projects to get off the ground! They also spend a lot of money to train us through an apprenticeship and with continuing education throughout our careers to help us be as valuable as possible!
