The "Theocratic" View
by Jigrigger inhow many of you ex-jws can recall a particular instance during your life as a jw when you or someone you know had a mini crisis of conscience over what you now, upon reflection, consider to be the most trivial or petty in nature?.
i've got a good one for you.
i remember my mom and one of my aunts engaged in a very serious debate about whether they should feed a freshly caught mouse to the cat because it hadn't been properly bled!!!.

Marley Cole, a Watchtower Stooge?
by JAVA inthanks to wasasister, i just received a copy of jehovah's witnesses, the new world society, by marley cole, vantage press, ny, 1955 printing date.
as some of you know, cole wrote this book under the pretence that he was only interested in writing about the jws, and didn't identify himself as a jw.
note what the jacket cover says about him:.

Funny story about VeniceIT
by Mulan inby popular demand, i am yielding to pressure, to tell a story about our very own veniceit.. in march, venice and her parents were visiting us here in washington state, and we all had dinner at our daughter's home one evening.
(my daughter posts here as princess) princess's son, 4 years old, was quite taken with venice and was showing her around the house.
he was going up the stairs ahead of her, and turned around, face first at her rather, ummm, er, ample?

JUSTICE #14 - Caring for the Needy - Not!
by Amazing incaring for the needy not!
when i first became a jw in the late 1960s and all the years thereafter, the watch tower society would frequently boast about the loving care and concern that jws show among themselves, providing for the needy during disasters, even helping the world.
the society would publish in the magazines, or comments at conventions about how the world observed our efficiency and overwhelming spirit of giving.. what about the rest of the year?

Request for Opinions
by patio34 ini requested that my sons (both jws) come to my home for a family meeting today.
had nothing to do with religion.
both of them know i don't go to meetings and that i have intellectual disagreement with wtbs.. son #2 said that before we begin the meeting, he would like to offer up prayer.

Standing for flag/anthem prohibition; new light...
by Skimmer inin recent years we have seen wtbts "new light" that has eliminated the prohibitions on alternative service, voting, and (perhaps) carrying certain types of identity cards.. given that the practices of standing for the national flag or standing during the playing of the national anthem have been condemned in print in the same paragraphs as the above mentioned new light, isn't it about time that standing for the flag/anthem will become a conscience matter?.
i would hope so, because not standing for these occasions is more than a little embarrassing for younger people still in school.
standing is merely a sign of respect and honor, and this is clearly allowed by scripture.
