Well, Dateline isn't bad. Also, I'm partial to pointing out that, at core, JWs teach that God is genocidal and will kill everyone who doesn't obey the Governing Body - put that baldly, some Witnesses will stop and think.

I don't think you can really support her - the potential for harm to your children is too great. I know this is pessimistic, but I'm in a similar situation and am finding no middle ground. JWs are really a pretty nasty cult under all the sweet talk and you have to think about your children.

This sure hits home, as my super-fine, faithful-witness wife is busily raising my children to stop acknowledging me. Thanks for posting Ozzie. I'm feeling rather bitter today and it helps to know others are dealing with broken family crap.

Patricia, for me, at least, the pain of realizing I had wasted much of my life made sticking around impossible. Also, my kids lives were at stake and I had to make a start on getting them out. What you are suggesting would be asking more than is reasonable, for very little gain.
OTOH, I do think people should DA, not let themselves be DF'd, whenever possible, to make a point to those who know them.

XENUS EVIL CULT.
by refiners fire ini look at his posting and his style of trying to slowly sneak his cult's theaching on to this board as deadly.. i take his attempt to draw just "one" person who may just be lurking and may be in an extremely vulnerable stage in their life very seriously.
that is why i make this post.
terrific.very noble.. just one thing, dave.. show me one example of xenu trying to recruit someone on this board to his cult.. i asked you before, but my request got buried under 10 million pages of bullshit.. my position is that you are publicly lynching this guy.. and hes done nothing.

LOL - gotta love it, RF is soliciting a solicitation. If he emails you, you have to be honest and let Dave know he tried!

The Annual ``Don't Misbehave'' at Asemblies'' KM
by Room 215 ingreetings from the ``here we go again'' department.
while worldlings have only the song of the robins and the bloom of the daffodils and crocuses as harbingers of spring, jehovah's people and readers of their literature can always count on two more: the annual ``don't partake!
'' article in the watchtower, and the yearly exhortation to ``make nice at the summer's assemblies'' in the km.. in the case of the latter, the tone and content of the annual scolding is unbelievably demeaning to any responsible adult... being told to dress nice (suits and ties only, please, for the men and deresses only -- not too short ladies) not to abuse complimentary breakfasts, pool privileges and generally avoid rowdiness at the hotels where they stay-- all laced with clearly fabricated -- not to mention unattributed-- quotes from ``worldly observers amazed by our fine conduct.''.

Funny stuff! But made me feel blue, because I can vividly remember giving this damn talk a couple of times, and getting all stern, and wondering out loud how long Jehovah would put up with this stiff-necked people...
God, I was such a frigging idjit...

By the pricking of my thumbs....
by Xander in...some ancient wisdom this way comes?
pulling over from another thread.... i'm curious how many have dabbled in witchcraft/spiritism after leaving the jws.
or, perhaps, before joining.. i'm curious what experiences have been had.

My two cents...
First of all, good thread! Interesting, reasonable posts, and with an ex-jw link in most posts. With all the flaming going on, it's nice to see a thread doing things right. Also, it makes me wonder if leaving JWs has a statistically significant link to interest in paganism.
Second, I've had a few interesting experiences: precognitive dreams, visualization that produced exactly the desired result, some accurate premonitions, and some highly useful/accurate tarot card readings (read the cards for myself). Nothing earthshaking, otoh I haven't put that much energy into it, what with being a JW.
Third, and last for now, I find the problem is not with the event, that is, not with what happens, but with the interpretation of the event. For example, people feel a presence, and decide it is a demon, or a ghost, or an alien, or Xenu... Why not just work with what happened? A presence was felt. Great. Was it useful? Scary? Can it be felt again? You get the idea - don't use the phenomena as proof of whatever you started out believing. In most cases, there is no way to prove anything.
Fourthly, and really last for now: all non-normal phenomena seems to hover on the edge of proof. There always seems to be just enough evidence to convince those with direct experience, but never enough to convince others. It's weird. Michael Crichton, in his book Travels suggested that such phenomena may be state-dependent, that is, dependent on the state of the experiencers, in much the same way that your experience of food depends on the state of your hunger. Made sense to me, and worth thinking about.

Farkel, I lurked for a long time, and your posts were something I always looked for, probably a reason I stayed with this board and eventually registered. Even if you become less regular here (which is certainly understandable) I hope you post occasionally. Thanks for much thought-provoking discussion.
