Locating Their Achilles Heel
by metatron inevidence is growing that the society now recognizes the grave.
danger of holding on to the blood doctrine and is quickly trying.
to 'fade it to black'.. it is likely that most witnesses will passively go along with this.

schaudenfreud
by metatron ini was trying to remember the correct german word for the state of attitude towards others.
that witnesses often show - i believe it is "schaudenfreud" - happiness felt when observing.

Wait on....
by Farkel innothing helps a religion weasel out of the hot seat better than a good arsenal of "back door" words.
the ultimate "back door" expression invented by the watchtower printing corporation is "wait on jehovah" and the purpose of this post is to examine that expression with a microscope.. this expression is always brought out and touted when things are totally screwed-up in watchtowerworld.
"we have a major problem with covering up and enabling pedophiles and expelling the children who are raped by them.

Thanks for the cogent reply, Fark. I guess a simple "Oral sex is good; go do some right now" was too much to hope for.

I know this is going to seem a little monomaniacal, but the only thing I really noticed in Farkel's post was his statement that oral sex had been "unbanned". Is this true? Does anyone have a publication and page I could look up? I, uh, have my reasons for needing to know.
thanks all

WTS changes to 1999 CD-ROM and past...
by peterstride inhey all,.
if anyone remembers off the top of their head about changes that the 1999 cd-rom from the wts had, vs past cd-roms and/or printed volumes from past awakes/watchtowers....please pass them on to me.. i'll be visiting a friend soon, overseas, that's a loyal jw... we've been talking a bit, and i perceive him to be open minded in that he'll listen to me to a certain extent.
as long as i can provide proof from the wts that they have changed things as their "trooth" changes, maybe he'll open up his mind a bit and realize what's going on.. he's already a bit upset with them, because right after he finished his jail term for refusing millitary service, the wts changed that policy.... cheers,.

Well, it's not exactly what you're looking for, but a good thing to do with the '99 CD is to look up a fellow named Greber (Charles, I think) who was cited as a source for two of the WS's stranger translation decisions, even though he was an admitted spiritist.
First, look him up via the indexes and look up all the references. The Society defense is that Greber's spiritism was made public long after the Society's use of his translations, and that they stopped referring to him as soon as they knew of it. Note the dates of all citations.
Then, look up Greber by means of the search function, which scans the whole CD. Two additional references are turned up. In them, the Society condemns Greber's spiritism before they ever use him to support their translations. Check the editions of Greber's work that is cited, which prove that the translators were using the edition that described Greber's spiritistic methods.
Also, no other evidence is given for one of the translation decisions.
I think this is a great exercise, not because of the spiritistic link (though that may impress your friend) but because of the hypocrisy and the clear evidence of the Society's willingness to disguise their own history (by not referencing all citations in the Index). Either they're hypocrites, or they're stupid, not having the ability to properly index their own "spiritual food from Jehovah".
Good luck.

Legal Question: How Strong is Barbara's Case?
by Room 215 ina question for the legal beagles out there:.
since the watchtower thugs have told the press during the dateline repartee that barbara anderson was not being taken to task for her anti-molestation iniitatives, but alleged that she was being tried for ``allegations or serious sins'' unrelated to her activism, how strong a case would she have in court?.
bear in mind that barbara and the others of the dateline four say they did nothing more than speak for the protection of children and then publicly challenged the wt to publicly state their accusations and evidence, and that they would indemnify them against any charges arising therefrom.. so.... if they call her a sinner, say that her sin has nothing to do with whistle-blowing and is serious enough to merit expulsion -- as serious as adultery or theft, yet refuse to accept her challenge to show the world the basis of their charges if they are held harmless, how is that not libel and therefore actionable?

The above is a link to an excellent article describing the incremental approach to suing Big Tobacco that eventually led to HUGE judgements, and how that logic is now being made to apply to fast food companies, successfully in some cases.
It certainly seems to me that the Society is a softer target than McDonald's.
Question: can a religious body be forced to turn over internal memos, files, etc.? Was the Catholic Church faced with this kind of request, and how'd they do if so?

Also, Metatron is perfectly right that the legal department can be swamped - or were some of you thinking that they God's Holy Spirit(tm) supporting them?
And they can't be particularly good at what they do - they're dumb enough to remain JWs, for one thing.

I agree with Alan & Farkel, this is a winnable case - but I differ from them on one point. I don't think libel is the weak point. I think this case is very like the recent successful lawsuits against tobacco companies and should be treated as such. Think about it. There is 1) a long history of people damage or killed (blood transfusion issues) 2) evidence of coverup (admittedly sparse, but real, and a couple of leaked memos would do wonders) 3) a wealthy target, liable to class action lawsuits, that suddenly appears to have real chinks in it's armor.
There are a lot of lawyers thoroughly schooled in the tobacco successes. They are looking for new targets, and the WS is looking soft and fat all of a sudden.
Anyone agree with me?

LSD saved me from the JWS
by space ini would like to know some personal experiences with dabbling with hallucigenic drugs as far as seeing a deeper level of conciosness than the one given to you by the jws.
when i left the jws i was about 17 and my father was one of the main elders.
so i had to watch my p's and q's so i wouldnt make my father look bad.

On the flip side, it was a bad acid trip that led more or less directly to my becoming a JW in the first place. But, I still have fond memories of my good trips.
