Furthermore, why is it for him to say that they'd be upset and numbed? Maybe Jehovah will have everybody resonating the deepest sense of fullfillment possible? No, it's just going to be like looking at a helicopter crash. You'd think that everybody would have such a nice glow about them knowing it was here and that they are going to make it! How excitin'! You'd think they'd be so happy they'd be trying not to have a poo.

2014 means nothing

i know there have been many comments over the recent past about 2014 being potentially a key point in time for the wts as it's 100 years since 1914 but my view is that it means absolutely nothing.. people are people and history shows the psychological hold that organisations like the wts has just carries on captivating people.

the org survived the 1975 debacle and they will potter on for years to come regardless of things like 100 years since 1914, especially since this is something the wts are simply not talking about.

it means nothing to anyone other than people looking for something to bash the wts with.. it's not mentioned in the literature and is unlikely to be anytime soon - why the heck would the wts want to remind people of the length of time?.

ugghh... the whole thing is so depressing. I remember before I left there was a single sister speaking in front of the PO's bookstudy about how they were never supposed to have done this and that [armageddon was supposed to happen long ago]... and the elder said... 'Oh well, at least we had fun' This is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? 'At least I don't have AIDS'... so woefully pathetic. I'm started to come around and see that 2014 isn't really going to be that big of deal. Though, yeah, the private thoughts of so many Jan 1st, 2015....

Odd KH Wedding

my youngest sister was married last sunday and i was actually invited.

not to the reception of course but all of us ex-jw relatives had our own party so it was still a great family reunion!

i'm one of 6 siblings (2 step siblings, 1 half, and 2 whole :-) anyway, this was not my first time going to a wedding of a sibling and being an ex-witness.

I remember for a while every time there was a witness wedding the number of bridesmaids went up to outdo the last one. I heard of a couple with eight.

We eloped. I wasn't baptized and we had no money. It worked good.

Also, Jehovah's people are the happiest people on earth! Don't you know that?

For a while we used to go 'in service' after a Tues or Thurs meeting and drop off mags like that at hotels, gas stations, etc... It was great. We got to put in some time with some people we actually liked and do nothing. Praise Jah!

good times we had when we were JWs

both my wife and i were talking about some of the good times we had when we were jw`s ......and we did have good times socialising ,going out for meals ,hotels ,/ wedding functions /,with groups on barbequres /,camping at national parks , and beaches ,/enjoying fellowship at one anothers house on many an occassion ,/video nights / thearter nights with who we thought were good freinds ,our children grew up with their children and vice versa .i was a ms my wife was a people person who liked to entertain at home and many people responded to that.and i would say that apart from the first 5 years of our involvement and discarding the last few years of our leaving their was at least 20 + years of our relationship with our brothers and sisters who we considered our intimate freinds.. once you leave the religion they dont want to know you ,i tried a couple of times with no response.. whatever happened to trying to get you going again ?

(not that we ever would but they dont know that )and no neither of us were disfellowshipped.

i just think it`s a pity that in their veiw freindship is conditional on staying with the organization.

I'll echo what Anne said. Overall the majority of times was painful socially. We were always on the fringe - and I'm so glad. For a while in our 20s the KH was just a place to meet up with friends and go dancing after. These are the times I remember with fondness. But that was the minor part of the picture.

she knows the religion is a lying, pedo-sheltering, man-made, self-serving institution and she's disgusted by the hypocrisy of the local brothers and sisters who treat her like a pariah because she's a disabled single mum whose 17 year old son has long hair and a beard.

oh and her jw parents are split up and have been inactive for years.

her kids have little interest in jws as none of the other jw kids ever want to associate with them and it's been that way for years.. so why is she still going to meetings when her disability allows her?!
