In a lighter vein, I remember giving a talk on one of the Psalms, focusing on how the power of Jehovah should be our strength. The Hebrew word for power was "uzza" or something to that effect. As a boy I loved all things to do with guns (before I became a Witness). I knew the Israelis had developed a stubby machine gun called the Uzzi. The gist of the talk was that they would be relying on the Uzzi to save them, while we should rely on the power of Jehovah to save us. I looked for a real Uzzi to demonstrate my talk, but I could not get my hands on one in time (my bother had one, but he was too far away). I had to use a poster of an Uzzi to get everyone's attention. Needless to say, my mother was very thankful that I could not get my hands on a real thing. Now that I look back, I was very normal as a young person, but not a good Witness at all. Yes, and I admit, I have a bad streak. I still think of what the effect would have been on the congregation, me standing on the stage facing the audience with an Uzzi in my hand.... Would they have ducked or would their faith in the resurrection have sustained them?

Why THAT talk? Why NOW?
by dubstepped inin another thread there's a discussion about how the show must go on and meetings weren't even slowed down by the deaths or medical emergencies of ones in the audience.
for instance, one young brother's unbelieving father was murdered locally.
not long afterward he's assigned a part on an assembly about the resurrection or something.

Bonsai, you don’t like that one? Try something that you can relate to, the art of bonsai:
“The purposes of bonsai are primarily contemplation (for the viewer) and the pleasant exercise of effort and ingenuity (for the grower). By contrast with other plant cultivation practices, bonsai is not intended for production of food or for medicine. The source specimen is shaped to be relatively small and to meet the aesthetic standards of bonsai. Instead, bonsai practice focuses on long-term cultivation and shaping of one or more small trees growing in a container. Bonsai does not require genetically dwarfed trees, but rather depends on growing small trees from regular stock and seeds. Bonsai uses cultivation techniques like pruning, root reduction, potting, defoliation, and grafting to produce small trees that mimic the shape and style of mature, full-size trees” (see Wiki).
You are the creator of the bonsai tree. If the tree does not come out to your satisfaction you either burn it, chuck it in the trash or you plant it out. In this case you do not flush it down the toilet. You’ll block the drains. By your absence or neglect, you can let it dry out and die. You, as creator of the bonsai, will eventually decide its fate.

Sometimes one needs to be cruel to be kind. Say one creates an ant farm to study an ant colony. In your colony you notice a group of marauder ants killing off their fellow ants and destroying their eggs. If you are interested in preserving your project, would you not be tempted to squash the marauder ants? Get rid of the marauder ants to save the normal ants. Sacrifice the one group in order for the other group to survive.

Heaven, here’s a few of the modern translations and their interpretation. Note also the context of the verse. God will indeed bring disaster on his enemies. The word would be the opposite of "peace."
Isaiah 45:1 Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed: (Isa. 45:1 ESV)
Isaiah 45:7 I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, who does all these things. (Isa. 45:7 ESV)
Isaiah 45:7 I am the one who forms light and creates darkness; the one who brings about peace and creates calamity. I am the LORD, who accomplishes all these things. (Isa. 45:7 NET)
Isaiah 45:7 I form light and create darkness, I make success and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things. (Isa. 45:7 CSBO)

Cofty, if you believe in evolution, you have nothing to fear, except perhaps meteorites, manmade and/or natural disasters. But if you believe in a creator, that puts a different spin on things. Then you belong to him and you accept and adapt to his terms.

I believe God will sound a clear warning before he does anything drastic like that. Not the type of warning the Witnesses give. Most of the world's population will never hear their message. So it would be grossly unfair for God to judge according to their message. If you read Revelation 11 you will see what I mean. However, after the two prophets had given their warning, it would be a good idea to make peace with God.

Cancer has been with us for a long time

Your question about the evolution of cancer is possibly the dumbest thing I have read on JWN since you accused scientists of being disciples of Dagon.
I find it interesting that you ridicule above notion. You are actually ridiculing the following scientist:
Therein lies a tantalizing mystery: In the time since that nameless unlucky soul got bone cancer, massive evolutionary changes have occurred. Things changed. Humans changed. Why didn't the cancer?
Scientists don't have the answer. "What we do have is that these types of cancers existed so many years ago, and we are seeing the same thing today." Odes said. "Normally, in an evolutionary biological situation, you'd see change." 1
1. Scientists find cancer in million-year-old fossil by AJ Willingham, CNN.
Are you talking about the sesamoid bones? Big difference between simian and human? And not something that will change without the help of the genetic engineers.
Sorry, you are forcing me to quote myself. Are you referring to the sesamoid bones?

WhatshallIcallmyself, I've been wondering the same thing. Isn't evolutionary change part and parcel of the evolution theory? Why would some life forms change and others stay the same for millions of years? That is the question.

Another thing, the cancerous growth in the bone is identical with those of today. According to the evolutionary theory, the simian changed and became human. Why did the cancer stay the same? The same goes for horseshoe crabs and the coelacanth. These also stayed the same for millions of years. They are called living fossils. No evolutionary change there, I'm afraid.
