So How Bad Is The World REALLY?

in the uk, if you drop a wallet in the road in error, what are the chances of it being handed in to a police station by the finder with all the contents still intact?.

when i read that in the times some weeks ago, i was very skeptical.

then i thought of all the people that i know, friends, aquaintances and pub pals, and i reckon that 90% of them are basically honest with their fellow man.

well here is how it looks to me.Globally, yes there are some awful things going on. But man has always warred with each other, however, now we have weapons of mass destruction. Plus we have the media to report it all to us. During 9-11 i thought i was going to die form media overload.

Ask a kid living in a crime ridden part of town if things are bad-u know it is. It's easy living in suburbary, or the country to miss crime. But it is still there. Just go into oak Cliff (a section of dallas) . it is not really safe to drive there in the day time- let alone night. Currently , live in a better part of dallas county, Much less visible crime here.A lot of people here in this area are heading north to get away form crime.

I think there are a lot of good people in this world. As a jw i was lead to believe they were all bad. not so. Many people are kind. but do people know each other ? My neighbors do not. I just know most by sight, some i have never even seen. Are there social classes and cliches in is world? For sure. Are there in jw? yes, but i can remember a time when it was not so bad. growing up, our cong. did mingle fairly freely among social classes. My neighobors don't invite each other over just b/c they live on the sme block. A lot of jw used to do that. If u were in the same cong-they used to read out ot each other.

i guess what i am trying to say-i don't find "worldy people" kinder or nicer than jw's. Many will judge u and hate u, and it is hard to find true friends anywhere. My church of christ neighbors are as unfriendly as any jw i ever saw. They do judge and they do shun. I used to think only jw did that-but no- people judge and shun-they just don't announce it formally.

i'm relatively new here and this site has helped me a lot.

however, i think i'm going to need more help... i was dfed back in july just after my 18th birthday; i just couldn't take it any more.

things have been very hard for me to say the least.

I have only a couple of things to add. A lot of what will happen will depend on your GF and how tough she is.B/C she is going to get a lot of advice form her parents. some will tell her to stay home and they'll help her raise the baby and levae u totally out of it-except for the child support of course.they may begrudge u any involvenmet except fininacal. I know a couple right know who are doing the exact thing. They sent their daughter to college and they are raisng the baby. they are GOOD JW PARENTS.The other thing that could happen-her parents will hate her and throw her out and all that and she'll have to depend on u for support. Frankly, at your and her age-i would hope for the first thing. the court will make u pay child support and that should give u sme rights to see your child. but marriage at this age-not a good deal. I hope she has good parents that will help u guys, cause u should have some help.

* the "f" word spelled out on the information board in the back of the hall.

the person used the tacks used for posting letters and talks and spelled out the expletive.

the brother who counseled 2 young sis from the platform, during a talk, for talking(one of which was me)

a relative of mine who fell out of his chair during a talk(he was sound asleep)

a bro was making snide remarks about me to a few people in KH prior to meeting, i shot back with a few of my own and it got kind of loud and he got upset and they had to take him out of hall to calm down

a bro came up to me and said"I don't know why u bother coming to the hall-no one wants anything to do with you".

i was going to the toliet during a meeting while the hall was in construction. The celing in the ladies was still partly open and when i pulled down my undewear to sit down, i looked up and there was a bro watching me closely. He fled when he saw i noticed.

I was getting out of my car at the KH. A passing truck honked and waved and whistled.. A bro observed and gave me damning looks and said"well i never"

Once we had a cong party at someones ranch. While all the kids were out playing,(of which i was a teenager) the older crowd was inside getting totally stoned. and pairing off with others mates too btw.

i once gave a talk totally stoned and no one noticed.

bro with a car group of teenagers went in service. he had blasitng form the stero"Bottle of wine " a drinking song from some time ago-it was so loud u could hear it everywhere.we all laughed are arses off.

a bro said from the stage 'if anyone thinks they can win the lotto and keep it secret-we will find u and u will have to give the money back"

a few years back all the elder body were going to Billy Bob's every saturday night. (country westren hall, rowdy)

once I was at a door in FS, , and commented on how ugly it was,(the actual door) the householder heard me form behind the door and was MAD.I could have crawled into a hole.

I once was in service and found someone washing their car, i said" I wish i were home washing my car"

We had a bro in a cong i went to who used his service time to go around the town and bad mouth the elders. no kiddding -he was very personalbale and people really listened to him.

once got into a fight (verbal) with a sis at a bible stude over capitol punishment. I said the bible advocated it-she disagreed. It got really loud.The student was totally confused.

Once i was watching tv and a ham radio operator or whatever manged to intercept a phone call and it was broadcast on tv. They gave a # so i called these people and told them i had just heard there personal phone call on tv. I told an elder and he thought t was a communist plot or the demons.BTW, this was years before cell phones , i think CB's were out then.

lol we actually had a family named pian(but spelled different)

and once someone actually called on "sis pain in the rear" broke up the whole hall, woke up sleeping people, and brought tears to our eyes.

schnitt the talk pesonalilty was talking about the catholic church how horrible it was for them to fille bankruptcy to avoid paying the victims of child molestation.. well you know i just had to call up the show on my cell phone.

I cried for the past

i cried for a long time today, very deeply, sobbing heavily for those i have lost in my life.

mostly due to watchtower rules.. i am developing a new set of bear friends and look forward to good times with them.. the suicidal thoughts have subsided.. i have never really tried to make a concrete set of friends here.

i think its time to do so.

Yes pope, i totally understand your line of resonaing. I always used to worry about on armageddon day what i would do if my unbelieving children came running to me for protection. it is a horrible thought of all people being destroyed. but according to the bible god has done this before-S&G, the Flood. Not to say anything of all the wars the jews fought and God backed them up in.

laudanum was an opiate that had been imported from overseas.

I just wanted to say that morphine and other pain killers have a place. I myself have severe chronic pain r/t severe back problems. I have had surgery, physical therapy and all sorts of things. But the pain remains. When used for appropariate things, most people do not become addicted to pain meds. They do not take them to get high. They take them to relieve pain and be able to function . it is so sad to see people come in to detox after being told they have an addiction. Many of these people live with serious pain , and it is cruel to deny them relief. These people need appropaite pain mangement, not detox.Sad to say, a lot of professionals in psychiatric area consider anyone who takes pain meds(unless they have terminal cancer) an addict. This is just not true.I will get off my soap box now.

Questions about meds and therapy ( general)

i am rather knew here and not very "talkative"...... i do have some questions that i hope to get some answers for....... #1. do doctors perscribe 3 medications at on time if they suspect that you are bipolar or do they begin with one and add on????.

#2. does depakote cause weight gain ( or has it for those who have taken it )?.

#3. what type of therapy ( therapist) is recommened for ptsd???.

That varies quite a lot. Some docs prefer to start with one med and then add on if one is not effective. Sometimes they will prescribe a mood stablizer (like depakote) and an anti depressnt at the same time. All docs have a way they like to approach things and No it is not unusual to be prescribed 3 meds at one time. If u are concerend, seek a second opinion.

yes depakote frequently causes weight gain, as does a lot of the psychiatric meds.Depakote is actually an anti-convulsant but it is used very frequently for bipolar illness . there is a new one out-called topamax. it does not cause weight gain. U might ask your doc if he prescribes it. Note-i am not advocating this drug, only telling u it does not cause weight gain.

Finding the right meds for any psychiatric illness can be tricky. It is often trial and error. A big problem with bipolar is often people will take the meds for a while and then quit. They usually get worse rapidly. so whatever, follow your docs suggestions. as i said if you are worried about your meds-obtain a second opinion. Ptsd is very difficult. So sorry to hear u must deal with this. I would recommednd u ask your doc for the name of a therapist who works with this problem.

u are not alone, ask your doc about local supoort groups. Do a search on the internet about support groups geared toward this. Your therapist should be able to help u find a group.

but if i was not a cowboy fan, i must admit i would rather watch a more completive game, a game that would have play off implications.. how do you feel about it?
