my friend was counseled for having a bad attitude because he wore white socks w/ his suit.
i was getting out of my car one day at teh KH and a trucker honked and waved. i waved back. An uptight elder with a bad marriage saw it, said i encourged it. several years later, his uptight wife died , and he married someone 30 years younger than him.self

do any of you remember when they used to call the brothers and sisters by their first name from the platform?
the organization was much smaller then and much more intimate than it is today and since we were all "friends" we called each other by our first names even from the platform.. well all that changed one day.
the way i heard it was that some sister whose husband was not in the truth persuaded him to attend the meeting with her one day.
ditto with what mulan said, always bro or sis,
i remember, one of the songs i was told was a bad song, was bridge over troubled water.
apparently, it's about drug use.
what are some of the "worldly" songs you were advised to quit listening to that seemed harmless?edited by - nosferatu on 16 january 2003 13:39:50.
I've always been a janis joplin fan, and used to go aorund singing "mercedes benz". I was informed that dishonored God, (due to the "oh Lord stuff)
First time i heard "Bat out of of hell" by Meat loaf, it frightned me. Later, i saw the words and really listened to it and realized it was a teenage love drama song like 'Tell laura i love her". I fell in love with Meat loaf and finally got to meet the man a few years ago. What a voice.what a guy
My parents would not let me listen to the beatles or stones. I made up for lost time by leaving home early. Can u image being a teeager in late 60's early 70's and not listening to the stones?
"we are americans' u would think we share the same culture-but not so. I have worked too long in people realted job to know that is not true. And i will tell u , i have seen and been treated with gross desrepect due to my culture. If u think u have it made being white in america, not so.
What we see on tv is the average white, or black middle america. Very little else is seen. Growing up. i wondered why my envirmoment was not like the tv sit coms. The reason was i was poor and white. Not until the late 60's i think, did tv ever address different cultures in america.
Certainly,"Friends", "Seinfield" have nothing in comon with "Roseanne"(I know my tv anology is dated, but u get the idea).
we are all americans (thse of us in usa) but we are very different. Many cultures and sub sultures
a few years ago we were invited to a small gather at a very nice home with a pool. One of the elders there, a business man, made a rude comment to my husband "so, i run xxx business, and u are a garbage .collecter" I inserted garbage collector b/c if i said what he really said, my husband could be identifed. The point was, he was soooo far above us. he could not find a point of common interest.. we were beneath him(well i wasn't, he leered at me all night)he was too good for us. now that is the world i know.

is race really a valid concept or is it more of an arbitrary distinction based more on skin tone and/or culture?
marcos (open to learning)
The latest scientific word on the race questionn is that genetically there is absolutely no difference between the races. This is really fresh news -- within the last few weeks -- and if you do a google search on the topic, you are sure to find something
. yes i saw that news flash too, i htink it really supports the bible account of us all descending from one human pair. They did mention, i remember, that disease suspectibility was the only difference noted.
yes it is all interesting about culture. One i find that is often degraded and people are often quite prejudiced toward is poor whites. Being one myself, I'll try and explain. We all laugh at "Poor white trash" jokes, or redneck jokes. When i was growing up , being poor white was next to being black-in the south. Whites are often balmed for many probles here in the usa. In turn, whites themselfs will turn around and blame Poor whites for the problems.check out this link. It is very educational. I guess there are scapegaots in all cultures.

according to the bible account, we all come from one human pair. And later, from one human family, Noahs.
I do note that , as a matter of heath, i have read that there are differences in races as to suseptibility to diseases.
this is my first time posting and i am just curious if anyone in west tn is on this forum.
i figure the best way to begin the healing is to find out if there is someone in my former circuit who has escaped also.
thank u valis. I was worried i had a multiple personality and was posting under anothee name without knowing it. LOL
Elsewhere, could we all be posting form the same computer, me chris, and the other person valis mentioned?
