Please Help the Asian Earthquake Victims!

as you know the earthquake has killed an estimated 10,000 people today in asia.

there are over 1,000,000 people now homeless as a result.. if you can help by donating to charitable organisations such as the red cross and oxfam, please do.

see if you can donate time to man helplines or help in any other practical way.

I wen to the first website but it was just general info.

On the other hand, i still dont trust org tha collect moeny.

what's more there are deep pocktets and gov with a lot of $$$, including the usa, they hava a political and moral responsability.

BUT I dont mind going there RIGHT NOW and spend any amount of time helping

every time i try to search for helping org recruting volunteers i find nothing, in fact i have registered with some and never get back a real practical response, but just general info on emails, mailed automatically by machines.

My above inclination is above the fact that MOST of us can help many people in real need LOCALLY.

) that celebrating the birth of jesus had actually become of greater interest to people than the ransom provided by his death; that the revelry of the holiday and the spirit in which many gifts were given did not honor god; that the magi whose gift - given was being imitated were actually demon - inspired astrologers; that parents set an example for their children in lying by what they told them about santa claus; that "st. nicholas" ( santa claus ) was admittedly ( who admitted this ) another name for the devil himself; and that such festivals were, as acknowledged by cardinal newman in his essay on the development of christian doctrine, "the very instruments and appendages of demon - worship' the church had adopted ---------- when made aware of these things ( who made them aware ) jehovah's witnesses promptly and permanently stopped having any part in christmas celebrations.. so, let me get this straight, from 1919 ( when they were supposedly selected by jesus as the faithful and discreet slave,) they continued this demonic practice of celebrating christmas until a member of christendom, cardinal newman and not jesus, showed them , made them aware, some seven years after jesus saw fit to select them as his slave, that all this time they were celebrating a demonic holiday.. who is lying to whom?

BUT they replaced a generally accepted set of doctrines with another set of doctrines, imo the major "replacing" ended around 1935.

I dont see major changes in jw doctrines from 1935 until now, except for many rules and the "generation", but they are not doctrines so to speak.

the jw were very open about cristmas, going against the "system" require some strenght and that in itself attracted many to the jw org.

My Deleted Elder Friend Stopped By.......

with his wife to say that it's been 3 months since my daughter's wedding and in october he got deleted for going to it even though the presiding overseer told him it was a "conscience matter.

".....the circuit overseer saw it differently and removed my friend as an elder amd my mom as a regular pioneer because of a letter sent only to circuit overseers in 1999!!!!

If your friend was an elder for 45 years he should have known better, tell him to forget about an appeal to the GB and "wait on J".

If you really like the guy, not only "hope" but do the photocopying i suggested.

How do JWs from other countries view the USA based Watchtower?

i often wondered how those of other natonalities who eventually become jws view taking orders from a usa based religion.

did it bother you that foreigners were making rules that you had to live by?

did the people that you met at the doors every bring up the fact that this was a religion run by foreigners?

Yes, some people did bring this issue up at the door. But it was easy to explain away.

Persons with strong political inclination towards the left bring that issue. In most countries the main religions have been imported anyway.

wonder if the fact that the WT is USA based will eventually work against further growth in other contries.

wt being based in usa is not a major factor, people from many countries want to go to usa, and a xxx is born every minute.

Do not know what you are reading, but it must only be WTS literture.

When i said "Anything I ever read or heard did not refute jw doctrines." Take into consideration the context, AT THAT TIME (long ago) I did not read or hear anyone to properly "refute jw doctrines"

What about Christmas do you consider pagan? Just give one or two thing we can chew on

Also, JWs are, by far, not the only ones to "go against the system". All you have to do is read a history book to figure that out.

At least in modern times i dont know of any organized group in the western world that has been so consistant, openly going "against the system" regarding CRISTMAS, which is the example in this case, there other examples i did not mention.

I am also curious as to what else you find positive about the JWs?

In my case i was raised jw, from very early age but still appreciate a lot of things learned..

BUT none of that was unique to the WTS

BUT as far as i know they worked hard to make it known to everyone.

. It does in no way compensate for 1] a wasted life, 2] uncountable hours of wasted time in field service and meetings 3] The disappointment of realising that it is 'Just not true' 4] A life that might have been, if I had not based everything around 'Spiritual goals' which gave a totally cockeyed view of life and and its values

If "compesate" or not will depend on each individual. Being practical anyone can turn a lemon into a lemonade.

The point being: in every group, you may find some positives. Finding positives, however, doesn't mean that the balance is positive.

But the balance could be positive, each case is different

Must exjw think only of the negative things they experienced or leaned AND positive things they missed,

BUT they forget the positive things they learned and experienced AND negative things they avoided by being jw.

It teached me not to accept anything at face value and to question just about anything.

I concluded at early age that anybody and everybody could be wrong. I have benefit all along from such early conclusion, thanks to the jw..

But for some reason I did not question most jw teachings... I did questions some teaching and rules long ago..

I think it was due to lack of references. The "messengers" that passed around some weak messages against jw lacked credibility, in the first place they beleived in cristmas, a celebration that have been proven to be "pagan". Anything I ever read or heard did not refute jw doctrines.

There many other things i consider positive about jw, dont you?.

On the other hand, as Ray Franz says in his books we are not free of blame for accepting unfounded jw teachings, the most we can say is repeat that we have been "victims of victims", but the victim is not always without responsability... but if feels better when the victim can totally blame someone else.

WHAT!!!

after more than 45 years as being an elder, Congregation Servant, PO, etc. He is currently appealing it to the Society but methinks it doesn't look too good for him.

isn't he the elder your mother didnot see at the wedding?

anyway the elders found the excuse that most likely they were looking for.
