The Mrs gets nightmares of lunchtime at the Circuit assemblies...surrounded by nasty people she never liked. Once in a while I dream of Donut shops....

does anyone dream they are on the ministry?
by pajaha inor maybe that should be "nightmare" - not dream.. it happens less and less, but still does now and again after 10 years.
it's always associated with a great feeling of dread and going from door to door knowing you do not believe what you are saying (i should point out that, while i was in it, i pretty much did believe it).. i guess it shows how big a part of our lives it once was - a bit like you often dream of being in school or of long-departed relatives..

Catching up with DF couple in supermarket frustrating.
by jemba inhubby and i (faders) were in the supermarket today.
we had just avoided and completely ignored an elder and his wife when we saw a newly married couple who were both recently disfellowshipped, of course being the rebels we are we made a bee line for them.
the df man was until recently a workmate of my hubby so they quickly got into an animated discussion and i met the new wife who seemed nice but let me know they were getting reinstated asap.

it's nice to finally be able to say hello to you all, having been a long time reader of the forum.. i put off signing up as i didn't feel i had much to contribute, but if i'm honest, seeing atlantis' post about confidential information pushed me into it.. i hope i can get round to writing my story - i always enjoy reading others and it never ceases to amaze me how many have had similar experiences.. so there goes my first post!.

This really works to shut up the elders and other do gooders prying questions
by harleybear infor what ever reason i have been contacted by a number of jw's as to why i do not attend the meetings etc.
in the past i have blown it off by saying i am super busy, tired, sick etc.
i had the opportunity just last week when i ran into an elder and his wife at the grocery store to respond to their comment.

What was it about Bethel that woke you up?
by cognisonance inone the how many exbethelites thread it was mentioned that some think one either leaves down the path towards apostasy or as a 100% true believer.
i'm curious what experiences did you face at bethel that woke you up (or started to at least)?.

No truer words were ever spoken.
My experience was a little different in some respects than some posters. While I was At Bethel some resentfully said "how does a newboy get privileges?" I had been in the "worldly" workforce for five years, been to a few years of "trade school" so I got accepted to Bethel almost instantly for my job skills when my application was submitted.
I had been given a "heads up" about the "darkside" by a family member who had served on and off at Bethel in the 40s and 50s. Even so I was shocked...and still am.
"Privileges" at Bethel consisted of the worst treatment I have EVER recieved in the work place my entire life. There was nothing Christian about Bethel. What was funny...was not only was the place not "christian" it was illogical in the way they do particular jobs. No "worldly" business could make a penny doing things the way they did in my department. Many assignments were based on your "JW status" pre-bethel. Top jobs were held by Bethel Elders and former Special Pioneers with NO education or formal job training...I had been a lowly PIONEER and MS, so my training went to waste as I was assigned mind numbing unskilled tasks for LONG days and entire weekends ( I missed meetings and field service) for my entire stay.
When I turned in my 30 day notice - Suddenly I was called into multiple meetings to discourage me from leaving "and going to where the greed was greater" and "turning my back on my brothers" because of my training. - When I replied "I never used any of my training", they said -well, we were teaching you submission...thats the Bethel way!!! ??? WTF ??
Never been so glad to leave a job.
To this day when I recount some of the things I overheard or saw (GB doing) to JWs I have been accused of lying....such is the power of cults.
I learned to shut up about what I experienced at Bethel and change the subject around family and JWs.

by JT inyes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.
i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.
as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?

Pissed by the amount of fraud and LIES in the assembly financial reports. One way to get the Skunk Eye from the C.O. is to even ASK about hall expenses.
"Why is it 3xs more expensive to use our building than RENT a bigger facility closer to home? "

How many visitors does JWN get in a day, on average?
