May have been a local elder trying to get the kid to wait. Some Elders childern were being forced to be little trained Parrots and didn't know what they were getting into. If they couldn't reason on WHY they wanted to commit to WTBTS I flunked some of them on the questions when i was an elder. I just couldn't go along with the entire child baptisim thing. I know, I know...i am an ass

New Baptism Requirement?
by The Searcher ini would appreciate answers on this from elders or former elders .. speaking to a young unbaptized witness, he said that he'd like to get baptized asap, but he would have to achieve a return visit or two on his report before that could happen.. when i asked him what made him think that, he said that that was what the elders had told his sister to do, before she could get baptized.
is this standard practice by elders?.
haven't they read acts 2:38 to find out what qualifies a person for baptism?

Requalifying as an Elder
by alfredjones100 ini'd like to throw something out to the exelders.. over the years since i stepped down as an elder, my dislike for the society and its ways has clearly grown.. but my love for the bible and my family and friends in the congregation has not got less.. i feel sorry that they are not mature enough to grasp the concept that you dont need the society to make god happy.. so i have been thinking ( and its just a crazy thought at the moment ) to requalify as an elder and to begin to really teach the truth.. to really challenge their thinking and take my talks to the limit without getting busted as a heretic.. whats youre thought?.

Why not go all the way??? Pioneer, go the MTS School, become a Para Legal, Bethel, start partaking, and get on the Governing Body?
Some FBI agents did it in the past...if they can..you can!
Be sure to post all the secret communications here...OK?

Mental health crisis in America-
by moshe ini found this mother's letter to be an eye opener--.
written by liza long, republished from the blue review.
friday's horrific national tragedy -- the murder of 20 children and six adults at sandy hook elementary school in newtown, connecticut -- has ignited a new discussion on violence in america.

Moshe,
I knew a couple of families with violent mentally ill teens. It destroyed the family emotionally and financially.
At one time we had the mentally ill commited to hospitals. Some of these places were snake-pits, and some people were commited wrongfully. During the late 60s the doors were opened wide because many patients "rights" were violated. Many of these patients decided NOT to take prescription meds and ended up on the streets. The US went from one extreme to the next.
I have talked to some mental health and homeless advocates about this and they believe the vast majority of "homeless" are mentally ill, and self medicating with illegal drugs. If just 2% of the population is born with debilitating mental illness...THAT is a huge number of people in any major city.
Perhaps in times past the mentally ill simply become "the cranky reclusive pig farmer" or a "reclusive Mountain Man" but in todays society they stand out as unemployable and on the street.
I think as onerous as it may be, universal healthcare or an increased public "safety net" is needed not only for the benefit of the mentally ill but for the safety of the general public.

Why waste your time?
Spend the time with a hobby, fishing, or taking a course at a local college. At least you will have something tangible to show for your effort.

I SPILLED SOME OF THE BEANS WITH MY DAD.....
by DATA-DOG inso this weekend i decided to tell my dad about my being re-adjusted by the elders.
i gave him a cliff notes version of my meetings.
i let him know that i was being disciplined for questioning certain procedures and being accused of bad-mouthing the elder body and that the term apostasy was mentioned.

Wouldn`t it have made more sense for Jesus to excell in chemistry ,physics ,Astronomy ? or any of the other sciences ? instead of being just a craftsmen ?
by smiddy inlets face it, if jesus had revealed to mankind some of the mysteries of the universe 2000 years ago , before modern science was able to catch up with it , then surely it would have been a bloody good indication he was indeed the son of god .
i mean to say, it was through him that all things came into existence wasn`t it ?
then physics , chemistry ,astronomy , would be a breeze to him .information of this sort would surely have exalted his name above any other in this day had he been able to reveal such knowedge ,we all would have been beleivers .. the fact that god never inspired him to do so , and he never thought to do so ......?

I was reading about the translation of "Carpenter" seemed it should have been translated "builder" or "general contracter".
Point is he NEVER BUILT ANYTHING or told his apostles BUILD ANYTHING. He easily could have had a "barn raising", at least built a chair.
Quite the opposite of the modern day Watchtower and churches.

What was it about Bethel that woke you up?
by cognisonance inone the how many exbethelites thread it was mentioned that some think one either leaves down the path towards apostasy or as a 100% true believer.
i'm curious what experiences did you face at bethel that woke you up (or started to at least)?.

I had one roomate who actually ENJOYED Bethel. However he was a newly converted Vietnam Vet who enjoyed the military and had no job skills. Told me he liked the structure and least no one shot or lobbed mortars at him...and he got a bit of an rush attending a Spanish Harlem Congregation (high crime area). Odd.
I THINK he was the only guy I ever met who loved Bethel.

New Rooming Arrangement for some district conventions in the UK - what are they up to?
by 88JM inso i missed this letter below being read out last week - i got a look at it from the notice board this week.. from what i heard, this announcement was not received entirely positively as such, but there were apparently one or two for who this is a bit annoying.. staying at hotels for the district convention is nothing new here - many are used to staying at the same hotel/b&b/campsite every year, and get quite friendly with the owners.
but this year, it looks like not only do we have a new location for our district assembly (glasgow - the s.e.c.c.?
) but we are being told what hotel to stay at, supposedly to make things cheaper.. what i can't understand is, if this is really for the benefit of people, why didn't they do this years ago?

The society pockets the travel agent's commission 10% in many cases. Been doing it in the states for years.
Money money money.....money money......$$$$$$$$
