JW over-rode our Choice of Funeral music
by snugglebunny ina few years on and the funeral of my jw momma still galls me.
she left instructions for which kingdom songs to be sung and we gladly abided by her wishes.
the funeral was held in a public crematorium, not a kingdom hall.

"That Makes Your Organisation, In Many Respects, A Captive Organisation"
by pale.emperor ina segment from the royal commission in australia where gb member geoffrey jackson is grilled by a, very fantastic, lawyer.
this should be watched by all people contemplating getting baptized as jw's.
once you're in, you cant leave and keep your family.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpir8vjsdre.

JW's opinions on bunker video
by neat blue dog inthe so called bunker video isn't just getting attention here but among jws as well.
i've heard a fair share of cracks, some half joking half serious about the prospect of the video playing out in real life .
but something else i've heard is that the video was meant to be figurative, an illustration representing the 'interior rooms' prophecy..

The video had me scratching my head.
Why are the "police" in riot gear while making entry into homes? Are the JWs rioting?
In the end, the JWs are captured. So much for hiding in the "secret places". Millions now living will not be.

Something's Gotta Give
by pale.emperor ini've been 100% alone since my df last month.
i'm dead to my family now, unless i return to their cult - so i recently made contact with 3 former jw's that were in my cong when i was in my youth.
to my surprise, they all had exactly the same doubts and reasoning i had and said even though they've been out 6-7 years they "still feel tied to it in some way" and "feel guilty celebrating xmas or birthdays".

The most miserable portion of my life was after the total fade, but before I stopped trying to keep the practices of JWs.
Be all the way in or all the way out. There is no grey or middle ground when it comes to Jehovah's Witnesses.
As soon as I got on with my life things were so much better. The best, actually.
I got on with my career and advanced quickly. I made great new friends whose friendship is truly unconditional. Life became enjoyable.
I'm happier now knowing that this life is all there is and that one day I will die than at any point in my life where I thought I was going to live forever in a paradise earth.

Political Correctness
by snugglebunny ini think i'm just ornery when it comes to equality.
ever since i can remember, i've always believed that all people were created equal.
the colour of a person's skin is irrelevent to me.

Division and narrative control. That's what political correctness is about. There is a war for the minds and hearts of people in an attempt to force change through guilt.
I cannot speak for the rest of the world, but it seems something that exists mostly in the United States. I am sure it is found in other first world nations.
One of my favorite examples of how ridiculous it is was during an interview on ESPN with an NHL player who played for the Calgary Flames. He was asked by the ESPN commentators what it was like to be one of the few African-American players in the NHL. The player responded - "I don't know. I'm not African or American. I am Canadian."
The hyphenated world is divisive.
Another example in the United States is replacing "Illegal Alien" with "Undocumented Immigrant". The latter term is used by those who feel it is less offensive. That's like calling a murder a "non-consensual assisted suicide" or a theft a "non-consensual co-ownership of property" or trespassing as "non-consensual co-habitation of property".
Political Correctness is similar in Orwellian double-talk.

There are three types of lies -
1) Lies
2) Damn Lies
3) Statistics
Numbers means nothing if not provided in full context.
The word "unarmed" is misleading.
As a police officer of over a decade I have come close to shooting an unarmed person. In my story, the suspect had a felony warrant for aggravated assault. We Identified ourselves as police and the suspect ran. We chased him into his ex-wife's house and into a small room just inside the entry way.
Once inside he kicked my partner, threw a loose interior door at him and then grabbed my partner's gun. Fortunately for the suspect, I subdued him before he could gain control over the weapon. The suspect went to jail and eventually pleaded guilty to all charges. Everyone else went home safe.
Unarmed does not mean incapable of causing serious bodily injury or death. It just means a person is not in immediate possession of a device which is specifically designed to cause injury or death.
Can you pick up an object and bash a person's head in causing death?
Can you kick a person in the head so hard it causes serious bodily injury or death?
Can you choke someone to the point of causing serious bodily injury or death?
Can you ram a person's head into the pavement until you cause serious bodily injury or death?
etc.
What I tire of is a society that wants immediate action and results. Everyone gets due process, but police officers. A grainy cell phone video showing only a part of an incident played non-stop on social media and big 24/7 cable news networks is all that is needed to convict a police officer. Everyone else is givev the right to a full investigations, due process in a court of law, and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Life On Mars?
by metatron inhttp://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/nasa-finds-evidence-of-life-on-mars-9929510.html.
perhaps life in mars would be more accurate.
also, recent study of martian meteorites have yielded organic material.. .

Back in 2006/2007 I read a book dealing with possible life on Mars. Not little green men, but life none the less. This was one contributing factor that lead me down the path of finally getting out of the Watchtower cult.
At this point data is showing signs of water and methane on Mars. Imagine if fossils of advanced lifeforms (i.e. animals) were found on Mars. I wonder how the Watchtower would try to spin an explaination around that.

Stop BREATHING you SINNER!
by stuckinarut2 in(this may offend some sincere 'christians'.
can you, as a human, stop yourself from breathing?.
i have always thought that one of the basic teachings of 'christianity' is the concept that we are "mere sinners"...riddled with guilt and not worthy of god or life...undeserved kindness has been shown to us etc.... but, we have no control over that, just as we have no control over breathing air!.

This is the underlining theme of Christianity that bothers me the most. The idea that we as a race of beings are unworthy of life due to the actions of 2 people. That is why I like the words of a commentator who practices the old ways:
"I pity the Christian. He begs his god in pray. I honor my god with deeds".

After Years of Silence My Father Reaches Out to Me
by truth_b_known inbrief history:.

Brief history:
I was a born in. My parents were uber-dubs, but never worshipped the organization. It was always about Jehovah, Jesus, and the brothers. In other words; my parents are real christians. My father was an elder for years until we moved and he was persecuted for professing to be of the annointed.
I faded in my thirties and moved to another state. Two years after I invited my parents out to visit my family and I. It ended in a train wreck because my father tried guilting with the scriptures to get us to go back. After my parents left I believe I spoke to my father twice on the phone. Both times it was Memorial week and his tone was that of a Witness trying to encourage an inactive Witness to go back. That was 2010. We never spoke again...until recently.
My father has called me twice in the past two months. Each time he never spoke once about Witnesses, the Bible, religion, or anything related. He simply wanted to talk. He wanted to know how my family was doing. He asked me to e-mail photos of my kids.
I was floored. I believe in his old age he is realizing that family is more important that a publishing company in New York. I'm sure the recent changes in the religion have had some effect on him. How could they not? Since day one in the religion my father professed to be of the annointed, making him part of the Faithful and Discreet Slave Class and now he's just rank and file. Don't misunderstand me; he never boasted of this or expected special treatment. In fact, he was always very humble about of the subject. I didn't even know until a friend's mother told me when I was 12. That was because A) He never told me and B) he always partook very discreetly so as not to make a scene.
I don't see my father just leaving like I have because he has spent the past 4 decades in. However, I get the impression that he is no longer going to let his choice of religion get in the way of having a relationship with his kids.

A day in the life of a Cop...my story. The truth.
by Witness 007 ini work for a mental health unit with 2 police officers we deal with people who have drug and mental health issues.
at times over the last 10 years we have "taken down" some large drug affected men, mainly "ice" these days which is epidemic here, and let me tell you even with three of us it is a huge struggle.
sometimes back up is needed or mace spray which is aweful stuff!

I'm a police officer. I just wanted to point out that "shoot to wound" does not exist. Never has. Never will be. It cannot exist.
A firearm is deadly force. To discharge a firearm at a person is deadly force. To intentionally shoot someone is to legally state you intend for that person to die regardless of where you are aiming. To shoot at someone and completely miss is still deadly force.
The number one cause of death as a result of being shot is bleeding out. You can bleed out from a leg wound, arm wound, shoulder wound, etc.
