I remember it very well. There was even newspaper articles in which Witnesses who quit over it were quoted. Yes - as a born in who grew up in the 80's and graduated high school in the 90's we were taught to believe that this "system of things" would pass away in the time span of a generation (70 or 80 years) from 1914. The new "overlapping generations" teaching is a direct result of the fact that Armageddon had not come by 1994.

"Stick with what we have authorized. You'll be safe."
Safe from what? How is information a danger to an individual? Perhaps he meant safe from being disfellowshipped.

Can the GB be directed by Holy Spirit and at the same time be not inspired ?
by Chook inyes god directs our writings but they're not inspired, so gods directions are staggered and overlapping , so the genuine innocent believing jw has a wonderful life of overlapping bullshit.
so next time you meet a jw priest ask them what is the difference between being directed and inspired, then i promise you will hear first hand an example of overlapping bull..

In short - no.
The other reality is that either the Holy Spirit is with your or it isn't. You can tell if it is because you are displaying the fruitages of the Spirit.
Even when I was in, I would laugh when I would here people talking about working on one of the 9 fruitages of the Spirit. That's like a real tree saying to itself: "I think I will grow oranges this week."
Either you have all 9 or you have none.

Comparing 1987 to 2017 --- cart witnessing
by pleaseresearch intake a ride with me back to 1987. picture yourself in your town, or city centre.
remember the clothes people wore, the hairstyles etc.... now imagine yourself doing your ministry out on the street, engaging with people, speaking with them, striking up conversations.
now, how would you feel, and what would you say, if you noticed two people appear nearby with a cart.

There would be a Watchtower article highlighting this event. The purpose of this article would be to show how pathetic Christendom is. It would also bring out the point that obviously they were not working with the Holy Spirit.

Fallacies in the article on war at Awake! No. 5 2017
by Master_Bob inwhy did ancient israel go to war?.
what some people say.
the israelites worshipped a bloodthirsty “tribal war god.”.

The history of the re-imaged Caananites...er...Israelites is a hard pill to swallow. When YHWH turns out to actually be part of the Baal pantheon of gods (El) it is like pulling the rug out from under the feet of both Judaism and Christianity.

Last Memorial Experiences
by NoviceLocs14 ini'll share mine first.... i had never missed a memorial for at least a quarter of a century of my life.
i was kind of raised to believe that missing the memorial was a sin in itself.. by 2013 memorial season, i was missing most of my meetings (even though i was still technically part of my foreign language congregation), and i had just come off the pioneer list.
i still made plans to attend the memorial (god forbid if i missed that lol).. i knew that typically our memorials were around 9 pm, since we usually got last priority (being a foreign language hall and all).

My last Memorial attended was about 7 years ago. My father called me and encouraged me to go. He made it sound like a new outline was to be used and that it was of great importance to hear. So I decided to go.
This was the first Memorial using the new songbook and songs, which I had no idea even took place. I felt embarrassed. The song was one from the last songbook, but it was different. As in, not as good as the last rendition, different.
Next what I noticed was the outline was the exact same one I had for my entire life. That was it. I knew I was done.
The next day I got the courage to visit this website. My eyes were opened. I learned the truth about the Truth.

2017 Sunday RC Final Talk & Comments About 1975
by baldeagle inmany of us here have commented on the deceitful friday afternoon video shown at the 2017 rc that discussed 1975.. the video attempted to shift the blame onto congregation members for the fiasco saying, "some were looking to a certain date as signifying the end of this old system of things.".
this same video mentions how, “a few even went so far as selling their homes and quitting their jobs.”.
we all know that the wt leadership created this teaching and endorsed it right up to its abject failure.. now below is the concluding talk given on sunday at the rc.

Victim blaming at its finest.
It's your fault you sold you house and quit your job to pioneer. We never told you to do that. If the elders and circuit overseers browbeat you if you didn't sell your house and pioneer, that's on those imperfect men.

What woke you up?
by MrRoboto infor me, i think it was just the right time as i was starting to wake up on other fronts as well (anyone who had went through these will know what i mean).
but it started when i was looking for what info goes on a publisher card, which led to me reading one person's story (ex bethelite) which was pretty crazy to an all-in jw but who trusts those apostates...?.
then i started watching videos on cults, as if my subconscious was trying to tell my concord mind something... when i saw a particular one about a young man in lds getting ready to start their 2 year preaching campaign, including a school, social activities etc, i realized that i couldn't tell the difference between the folks of this mormon cult and the jws (save for some religious differences) .

I've struggled with putting my finger on what woke me because my situation was kind of backwards.
I was a born in who later in life decided that I didn't want anything to do with Witnesses based on their treatment of my family. It was a few years after that when I no longer believed in the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses.
I learned from my father, who professes to be of the annointed, that there are circuit and district overseers who make it their life's mission to disfellowship those who profess to be of the annointed. He was one that was targetted, but we moved to another state before it happened.
About a year later I learned from my father that when he moved the family out of state our future presiding overseer went around the congregation telling families not to associate with us when we moved in. I was in that congregation from age 13 to 35. Sure we had friends in the congregation, but there were some things that struck me odd that all made sense when my father told me that. My best friend married my sister. When he proposed to my sister his parents flipped out! As for me, I could never find any local single sisters that would entertain the idea of dating me. All my girlfriends lived over 100 miles away. It all made sense when my father confided in me.
Science was a big help. I knew that the Biblical flood of Noah's Day was physically impossible. Why the dinosaurs were not on the Ark was always a good questions. My parents taught me that dinosaurs were created to make the Earth ready for everything else.
I finally decided to chase my dream and become a police officer. When in the police academy we covered deadly force the instructor covered Romans 13:1-7 which he said clergy call the "Police Officer Verse." When I read it with that in mind I had to ask myself how could anyone say it was wrong for a Christian to be a police officer if they are God's ministers and God gives them a sword to carry out his will?
In the end, it was this website that finally opened my eyes to what a crazy cult I spent most of my life in.

I believe the reversal on alternative service was the eye opener for me as well. I was a ministerial servant in my 20's at the time. I vividly remember the whispering about this at the Circuit Assembly.

Whether Jesus was a historical figure or not matters not
by venus inwhen i suffered some loss what jesus said came to my mind: “if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.” (mathew 5:40) principle behind this statement made flash to me: ‘here shirt is only a symbol of material things/comfort.
if you suffer a loss, have the mind-set that i have no problem even if i suffer some greater loss,’ and my worry immediately disappeared.
whether jesus was a historical figure or not matters not if what he (supposedly) said happens to be of great practical help..
