skimming earlier, i noticed the name satir.. i had occasion to work with a very special older woman who was an absolute delight.

she had trained with virginia satir, who is now long dead, and vs had invited her to be part of her peace group.

Maximus-I'm glad you had a happy Father's Day. I remember when Dad was still alive he got upset that we couldn't even celebrate Father's/Mother's Day. I was still steeped into JW belief's and trying to be loyal to the borg, I made sure that I didn't even call him on that day. Now I could kick myself. It would have meant so much to him. Whenever I think about what the borg has taken away from not just me, but so many others, I want to scream.

So, I wish you a belated Happy Father's Day in memory of my own dad.

P.S. Do you think he knows?

When do you move on?

i was talking to my brother last night on the phone who walked away from the borg in the mid 1980's.

i asked him if he ever checked out any ex-witness sites.

his reply was basically, no, since he's moved on past his time served in the borg.

I was talking to my brother last night on the phone who walked away from the borg in the mid 1980's. I asked him if he ever checked out any ex-witness sites. His reply was basically, NO, since he's moved on past his time served in the borg. He spent a couple of years at Bethel.

I told him that I felt like this place was an outlet for me since I'm technically still in and a great way to vent.

I was just curious about how long most of the posters here have had doubts about the org. I know from reading past posts that some left several years ago while some are still trying to get out without losing everything.

What is the average length of time someone spends here before they move on?

has anyone ever heard of or used the angle against the wt that a minor never actually made their own choice to join the cult?

( has not attended for 5 years since the age of 18) the reason i'm looking into it is i recently had a visit by a snake elder.

he came to my home at 7:10am as my friend (ha) to encourage me to return to the meetings.

I don't think there is anything they can do to your son if he was never baptized. If he had ever been announced as an "unbaptized publisher" then they might make an announcement that he is no longer considered an unbaptized publisher. In some Nazi type congregations they may announce him as a "bad associate" although I think that is rare.

I have a son in the same position. He is dating a non-witness girl but he was never baptized. He was at one time considered an unbaptized publisher but it has been years since he went in service so I think they just consider him a person of the world.

I'm sure that each congregation is different as to how they handle this kind of situation. Where I'm from they could give a rat's ass about my children.

i was wondering what some of you might make of this.

a friend of mine who is still somewhat active just told me about something interesting that happened in his congregation a week or two ago during the wt study.

a publisher raised his hand to comment and related an experience he had while doing magazine work in a parking lot (ugggghhhh!!!

i recently ordered another copy of "in search of christian freedom" as i got rid of my first one (long story) and since it had been a couple of years since i read it, i decided to get another one.. since i live in a fairly small town, i decided to give a fake name, in case someone worked at the book store that might be a jw.

it was saturday morning (a time when all good little jw's should be in field service) so i felt it safe to go pick up my book.

i walk into the store and headed for the counter but was stopped in my tracks by an elder and his family.

So true, I'm just hanging around mostly until my mom dies (she's almost 80) as it would kill her if she knew how I really felt. But as soon as she's gone, I'm coming out of the "apostate" closet.

I walk into the store and headed for the counter but was stopped in my tracks by an elder and his family. I chit-chatted with them for a while and hoped they would leave. They didn't so I walked around for a while, grabbed some coffee and waited. And waited. They wouldn't leave so I picked up a cook-book and headed to the counter to pay for it. They were in the back of the store so I thought it would be safe to go ahead and ask for my "Christian Freedom" book.

Everything was going good, I'm paying for my 2 books when who walks in but a sister from the other hall. I could have died. I left my money on the counter and went over and hugged her to try to keep her from seeing what I was purchasing.

Whew!!! I made it. Just made me a little paranoid, though.

Escaped with my life!

i wanted to give an update to all those who kindly offered suggestions on how to deal with my jw son's ultimatum' "go tell the elders, or i will".. these last few days have been an intense crash course in life for me.

having experienced my firstborn son, whom i gave birth to, wiped his behind, dried his tears, and helped to grow to adulthood with loving support, threaten to turn me over to the "authorities" (elders) for wrong thinking and wrong speech, has been a deeply disturbing experience.

learning the truth about the "truth" was shocking, but this is just a crying tragedy.. after he found a short email from a board friend, which inadvertantly got into our regular email box instead of my private one, i was given a week to go to the elders.

Truman, I feel for what you are going through. A couple of questions, please.

1) Do you think your son will ever change his mind about the organization?

2) Is he a MS or elder?

3) Does he go to the same congregation as you?

4) Did you take your screen-name from the Truman show. I think most of us feel like Truman, having every detail of our lives planned out for us, no way to escape.

I think I speak for most here on this post (you know the one's that I don't speak for) when I say, "we're here for you"
