well I didn't read the poster above me, because my eyes can't stay focused on the screen long, and I am sure what this doctor said is true.
When I was disfellowshipped at the end of 99 depression was rampant in the congregation. Many are in denial. Many say if you pray to Jehovah he will help you, but little do many of them realize that people who suffer from depression isn't always just depression brought on by themselves. Many suffer from Bi Polar, and others, seasonal depression such as cabin fever, then there is depression brought on due to ill health maybe their own health or that of one they love dearly. Then the is schizophrenia, this is a cruel mental illness and no one can help, it is in the brains chemistry and it can happen to anyone at anytime in a persons life.
Mental illness is as old as mankind's existence and even Christ cured those with mental illness.
One re bound doctor in Toronto's St Micheal's Hospital told me that the highest incidence of clinical mental illnesses are among Jehovah's Witnesses. She said they are expected to live a life so opposite that of everyone else that it affects their whole life, but they fail to see it and in most cases deny it. Then you have those who thrive on it getting attention from everyone, and saying oh I feel so depressed to day you know yada yada yada....
It came as no surprise to me. Trying to be something a man made organization wants and expects you to do that is totally opposite to the rest of the world would place a monumental strain on the body and brain and that of young children also. As they are expected to be completely different from the rest of their classmates. Not being able to enjoy the festivities of any holiday would hurt as child deeply as he or she would observe the gaiety of their peers. How utterly unfair it is to the child to subject them to this from of treatment and parents wonder why their children act out or up in meetings, rebel, or leave home as soon as they are of legal age. They hate the religion. Because the religion has forgotten how to teach as Christ taught and they have forgotten how to forgive as Christ taught. They have forgotten how to enjoy get to gethers in family and friends for feasts and sharing. They have forgotten what it means to be a Christian all to gether. Now if they were to read the scriptures with open mindedness and showed some decent compassion like Christ then perhaps a big percentage of the witnesses would less likely to suffer from depression. They are wound up so tight that at any moment they will explode.
one who knows
